UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

Recent developments in former UNH women's hockey coach case ........

In unrelated news on the same topic, it was in the news today in Toronto that the Leaside Girls Hockey Association ( an area within Toronto which has both house league and competitive teams through to the PWHL top level), has instituted a new rule prohibiting any physical contact whatsoever between coaching staffs and players, including pats on the head or back. This follows an "incident" where a staff member slapped a player on the rear at the end of a shift.

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

Big weekend up at Gutterson for the Wildcats....with 2 weekends left, it's possible, although very tough and needing help, that the surging Wildcats could find home ice! Given the current that UNH started the year swimming against, it is remarkable that they're in such a position! As always, let's see how the games play out, but I just wanted to make sure that folks here on the threads are aware of what's going on......I enjoy reading of the playoff contenders, but as I've always prescribed too, it's the journey, not just the end result.....this year has been a nice beginning to that journey!!
C'mon Wildcats.....

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

Time to bring UNH back onto the front page people! Last weekend, if you watched the 2 games that NU won at Mathews, you knew that the Huskies were the better team, however if not for Desjardins effort and no bounces for UNH, a sweep wouldn't have occurred....so tonight, as UNH tightened up its D-zone considerably, passed the puck smartly and as always, played with Much grit and heart, UNH came away with a well earned 2-1 win to go a game up in the 2/3 playoff format! Again this weekend, UNH had Ashley Wilkes in the nets, and she was magnificent...not in making the flashy saves but in making all the ones she should've! She was solid in her positioning and totally frustrated the Huskies! So a great team victory for the Wildcats tonight! Of course, in previous years, the win tonight would've been enough but with the new format, we'll see if UNH can replicate it's efforts.....and maybe get some puck luck this weekend! Go Cats.....

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

Well I asked for some puck luck for UNH and they got it...but then again so did the Huskies! While it seemed at times that both goalies had a sort of force field across their goals, the teams played an even up and down game, with many open nets missed, yet also a lot of diving and blocking to keep the game square at 1-1 going into the last 5 minutes....then as always seems the case for natural scorers, Coyne put the puck past Wilkes by throwing the puck towards net and having it go off a UNH skate....within the minute, Sara Carlson rushed the puck from her own zone, circled the net and found Caroline Broderick alone in the slot for a one-timer to tie it back up....(huge kudos to Broderick as she chose a great time to score her first 2 goals of the season)...and again, within the next minute, Coyne rushed up ice beating the UNH D, but was stopped by Wilkes this time, sliding the right pad across.....as the UNH defense tried to help Wilkes tie up the puck by freezing it against her pad, Coyne, who could've skated out of the play, reached back to keep the puck alive for Krizova coming in late to poke it home for the winner! IMHO, everyone involved in the play did what they should, but a great heads-up play by Coyne made the difference....
So now we get to enjoy another great contest tomorrow as the teams play for a trip to the Cape....whomever can recover their legs fastest, play with confidence and patience, and yes get that coveted puck luck will get to play BU next weekend!

Tough 4-3 loss to NU today in the pivotal game 3 :( Still, I like this team's grit and determination. There's a lot to build on in the coming seasons. Great job ladies!!

Re: UNH Women's Hockey 2014 - 2015 Looking FORWARD to the game~

As UNH closes in on its 40th year for the women's program, if you look back at it's amazing history, their have only been 5 years, including it's current season, where the team ended up under .500!
Everyone knew that given the recent upheaval that occurred, it was going to be an uphill season to say the least....with a new Coach and 10 new players in the locker room, the year would prove to be long. Thankfully for all of the Wildcat faithful that proved to be the case!
As UNH battled Northeastern today to see who would continue their season, it was a totally different squad on the ice than began the season! Yes, the saying goes that "a freshman is no longer a freshman after the years played out", but if you watched the 3 game series, you saw more than the teams signature hard play, grit, and determination.....they played together, with strong positional play, and skated even with all but Northeastern's Patty Kazmaier Award Nominee, US Olympian Kendall Coyne! She was amazing! Any hockey fan enjoys watching her talented play, except when she ends your teams season! Of course the Northeastern team beat UNH, but with her hat trick, she proved that playing 3 games in 3 days meant nothing to her! She still had her speed and shot...
So as UNH closes out this transitional year, again one of only 5 in it's history with such a record, many Wildcat fans can see a very bright future once again....thanks Wildcats for an interesting journey!
