Union College: 2019-2020

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

The long term contract for Bennett was a mistake, imho. He won because of the program Nate Leaman put together.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

I think that we need to think about the possibility of a 5 or 6 win season. Our strong suit this year was supposed defense but we are unable to keep a good offensive team in check. When we are on offense we are unable to get the puck out of the zone. No one's fault. We just don't have the skill, talent and/or experience. By the way, Ken Schott, IMO sucks. Good times or bad, he will find something shi**y to say about the team or the school or the coaches.

You mad at Schottzie, bro? For years, the man's had garnet colored pom poms.
The team's had some graduations, injuries and defections. And a lot of freshmen.
It's not pretty but it will get better.

You mad at coach, bro? He's been a big part of the success of last few years. Don't forget he contributed to Lehman's success here.
Things will get better.

What makes you think I am mad at Bennett? If anything, mad at UC for the contract. Bring back Ned Harkness!!! hahahahahah.
RPI has a chance to put an historic hurt on U this weekend. Let's hope U can get it together.

Methinks UC gave the contract extension for two reasons: Bennett is good, he posts results. Also, his name kept popping up in Hockey East coaching searches over the last few off seasons (Merrimack, UMass, BU). Methinks the extension is both a reward and a retention tool.

Re: Lehman building and Bennett maintaining. It's true that Lehman made something out of nothing. Let's remember that Bennett was his top recruiter and his top assistant. When Lehman went to PC, UC named Bennett as Lehman's successor that same day. Lehman's endorsement certainly didn't hurt.

Is the 0-6 record making you feel the contract extension was a mistake? Look at who's not on this team anymore. You don't see steam coming out of Bennett's ears, he's busy teaching and developing. it's early. Be patient.

No, the last few years make me think it was a mistake.

Hi again everyone! The ECAC schedule begins this Friday, so you only have two days remaining to submit your entry to this year's ECAC Pick The Standings Contest. Follow the link and all you need to do is project the final standings and see how well your predictions match up with other fans on the board along with the media and coaches over the course of the season. I hope to see you all there!

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

"The UMass hockey team is 3-1 and ranked No. 3 behind Denver and Minnesota State in the latest USCHO.com poll. Four games isn’t a great sample size, but it’s enough to know the Minutemen won’t collapse under the weight of losing last year’s top guns: Cale Makar, Jacob Pritchard and Mario Ferraro.

Makar and Ferraro are in the NHL and Pritchard’s playing for the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. Coach Greg Carvel is filling the void by juggling lines, flip-flopping wings and playing all eight freshmen. He’s put co-captain Niko Hildenbrand between newcomers Cal Kiefiuk and Reed Lebster and tried an all-rookie line of Peyton Reeves, Eric Faith and Jeremy Davidson. On defense he’s paired senior Jake McLaughlin with sophomore Ty Farmer, phenom Zac Jones with sophomore Colin Felix, and is using freshmen Gianfranco Cassaro and Matthew Kessel together until Marc Del Gaizo gets healthy.

“We’ve lived off freshmen and sophomores since I got here,” Carvel told WHMP’s Donnie Moorhouse after the season opener. “I thought we were going to be older, but we’re young again.”

Carvel’s on record saying he’s never worried about his offense. They are fast and shifty and move inside the blue line like electrons spinning around an atom. During Saturday’s dominating 5-0 win against Union, 10 players hit the scoresheet. “We’re starting to figure out how to become the team we need to be,” said Carvel."

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

You got to remember year to year good classes come in clusters. Recruiting is not all easy in the NCAA this day since the NCAA in DIV 1 has expanding.
We had a good slot of players since 2010 and now we're in that rebuilding stage again. Takes patience, takes time. Plus with Freshman out numbering Upper Class men
this is a challenge. It will come Ray, It will come.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

Another loss but a step forward. Union came out very poorly, getting outshot 18-6 in the first period and trailing 2-1 after 20. It seemed like maybe another long night was ahead. But Union settled down - they outshot RPI 20-12 the rest of the way, including by a 15-5 mark in the third period. Considering some of Union's third period efforts this season, it was encouraging to see.

Union just couldn't find the equalizer but were the better team in the third period. If they can play like that for a full 60 tomorrow, you have to like their chances to finally get a win.

Should be a good game in Troy tomorrow.

Ken Schott had a podcast before the first RPI game where he ridiculed the team and made fun of them comparing them to the girls team. Even his podcast partner said he himself was not going to get into "insults". The worst part of this year will be putting up with Schott. IMO he is a POS.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

Yesterday's game was a perfect example of what a team without confidence looks like. Players unable to pick up passes cleanly. Breakout passes to players who are standing still. More chips and flips than passes. Loosing most of the puck battles. Then, they got a couple of bounces go the right way in the third period and suddenly, the doubt seemed to evaporate. They started to believe. I think there is some talent here, but they are fragile. I expect them to start the next game with a bit more bounce in their step. Let's hope they get a few breaks and then we can watch the confidence build.

He won the National Championship. The Division I National Championship. At Union College. Union. College. You will die before that EVER happens again. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way.

Because of the team he was left by Nate Leaman. Try to learn some UC history.

Re: Union College: 2019-2020

Bennett was promoted to Leaman's associate head coach in 2007, running the defense and the special teams. They are arguably Union's greatest strengths. This past season, the Dutchmen owned the nation's best power play (29.5 percent) and second-best goals against average (2.10).

"He knows the pattern for how to win at Union, because he helped build it," Leaman said.

In the days before Leaman left for Providence, Union's athletic director had asked him who, hypothetically, might be a suitable replacement. Leaman gave only one recommendation -- Bennett.
