Congratulations to Maine on two easy wins in Troy N.Y.! You guys are welcome!
I don't expect it to be easy for either team.
Maine has to show up. RPI isn't a pushover, by any means.

That one was in Worcester.
BU and another red team went on for almost 4 hours. I think it was St. Lawrence. They had a great goalie back then as well, at least on that night. That game was finally decided in the 4th OT.
We were nearly out of gas as spectators, then Ricky let one in, and we were relieved that we could finally see our guys play after nearly 5 hours. Felt like sitting for a root canal.
Cakewalk for Maine after that. Bye-bye Michigan, and to on the FF.
(Of course, I might have that wrong after sooo many Maine games over the years, but I don't think so.)
So I did a little research because my memory was getting a little foggy as well.
The BU St Lawrence game was in Albany in 2000. I remember there were some birds in the arena that night. Maine played and beat Michigan later that night, 5-2.
The Harvard comeback game was in Albany in 2004. Here is the Harvard view of things:
https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2004/3/26/no-1-maine-stages-four-goal-third/
The article notes that prior to that game, Howard hadn’t allowed an even strength goal since Dec 5 (11 games)…..what???? That’s insane.
The Maine Harvard game that was in Worcester was the 2002 game where John Ronan (I was thinking it was Josh Soares at first but it wasn’t) scored the winner against Harvard in OT. What I do remember is his shot hitting the crossbar and bouncing straight down and landing about a cm over the goal line.
Two notable wins vs Harvard set up both our national championship game heartbreaks.
Cory Larose supposedly speared Mike comley? and didn't play in Providence, that sucked. That Frozen Four was fun though as Providence shut down the streets around the arena and bars were serving outside. Maine played and beat Michigan later that night, 5-2.s.![]()
I think UMass won the national championship when Barr was an assistant and Maine hired him right after that. Jimmy Montgomery was on search committee for Maine and had a heavy recommendation due in part to his days of coaching alongside Barr at RPI when Barr was a volunteer assistant.
There was also the Ken Ralph connection: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2021/05/14_Barr-Turned-Crossroads,-Into.php

Some coaching tips Barr did at St Andrews college for The Coach Site in September.
Thanks. Also on that YouTube site is another great Barr interview: https://youtu.be/ybR4Yk0XHR4?si=5SOb1B29-YUVicBq
Thanks for that link. I think we have our guy in Barr. He definitely seems to grasp the fact that Maine hockey is not merely a pastime, but a religion. Can't wait to see it in person this weekend for the first time this season. Ready to run through a brick wall after that interview!!!
To anyone making the trip to Troy this weekend, I can't recommend the restaurant Bespoki Bowl enough. My favorite restaurant in the Capital Region.
In UNH thread they said UNH just got 3 major junior recruits. Be a shame if Maine doesn’t also try to get their fair share. I know they might displace some recruits we currently have, but be nice to sprinkle in a few top skilled guys.

I was reading about results in a 15U selects tournament and a player, Declan Wotton, from Windsor, ME was commented on. He is 6’1″, 180 lbs left shot power forward that played for Seacoast Performance Academy U15 in this tournament. That’s a big kid for 15. Anyhow, he is described as power forward that skates through people, goes to the net, plays heavy, wins on the boards, and has a hard shot. Hopefully he is on Maine’s radar for recruiting next year. When reading about him it reminded me of Greg Moore, when we first started hearing about Greg when he was that age. Windsor is little over an hour from Orono.
Any other Maine kids that are on the recruiting radar for UMaine?
Ronnie Hill https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...13/ronnie-hill
There are one or two others but can’t remember their names right now. A lot of them play for Seacoast.
