University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Survived the QU/BU/BC stretch, finally won at UHN and also won the games they were expected to win, and they are still in the upper pairwise tier and on top in Hockey East with some easier games to close out the year?
ALL GOOD!!

I VERY rarely hang anything on Refs, but Piotrowski’s performance was special. You saw the forearm shiver thrown by Fowler last weekend? That was NOTHING compared to Adam Hauser’s, when he took down a flying Todd Jackson right in front of Piotrowski, in OT, right after Schutte was called for a leg check (correct call, in my opinion).

I recall that one.

Easy slashing whistle, but that game was in Minneapolis, so there you go.

If ever there was a truly bad call in a Natty, that was it.

Still stings years later that was a BS loss no matter which way you cut it. I'll cheer for anyone instead of Minnesota. Screw them

What was the ref even looking at ...soft as baby poo call

That was one heckuva game to watch. UNH parking lot is completely gridlocked getting out so might as well post. Boija made some great saves. I thought Breen had his best game this year. He was skating with speed. Have no clue why the first empty netter was called off, Makar was not near the play as far as I could tell. The crowd was great at UNH, loud and good atmosphere. It was a good grind it out game. It was strange to see UNH drop back so much in a trap in the third with 10 minutes left down by a goal. Maine missed the net a LOT, pretty sure less than 50% shots taken got on net. Happy with the game overall though, big 3 points tonight!

That was the worst experience watching a game live for me. Minnesota building was so loud, stuck in an absolute sea of maroon with the worst sinking feeling. I have no idea how I didn’t get in a fight after that game with all the idiots carrying on.

The nc against Denver was bad.

The Gionta 5 goals in 10 minutes or however long was terrible too.

Tonight was a great road game, right up there with good ones!

Great road win to end first half of hockey east play. Now need to take care of business in some winnable OOC games.

Breen was great tonight, along with that whole line. Brings a smile to my face to see Breen finding his form.

Maine has done well to put the BC loss behind them, rediscover their game and navigate a really tough stretch of schedule to open the year. They’ve positioned themselves really well to earn an NCAA bid this season.

Great win, Maine handled a ton of pressure in 3rd and Boija was an absolute stud. You need great goaltending and great special teams to be successful and so far Maine is bringing that to the table.

Not sure about the tripping call at 5 minutes left in 3rd, #3 sliding on ice and UHN players goes over him?. The Call on Makar was a f'ing joke. Slashing, bullshit.

Good to see Breen look like last year, chirping and scoring. Now if Josh can get going after he comes back.

UHN was better than I thought, probably the Whitt helps that but by reading posts by UHN fans you'd think they sucked.

Good way to end HE play before the new year. On to RPI, not sure if they are any good but road games are always tough

What posts? Here? You must mean elsewhere as the UNH usuals haven't chimed in yet...And I agree...I think we played a hard fought game.

I still don't understand the 1-2-2 trap when it's 0-0 in the beginning of the game and then going to the same trap in the third when you are behind. That's a good way to get fired.

Glad to see the win down there in that pit.
I think a better team would have tied it up there were too many chances given, still have some stuff to clean up in the third, getting there, they surely are capable of it

Good to hear Barr giving the fourth line their flowers. Haven't racked up a ton of minutes in recent games, but they have been noticeable on every shift, especially Komarov.

Can't really say enough good things about Boija. Those Grade A saves he made on Conmy late in the game were simply fantastic.

Still amazes me that a team didn't take a flier on him late in the 2024 draft with Maine's history of being such a reliable goalie pipeline (second most goalie wins in the NHL of any NCAA program).

Are you kidding me? Souza’s been doing everything humanly possible trying to get fired and the school just throws more money at him

I felt like UNH had the better of the chances when they were trapping in the first period. Come period three, going back to what worked best for you didn't seem like the worst idea. One thing that was heartening to me was that when UNH got out of the trap and tried to play more flowing hockey they just didn't have the horses. Maine being able to look at all but one or two teams in the league and say "we're just more talented than you, figure it out if you can" is a nice step forward.

On the recruiting front…

Never a good sign when a logo is dropped from a USHL line chart. Looks like Peter Cisar(Fargo-USHL) might have decomitted. Can anyone confirm?

How volatile PWR is early in season, Denver dropped to 8th after 2 losses this weekend.
