Union College: 2015-2016

Re: Union College: 2015-2016

Caps’ Harrison commits to Union

http://www.cowichanvalleycitizen.com/sports/321478981.html

Harrison was one of only two players to appear in all 58 games for the Caps in 2014/15, leading the team in goals with 22 and points with 46. His 24 assists were the second-highest total among Cowichan forwards, one back of teammate Darien Craighead. Harrison had a team-high eight power play goals, and his three game-winners were tied with captain Kyle Horsman for the most by a Capital. He racked up a mere six minutes in penalties over the course of the season, and was recognized by the Capitals organization with the team's Rookie of the Year and Most Sportsmanlike Player awards.

Sounds like a keeper to me :)

Looks like Jim will replace RPI's Jim Knowlton as the ECAC representative on the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee. Both A+ Athletic Directors and excellent choices to represent the ECAC. I will never forget RPI's Jim Knowlton awarding the National Championship Trophy to us in Philadelphia. He is a class act. Did RPI find a replacement?

McLaughlin added to NCAA hockey committee
by Ryan Fay

Union athletics director Jim McLaughlin has been added to the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee, USCHO.com reported Tuesday.

McLaughlin will be ECAC Hockey's representative on the committee, which has one seat for each of the six hockey-playing conferences. He will serve the final two years of the four-year term that former RPI athletic director Jim Knowlton vacated when he departed for the same role at Air Force in January.

In addition to McLaughlin, the committee includes New Hampshire deputy athletic director Steve Metcalf, North Dakota athletic director Brian Faison, Minnesota senior associate athletic director Tom McGinnis, Army head coach Brian Riley, and Michigan Tech head coach Mel Pearson.

"Back as well will be guest speaker Mathew Bodie, a Winnipegger and member of the Union College hockey team that won the national title in 2014. Bodie, who was passed over in the NHL Draft, spent last season with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack after signing a one-year contract with the New York Rangers. In 75 games with Hartford last season, he scored five goals and added 27 assists."

"He's a great example. I don't think anybody predicted a whole lot for his hockey career when he was 15 but now look at where he is," said Snee. "He was the captain of a national championship team and he had a great year in the AHL last year and he's going back this year and he's doing it all with a college degree in his pocket. He is pursuing his hockey dreams and he's got the degree done; it's not something that he's either got to fit in over summer or do whenever he's done playing hockey."

Alex Sakellaropoulos/Jake Kupsky/Joe Young, Union

The Dutchmen will have some their work cut out for them, figuring out what the situation in the crease will be. Sakellaropoulos saw some ice time with mixed resulted last season. Kupsky comes in from the NAHL after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks. Young looks like the longshot to be the starter, but he had a solid year with the Junior Flyers in the USPHL.
