UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

So who is going to be there tomorrow night? I should be traveling and hope to keep my streak alive.

See you there! I wondered if you'd venture over the border on a school night;)

And your streak needs to be broken!

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

So today at Lake Whitt, UNH played like they just might be turning the page....showing signs of some systematic play, they scored a third as many goals as they have this season....skating as hard as they have all year, today's difference had some of the lines getting in synch, with some nice play making on the pp, as well as having bodies where they need to be for rebounds and bounces....when was the last time a defenseman scored a short handed goal, being the third man in! So sure we got some bounces finally but we all know you make your breaks, and today UNH skated well enough to bring home the W.....btw, not that she cares in the least, but I believe Jonna Curtis had the hat trick today while being credited for just one goal....I'm anxious to check the highlight reel.....well done Cats!!

Wilkes Honored as Women's Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week

Nov 10, 2014
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore goaltender Ashley Wilkes (North Pole, Alaska) of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team was named Women's Hockey East Association Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Wilkes stopped 21 of 22 shots for a .955 save percentage that backboned UNH to its first league win, a 5-1 victory against the University of Vermont at the Whittemore Center on Saturday, Nov. 8. Wilkes shut out the Catamounts in both the second and third periods with seven saves in both stanzas. She held UVM scoreless the final 50:23 of the game on 18 saves, and the only goal against came on a UVM power play.

In two games (both starts) this season, Wilkes has a 1-1-0 record with a 2.02 GAA and .922 save percentage.

This is the second career award for Wilkes, who received the same accolade last November.

New Hampshire returns to action this weekend with a home-and-home series against top-ranked Boston College. The teams face off Saturday, Nov. 15 at Conte Forum and conclude the season series Nov. 16 at the Whittemore Center. Both games begin at 2 p.m.

HOCKEY EAST WEEKLY TOP PERFORMERS

Jonna Curtis, UNH (So., F; Elk River, Minnesota) Posted career-high three-point outing (1g, 2a) in helping UNH to its first Hockey East win over Vermont, 5-1.

Julia Fedeski, UNH (Fr., D; Algonquin Highlands, Ontario) Notched two points, including the short-handed game-winning tally, in the Wildcats' first league win.

I personally thought Fedeski had Rookie of the Week locked, but she got it in my mind with a a game winning goal, and an assist. Her game winner was a shorty, which you don't see all too often on a defenseman's list of accomplishments.

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

Back during the 2011/12 season, we had a 2 game series vs #1 Minnesota at Lake Whitt....Saturday's game was a total debacle! Much like today's game, then it was 11-0......anyone who has played sports has had a shellacking.....they obviously suck, but sometimes are valuable if we learn from them....back then, the next day's game was also a loss, but much more competitive at 6-1, with Raty playing her normal excellent game.....so for now, it comes down to seeing how we respond...that's the key!! More shots on goal, better scoring chances, smart heads up play rather then emotions dictating revenge.....I have to work but we'll see if the game becomes paramount by then....:)

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

So how does one measure improvement within 22 hours? If doubling your shots on goal and losing by half as many goals counts as making improvements, than UNH held their own today vs. BC. Keeping in mind that Vilgrain's scratch disrupted some lines again, and that Jesse Ryan was absent on the D-side, may have had some effect, however also under consideration by some observers was the lack of intensity from BC.....I wasn't at the game but watched while at work so my observations don't count....still the team played hard, as they have all season, so we remain Wildcat Faithful, believing that the team will make strides and find themselves.....

you have every right to believe that UNH will improve. it was like day and night...yesterday to today. as little effort shown yesterday there was as much effort today. whoever told you that BC played with a lack of intensity was wrong and will only tarnish UNH's effort. I thought they both played great.

it's only a matter of time before Coach Witt has them winning consistently again.

great campus by the way.

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

I'm thinking that this team could really use Crossley and Mams on the blue line.

Can I just mention how strongly I'm rooting for the Wildcats today? At least two goals please.

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

I have very limited knowledge of these kids. With that said, I like to think I can spot talent, and I'll be the first to throw down the prediction that Brooke Avery will be an impact player for UNH for years to come. Schlagel is big, solid and can skate on the defenseive end as well.

Hmmm.... I read this back when you posted it and let it go by and thought we'd see how Avery did. I had the opportunity to watch her play for many years at Assabet and always thought that the expectations for her were greater than her delivered performance - I hear that some of the Assabet coaches felt similarly but that the program director felt strongly about her potential. That being said, in her final year on the Assabet U19 team she was a significant factor so I thought this might play out at UNH. It doesn't appear to be to date unfortunately - no points in 14 games and she is now either injured or benched for the last 3 games. She looks like she should be productive but simply isn't against strong competition. It's perplexing - can't really figure it out but it has confounded better hockey minds than mine. She is a skilled player.

And I thought Massachusetts was a pathetic state. New Hampshire is brutal. What a shame a man's career and reputation are ruined by one "special" player.

So is the "special" player still with the team?
