University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

I think a HE tourney championship means more in the long run. Hot at the right point in the season.

It does make me wonder who the committee will reward more at the end of the day: regular season champion or the tournament winner.

In a season where Hockey East is as deep as its ever been, I can see the case for the team surviving that long grind getting more weight.

At any rate, according to PlayoffStatus Maine's odds are at 50% currently for a 1st place finish. BC (23%) and PC (19%) are the next closest.

They better be ready to play this weekend. Connecticut is playing more like how I thought they were going to play off the heels of their 2022 run to the Garden, they are a very solid team and are At-Large caliber at this time. If they're looking ahead to next weekend they could get burned.

Aren't they off next weekend? I would figure BB has them firing out the gate knowing they have time to recover

Oh yeah, I guess you're right, I thought next weekend was the singles against UMA/NU, but that's the following weekend. Still, my point stands, UConn is good. But I still have the utmost faith in the team and the staff, even with my post.

What would winning a Hockey East regular season title mean for the program at this point? We haven’t done it since 1995. Obviously still a ways to go until it’s a reality but I think it would signal some staying power for Maine in the next 5-10 years.

I think it would be an incredible achievement for a team that probably is fourth or fifth in league as far as talent goes. To me being the best team over the course of 24 games means more than winning a few games in a row.

If they do win it I doubt it impacts future years very much. There is going to be so much turnover year to year for all teams that what you did one year probably won’t have matter much for following years.

Was thinking Yukon would probably be stoked by that period until Maine scored. No space for the Black Bears at all. Hopefully it opens up a bit more the rest of the way

Greasy goal. Will take it..need to get their legs Uconn is clogging everything up

I thought Maine got better in the last 5 minutes. One thing that happened several times is Maine forwards throwing it out of our own zone which helped UConn’s transition. Maine has to get pucks deep and hem them in. UConn has a bit of speed and keeping it down low behind the UConn net is how Maine will generate offense. Like you said, greasy goals please. The penalty on Lesakowski seemed questionable. Guy does a big wind up and he stick on stick stopped his shot, that is defense. He didn’t tug the guy’s body or hands with his stick. Strange call, I would say that is exactly what you want him to do and not tug him yet he gets called for penalty anyways.

Oh well, tied at 1. Hopefully Maine gets it going.

Boija not looking good on that one, giving up too much on the short side. Ouch. Don’t usually see him give that up. Soft.

UConn 2-1 Muldowny scores on a rush shot from left dot, beat Boija short side which was blocker side.
