Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

same but with younger players they are more apt to poke and go or cheat on the o side. Should be fun to watch and will be good for team long term, split will be solid. Would not be surprised and expect U to take both
Thanks for the info Hokydad. I've seen some video of Vesey and he looks like a bigtime talent. Should be a good game tonight.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Seems like a real good win tonight, going on the road and beating #14 Harvard 6-2. I see Ciampini continued his hot streak with a couple goals and an assist. Grosenick getting hurt isn't a positive development.... according to Brian Sullivan, Rick Bennett says it's Grosenick's ankle. The SID previously said Grosenick is "week-to-week." Klump saw Grosenick standing on his own "just fine" in the tunnel at the end of the game. Who knows.

I wasn't able to see/hear/follow the game so I'm not sure what all happened... I was at the womens game. They skated to a 2-2 tie. Not a bad game at all.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Union apparently outplayed Harvard in all aspects of the game. Harvard's goaltending was less than stellar and and Harvard looked soft. 7 draft picks. Meh. Donato is still their coach and IMO that's a problem. Ciampini is emerging as a real force though I think the second goal was changed. Seeing another top line player hurt in as many weeks certainly is tough to swallow but unlike a few short season's ago this team is very deep. I would be surprised to see Troy tomorrow unless he is 100 percent which is unlikely. With exam break coming up he can get two full weeks to heal up and more if he sits out Penn State, all the best to him for a quick recovery.

Battle for first at Hanover tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Back then, It was called Achilles Rink. I remember going to one of the first games of the season and hearing someone in the crowd say, "They stole the Hartford Whalers Theme Song!" That kind of hokey music was par for the course in the Division III days...

I enjoyed tonight's win at Harvard, but having Troy out for even a few games is gonna be tough. Stevens looked good in the relief effort, but the whole team needs to step up and make sure they don't leave him out to dry...

Furthermore, the league needs to take a closer look at teams running our goalies. It's happening way to much to be even remotely acceptable. I see why people complain about ECAC refs. Calling a penalty immediately on any contact with the goalie play, especially in the midst of a blowout would keep tempers from overflowing so much..Just a couple of pennies for thought..

Keith.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

I'm not so sure that there is a concerted effort to run our goalies but the refs do seem to let some obvious stuff go on goalie interference while some ticky tack stuff gets called. I will say that it looked like Troy was way out of the crease on tonight's play though the Harvard player probably was a bit deliberate in avoiding contact. Still it's a game played at high speed and these things can happen.

Grosenick reportedly out 3-4 weeks:

Ken Schott ‏@slapschotts
A source tells me that #UnionHockey goalie Troy Grosenick will be out 3-4 weeks with a leg injury. Nothing broken, which is the good news.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

At least Union has a very capable backup, a guy that probably would start on several teams, and next weekend off (good timing).

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Stevens played great .... if it had been the Harvard Goalie, the ref's would have called something. This was the first time the two teams have met since last year's ECAC final in Atlantic City. That was 0-0 after 2. The ECAC is getting a lot more respect with the success of Cornell and Union last year.

Dartmouth looks very tough this year. Returning superstars.

Hope they can pull it off tonight.
Dartmouth's turnaround to this point is kind of stunning. Without M Bodes and Troy, it will take a huge team effort to prevail tonight. I know it's rediculously early but Dartmouth is no. 1 in the pairwise and Union is no. 7. This game could actually have a lot of significance come tournament time. I am beginning think that there may be something to the injuries we are sustaining and our being targeted by other teams, or at least I am beginning to see a pattern.

I am waiting for some of the frosh to come around like Wilkins and Roy in particular. If we start to get any production at all from them, Union could really be a tough act to slow down. We got our two points this weekend, another point or two would be very much welcomed.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Dartmouth has some good sophomores and they started off the game last night against RPI with a goal from a freshman. It should be a great game tonight.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Watch out for shorty Sikura (and I don't mean height), and Robinson's also a very good player.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Thought we didn't get anything going till the third and almost came back but it was a little too much to overcome. I thought Stevens was shaky and really think that he didnt look calm in the net. Just my opinion though, we need him to play better than tonight till Grose comes back. Thats just me though.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Not sure what to make of this one. Looked like Union came out a bit sluggish and got stung early and then meandered through the first two periods. Lots of credit to Dartmouth but Union was definitely not in A game mode. It happens. The third goal with :08 left in the second was the coup de grace. Radio guys thought there was some uncharacteristic nonchalance on that segment. Stevens may not have been the sharpest but he gave us a chance to win which we couldn't capitalize upon. Zero on the PP didn't help. We need to get healthy. Losses happen still I can't help but feel that with a better effort we might have gotten at least another point this weekend. Still going into the weekend I would have been ok with 2 points so I can deal with it. Some overall wild results this weekend, what a whacky league-but that's why I enjoy it so much.

Dartmouth is strong, don't think this was a loss because the team was tired or other. I expected a battle, but I also expected Dartmouth to win or tie. Wish Troy played in net tonight but I also wish Goggin and Bligh were playing as well. Game to Dartmouth, Union and Dartmouth are both great teams for sure. Maybe.....Maybe.... This is the year Dartmouth makes the NCAA Tournament. Oh my, with all the players in the NHL and all the years Dartmouth has come so close! I wish we (Dartmouth) fans could walk a mile in your shoes. Good luck Union the rest of the way.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

From what I could hear on the radio, sounded like a great game last night and all credit to the Big Green. Union had the edge in puck possession in the first 2 periods but couldn't get to the front of the net to convert (a familiar problem at times) and Dartmouth took advantage of their opportunities. Last second goal at end of 2nd could have been a killer, but to U's credit they came out strong in the 3rd and got right back in the game. Dartmouth is always a tough matchup for U. Gaudet is a good coach and he always has good sized forwards with speed and skill. They are up and down depending on defensemen and goaltending. Sounds like they are getting good tending from Morris so far. Hopefully they stay a TUC and U gets some revenge in Schenectady.

Re: Union Hockey 2012-2013 - Unfinished Business

Not sure how great a coach Gaudet is. With all of the talent moving through Hanover including successful NHL players, Dartmouth has accomplished very little in postseason play.
