University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Obviously a tough loss. Maybe I'm naive or overly optimistic, but I'm not that worried about them still after this.

Maine outshot them 45-19 SOG while Bentley had 27 blocked shots.

I’m not worried by a loss in a game that normally you would win easily enough.

Hopefully it serves as a reminder to motivate them team.

We took a beating in the RPI and Pariwise after losing to the team with the #57 now #50 #SOS. Need to stop playing down to the competition. This is a game you shouldn't lose.

Ever notice Barr says "panic" alot in his interviews in regards to this team? I think he feels we are still not there and I agree

He was referring to the turnover by Djuresevic on that first goal. Got pressured by a Bentley forward and instead of chipping it off the boards or pinning it to the boards and trying to keep it there and from turning it over he decides to try to pass towards middle of the ice and it ends up in front of his own net right to a Bentley forward in all alone on Boija. Maine seems to have one or two of those per game. He is basically saying some guys when the puck is one their stick they don’t want it and can’t wait to get rid of it. So they force passes, or get nervous and fumble it. Brazeale had a bad turnover too, where he fell down and turned it over. But he recovered the puck after and then went the length of the ice and got a shot on net from in close after weaving through everyone.

Here's a Civic Center themed memory:

My freshman season we were scheduled to play a game against Kent State in Portland. Ticket sales were soft, to say the least. I was in Shawn's office when he was talking to the reporter from the Press Herald. With a wink, Shawn said that if the fans in southern Maine weren't keen on seeing the team then he wouldn't bother playing in Portland anymore. The next day the Herald posted a banner headline that Maine might not schedule future games in Portland.

The game sold out by noon.

StillKIA2, post your name and email address and I'll transfer the tickets (I'd advise you to delete the post as soon as I do)

I can’t be much of a knowitall if I don’t have your email in my rolodex…i emailed you directly

I agree but he directly called out everyone who was not named Scott and Freel. This is the 3rd or 4th interview I have heard "panic"

This isn't the first Maine team to lose or tie in Portland against a team they should have beaten. They probably have a winning record playing there but it always seems like they have an "off" game. Hopefully it gives them a wake up call so they are ready for DU.

Meh, this game will be good for this team. Not just in terms of a wake up call, but beating a good defensive team with a hot goalie is something that has to be learned. This nonsense about not playing outside of Alfond is BS . You need these experiences to win the big games on neutral ice which is what the NCAA's is all about. Chit if you can sell out the rink in Portland, you play there, no if, ands or buts about it. Not to mention its visibility for local Maine kids, particularly the most talented who normally come from southern Maine.

Was at the game. Lots of confusion about the first no goal, goal, no goal. What a disaster the refs spent 5 minutes to review and then go back to review again. Idk if the TV copy gave more insight. Seemed poorly managed.

Between the post shot at the end, Bentley holding/tripping and mucking the game up by packing it in, and putting in 3 goals on 18 shots as a Maine fan you’re just left with the learning experience silver lining for the team. It was great to see a packed house, but the only guy that stood out was Harrison Scott. Team seemed rusty.

Refs first reviewed whether it was goal or not. Ruled a goal, based on crossing the line. Refs then reviewed whether there was goal tender interference at the request of Bentley coach. Refs ruled there was some interference. Then ruled not a goal. All seems legit, but would have been nice if the refs had called goal tender interference on the ice in the first place. Maybe it was one of those marginal type calls.

Scott is the best player on the team especially now with Breen out. I don't see this team as very deep offensively, they score by Committee and when the D is packed in like it was those scores off rebounds weren't there. Also 17 minutes on PP and one goal, not good. Again I've seen quite few games at Portland, this was a typical game there. I think its the layoff, fat and happy after the 3 week break??

A few weeks ago, BU had 4 goals waved off and their opponents had 1 waved off (lowell?)…all for goaltender interference and all after review.

I’ll be very impressed if Maine can make the NCAA tournament with Breen missing the second half. Even when he was healthy seemed like they were missing something they had last year. The rest of the schedule will be really difficult and Maine will need to be a lot better at both ends of the ice.

Maine is tied for 3rd in the country in goals for per game.

Maine is 4th in the country on power play percentage at 27.3%.

Maine lost a game, but let’s not characterize them based solely off one loss.

Maine had 95 shots, of which 27 were blocked. 45 were on net. Their goalie played well and Maine was snake bitten.

Maine will take a dip in the poll and PWR but will be fine in the long run.
