FIRST ALL-STAR TEAM
Mike Vecchione, F, Union: One of two Union Dutchmen to post 50 points last season, Vecchione improved upon an already impressive freshman season with 19 goals and 31 assists in his sophomore campaign. The junior center will take inspiration from Vesey’s season last year, telling Ken Schott of the Schenectady Daily Gazette, “You look at a guy like Vesey, he dominated all the games and got 30 goals. My game needs to get to that level before I even think about moving to the next level.” Vecchione has a very good chance of at least replicating last season.
Jeff Taylor, D, Union: The Pittsburgh Penguins prospect led the Dutchmen blue line in scoring, averaging almost a point per game. Now the graduation of captain Charlie Vasaturo gives Taylor the reins to lead the Union defense in his junior season.
ALL-ROOKIE TEAM
Brett Supinski, F, Union: If their junior hockey numbers are any indication, Supinski and Sebastian Vidmar should provide the same kind of immediate impact that Spencer Foo and Ryan Scarfo did for the Dutchmen last season. Supinski put up a staggering 98 points, including 48 goals, in 58 games for the Coquitlam Express in the BCHL. Union has plenty of offensive players up front, meaning Supinski should have plenty of support.
Joe Young, G, Union: The graduation of Colin Stevens means the Dutchmen will be in search of a new No. 1 goaltender. The competition will be between Alex Sakellaropoulos, Jake Kupsky and Young. Expect one of the freshmen to grab the starter’s job and run with it, and Young is the best bet on that front.
