University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

A stat I hope is still relevant after tonight...

Maine was last swept in a two game series at Alfond Arena by Massachusetts on March 3 (2-5 L) and March 4 (2-3 L) 2023. There have been 12 two-game series against the same opponent since then.

No Russell tonight. Maine needs to empty the bucket.

So what did Larry see that most of us didn't because he asked in the post game interview about him so it's serious enough that he's out. I expect a better effort tonight. We need to bring the physical play, get a lead, get the crowd in it and forecheck UConn into the dirt

He was out there for the power play at the end of the 2nd period. Then after Maine killed of the power plays he went out for the first action around 17 minute mark. Immediately on the face off skated to the bench for a change and sat near Culina and had Cullina helping him. Not really sure. On that power play he skated for a puck and got hacked at the right ankle and it tripped him into the net where he ended up behind the net for a minute on his hands and knees. Took him a minute to get up. Maybe it is his right ankle? Have no idea really.

Niemo with Scott and Freel
Nadeau with Fowler and Schole
Pichette in on the 4th

As per Hockey East

Hoping Niemo gets on the board tonight. Maybe it is a bit of Nadeau getting demoted as a punishment for his lack of effort last night.

Coach Barr says Russell will get a week off and he should be better after that.

He's in a booth beside me with a soft cast on his wrist

Thought Maine dominated 5v5 but the power plays were terrible. Boija is going to want that one back, but Komarov salvages it at the last second. If Maine plays that way all game, I think they cruise.

Still some really baffling decision making with the puck in the OZ but a better start than last night.

What a difference Komarov has made as the fourth line center after how much Barr struggled to find that guy last year.

Lesakowski turned twice on the same shift giving up chances in tight. Leads to a long shift where Maine is pinned in their end. Looked like a power play for UConn even though it was 5-on-5. UConn out working Maine right now.
