Union College: 2019-2020

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

We may only win one or two more before the season ends and the first round begins. That would give us 7-8 wins for the year. I highly doubt that we will reach 10 wins. I don't think we will end up in last place in the ECAC. I do think we are in for a long drought. Have we improved during the year? Yes, but so has everyone else. I think we need to ratchet down our expectations for Union College hockey for the next few years.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

We are now tied with Brown at 1.68 GPG at 59th with Vermont at 1.62. It is possible that we end the year in last place having the worst offense (GPG) in DI College Hockey.

I hate to have been right about this but the struggles of this season, and the downturn of the program, was able to be seen from a mile away.

As I posted almost a year ago, "If people think this year hasn't been great, I think the next few are likely to be even worse."

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

On the women's side, Union swept RPI this weekend, 5-1 on Friday and 2-0 today in the women's portion of the Mayor's Cup doubleheader.

And then there's this: The Dutchwomen currently hold a playoff spot with about a month left in the regular season.

Any chance we can recruit some of them to the men's team?

Any chance the men can reclaim their old unis? IMO the Union meatball looks much better than the block Union stripe.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

Another D1 program is sinking substantial money into their facility situation - Sacred heart is getting a $60M arena: https://www.uscho.com/2020/01/25/sa...or-mens-womens-d-i-teams-set-to-open-in-2022/

Meanwhile, Union has done little to address their facility problem.....

I wonder what the attendance figures look like for the year and if they have dropped off and if so by how much. I wonder what the "break even" number is for attendance. I guess we also share the "Gate" when on the road.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

Well ... we are now Dead Last in DI college hockey in scoring
60 Union 26 43 1.65 72 2.77 12 101 11.88 18 96 81.25 1
We are 60 out of 60 teams. 1.65 GPG. The ECAC has some very good defensive teams and I believe we still have them on our schedule. Very good possibility that we end up as the team with the worst team offense in all of college hockey as measures by GPG. When a team cannot score, that puts a lot of pressure on the D and the goalie as opponents can take chances. Our offense gets shut down easily by opponents as evidenced in shots per game. Any word on incoming recruits? When you are in the basement, it's very hard to climb out.

I think it's coming. I just think there maybe some snafus not with money but with Logistics of either building or renovating

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

One thing I believe about our scoring is that there is no speed up front. I noticed a Jump when they put Kolias up front. When are D men are faster than our Fowards than can cause issues with the transistion game on D and on O.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

I thought they had gotten past the problems where other teams were skating circles around them, but I guess I was wrong.

How could this be the same team that should have beaten Cornell?

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

I wish the coaches could have taught Kolias how to shot. With his blinding speed he could have been awesome. Coulda, shoulda, woulda ..... I think we actually scored one or two of Dartmouth's goals for them. Can we make it out of the bottom 4 so as to have home ice for the first round? I am not sure we saw the same Dartmouth team that handily beat Cornell.

While QU handily beat Cornell on Friday, Dartmouth’s win over Cornell was 2-1, in a game where Cornell outshot Dartmouth 40-17.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

With only six more league games to play its going to be hard to climb to 8th place but it's possible. We would have to catch Yale and Dartmouth. Don't think its going to happen. Going into this weekend we were averaging 1.65 Goals per Game, the worse in College Hockey. This weekend we scored 9 goals or 4.5 Goals per Game. Not an easy weekend coming up against Colgate and Cornell. We will need every point we can get to get home ice.

To be fair, Cornell was the better team in both games. Our goalie stole the first one and we lead the entire second until a late Big Red goal. So the word 'handily" might be handily too loose. Regardless, we played very well against them

After about 5 minutes last night, I didn’t think it was possible. I was wrong. I was impressed how they worked and clawed back into the game...only to have it stolen away from them by Schafer and the refs.

Again, horrible officiating.
