Union College: 2015-2016

Re: Union College: 2015-2016

Hynes=winner
On and office and few work harder

Appreciate that. They all are great kids ... including this year's seniors. I had a chance to hear our President (Union) and his wife in Boston last night talk about the school. Had a great alumni turnout. He talked a lot about the hockey banquet which he had just attended and detailed the remarkable accomplishments on and off the ice of our five seniors, Fullbright, Goldwater and Truman Scholarships, defending thesis presentations, tremendous community projects, remarkable kids. Those seniors are great assets to the school and to the ECAC. Its tough listening to some non-athletic townie puke trash them and pretend he knows something about athleticism and hockey.

"Future is bright for men’s ice hockey"
By Robert Rizos - May 12, 2016

The class of 2020 recruiting class shows great potential for future success. (Anna Klug I Concordiensis)

The Dutchmen, who finished 9th in the ECAC last year, are looking forward to building off of an up-and-down 2015-16 campaign with the addition of nine promising recruits.

As a team that finished 8th in scoring in the ECAC last year, Union is in need of a definite boost to the offense to compete in a conference that finished last season with eight teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation.

One more time - Next Year ..... starting with returning players

1 Foo - Vecchione - Supinski
2 Walker - Scarfo - Maier
3 Dufour - Litchenwald - Vidmar
4 Ammirato - Taylor - Pontarelli

5 Hynes

1 Bassard - Light
2 Cambell - Taylor
3 Krug - DeSimone

Sak
Kupsky
Young

--------------------------------------------
Freshmen -

Brown - F
Rinaldi - F
Burton - F
Harrison - F
Newhouse - D
Vas Kulias - D

On paper, this is a stronger team than last year.

Re: Union College: 2015-2016

Next year (2016-2107) it looks like we have one of the more aggressive NC schedules in the ECAC. I am assuming that 9 of our 12 NC will include:

Michigan(2)
N. Dakota
B.U.
Niagra - top AHA
RIT - top AHA
Umass Amherst
Vermont

RPI will be #9. I am not sure who the other three will be. Perhaps a tournament. Looking at the other ECAC teams it appears that many have scheduled UML this year. Last year it looked like Merrimack had lots of ECAC NC foes.

Not sure what to expect for the ECAC this year non-conference wise. The non- ivy's can help by getting some wins early.

Clarkson has a tough Non-Conf Schedule and with no AHA teams unless they meet Holy Cross in the ND Tourney might be a tad more difficult than Unions.

vs. Vermont
@ Vermont
vs. UNH
vs. Merrimack
@ UMass-Lowell
@ Providence
vs. Wisconsin
vs. Minnesota
Notre Dame tournament (vs. Notre Dame, play winner/loser of Yale and Holy Cross)
@ Northeastern
vs. RPI in Lake Placid

So next year's season lasts 91 years?

Re: Union College: 2015-2016

RPI NC opponents

Home: Niagara, RIT, UMass Lowell, Ohio State (2)

Away: Maine (2), North Dakota, UNH, Arizona State (2)

Union (Albany), Clarkson (Lake Placid)

Re: Union College: 2015-2016

Picky, Picky ..... so how does RPI's NC schedule look? If memory serves me last year you had a tough one.

You could always take a look at the schedules thread; you'd be able to see everyone in the ECAC, as I know there was a bit of a following for it last year.

Re: Union College: 2015-2016

Chris Heisenberg's List (2016) shows Zachary Emelifeonwu-LW coming this year. Does that make sense? Is this a typo? Will he be coming in 2017? Elite Prospects does have him listed as 2017 http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=213260
He will turn 20 next Fall so he doesn't have to come this year, but it would not be a big surprise if he did. This would make 5 incoming to replace 4 graduating forwards, but that also would not be a surprise. Bottom line is we won't know until the announcement is made of next year's class. You can't go by the web lists too much as they are notoriously inaccurate. Subjectively, it looks like Zach could use another year of seasoning to work on his offensive skills. Otherwise fits the mold of the raw skilled, power-forward type that Bennett & company seem to like - even if most of them don't seem to pan out on the offensive they still can be useful role players.

Re: Union College: 2015-2016

Could be this year. Ammarito has left & is now listed on the Utica Pioneers roster (D-3)..... http://www.d3hockey.com/commitments/2016/ECACW

Very interesting .... thanks !!!

If it happens, looks like a net plus. Sorry to see Ammarito leave. With the incoming talent, the writing might have been on the wall. Would love to see the "Big Boys" Maier, Dufour, Litchenwald and Vidmar step up and have a great year. Going to be a lot of competition for those forward positions next year.

Was wondering if something like that might happen.. not a huge surprise, as Ammirato was looking like an odd man out next season. I wish him well, as he has talent and hopefully can find success at the D-3 level. Zach-E makes sense as a replacement, since he is the oldest of the forward recruits that were not expected to be coming.

Re: Union College: 2015-2016

The schedule is out. Union will play 14 of its 34 games at Messa, its fewest at home since 2011-12. That does not bother me. Some years we are a better road team than home team. I believe our ice sheet tends to negate any speed advantage we have.

North Dakota - NCHC
Michigan (2) - Big10

BU - HE
VT (2) - HE

AI - AHA
SH - AHA
RIT - AHA
Niagra - AHA
HC - AHA

Tournament - RPI

5 AHA matchups .... that's a change. Only the Mayors Cup for tournament play.

Six seniors
- Krug
- Taylor *
- Eli *
- Pontarelli *
- Vecch *
- Sak

* started and played on National Championship Team.
