University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy your families and friends today.

My brother taught at RPI for a couple years, decided being a college Prof wasn't for him. Can't think of the hockey players name he had in class, ended up with the Bruins for awhile.

what years did he teach? We have people like Ralph who won’t stop until that name is found lol. I bet if you put it on the RPI thread you’ll have a name by puck drop Saturday.

Off the top of my head, Oates, Carter, Juneau, and Nienhuis played for Boston.

Edit: Add Hammond, Townshend, and Healey.

Happy Thanksgiving! I sure am thankful for the Maine hockey program… coaches, players, employees, families, fans, students in balcony, band, and die hard! The long winter is so much more enjoyable with good Maine hockey team.

Nick Peluso highlight on a toe drag and a deke the goalie to the back hand goal. Nifty play maker it seems. https://x.com/BCHockeyLeague/status/1860144834419523960

He plays on Brooks Bandits(BCHL) which has 4 Blackbear recruits on the team… Nick Peluso(RW), Nate Yellowaga(LD), Dante Siciliano(RD), and Mikus Vecvanags(G). Kevin Yellowaga, Nate’s Dad, is the skills coach of the Brooks Bandits. He worked with Taylor and Cale Makar during their time with the Brooks Bandits.

Nick should join the team next year since he is an 04.

Watching the Notre Dame vs. Harvard game at the friendship four in Belfast, Ireland and they have Colin Shields doing the color role for the broadcast.

Has Peluso signed his NLI?

Haven’t heard. Only heard of James and Raftery signing NLI.

My guess on who comes in next year:

Peluso(RW), James(RC), Raftery(RW), Arneson(LC), Taylor(LW), Peters(RW), Eperjesi(LD)

All but two age out of juniors and they replace losses:

Mitton(RW), Breen(LC), Renwick(LC), Scott(LC), Makar(LW), Niemo(RW), Breazeale(LD)

For the most part it lines up well with the losses. I’m assuming Niemo might transfer is he isn’t getting playing time. I’m surprised he hasn’t seen any ice time this season. Not sure what his practice habits are like.

From someone in a class with him, Freel graduates this year too. He has another year of eligibility so probably comes back.

In case anyone wants to check out any NAHL recruits you can watch NAHL games for free this weekend.

https://www.nahltv.com/

Just have to enter email and register, takes one minute.

For example, in 5 minutes from now at 7 PM EST there is a game between New Hampshire Mountain Kings and Maine Nordiques. So if they are in the line up you can watch Maine recruits Jaden Johnson(NH), Ace Bond(ME), and Wade Weil(ME).

Colin scored the first goal against Wisconsin many years ago. He used a thin screen there, and from the high slot

Then Hammy got the credit for a goal that NOBODY saw hours later.

Watched 1,000 replays on that one, and nobody knows how that one got into the net, but we'll take it.

Bowling Green now has 5 recruits from major junior.

For hockey East UNH has 3, Merrimack has 1, Providence has 1, UConn has 1, and Vermont has 1.

Maine 1-0 on a Russell backhander of a puck that was passed to him by Fowler. The major play on that was Breen stop and go, stop and go, several times to get that initial pass to Fowler. Wow!

Obviously RPI isn’t the greatest team in the world but it was nice to see Maine have a solid period defensively. Hopefully we can see more of that against hockey east teams.
