University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

On the recruiting front…

Never a good sign when a logo is dropped from a USHL line chart. Looks like Peter Cisar(Fargo-USHL) might have decomitted. Can anyone confirm?

Good catch. I think you’re onto something. I think Raftery has dropped off too. I
think you are going to see a ton of their ‘04 and ‘05 commits drop off here in short order. They were over extended and many haven’t panned out.

Brock James signed his NLI last week so he’s a lock. I am thinking Nick Peluso too but we will see. Vorinin may need another year. I think you’re gonna see a ton of action between now and late spring grabbing guys from the CHL and the portal.

I think this is a product of exactly that over recruiting but now you can be a little more selective since the program is turning around..kudos to Barr on this.

Good for Monty, going back to an organization that holds regard and appreciation for him, unlike the boston cluster.
Will miss having him back in new england though, it was awesome that he did a few things for the Maine team and how he went to some Maine games when held in Boston.

Well looky there, Chuck said about 62,000 words worth on information in only 19 words

it CAN be done!

Didn't realize you were my self-appointed editor KIA :p

... and still Sparkee virtually repeated my posted almost word for word, within an hour.

Are we sure this is good for Montgomery? Blues are sort of a mess..kind of reeks like other coaches jumping at the first vacancy and going back somewhere, see Claude Julien going back to Montreal. If he fails in St. Louis he is likely done as a coach for a long time

I believe Monty’s wife’s family is from the St. Louis area so seems like a good situation from that perspective.

Getting out of Boston is probably a good thing for him career wise. Feels like that team is dying a slow death and heading for a major rebuild. The window looks to be closed for that group of guys.

Most people are sensible enough to look at his Bruins tenure as Neely/Sweeney failing to build a competent NHL roster not Monty failing the Bruins. That’s evident in him lasting a less than a week on the open market.

I think St. Louis a decent landing spot. A good-not-great core at the NHL level that Monty will probably get more out of than someone like Bannister who was in over his head and a solid farm system (11th per Elite Prospects) that can provide reinforcements the B’s couldn’t.

The extension negotiations were a big issue for Sweeny. An extension by Sweeny would mean the coach is doing a good job. Now, if the Bruins finish at .500 and miss the playoffs AFTER giving Monty the extension the blame falls on the roster building. Because you extended Monty which is an acknowledgment that Monty isn’t the issue. Sweeny had only one move left for self preservation which is to point to a need for new coaching as the issue. This way he can focus his efforts on a coaching search and if Boston finishes .500 he can make some moves for a rebuild. He can show new coach, new players, new hope. Sweeny threw Monty under the bus. I’m glad Monty got out now and is in St. Louis. I think it worked out better for Monty and his family this way.

How is everybody feeling about this upcoming weekend at RPI?

They seem to take a lot penalties.

RPI has played the 2nd easiest schedule in college hockey and they are 1 game over .500. Maine has played the 3rd hardest schedule and are 6 games over .500. Maine is a heavy favorite in this one and should sweep RPI despite it being on RPI’s ice.

I expect Berzins to get a start. Time to see what he can do. He looked fine in what time we’ve seen him so far. Would like to get a look at Brian Morse. And it would be great to see Carney, Nobes, Niemo get some ice time. Maybe not all at once on the same night. But would be good to see how they are playing now.
