UNH Wildcats 2016 Offseason Thread - Searching for Direction

Re: UNH Wildcats 2016 Offseason Thread - Searching for Direction

Curious if UNH was in the hunt for Robbie B who chose AZ State. Not that it matters at this point and really can't blame him for wanting to play hockey out there. On another note, did any of you STH's do the survey sent out from athletics? We do plan on renewing this season but honestly I was hard pressed to come up with a ton of "benefits of being a STH" other than having seat selection and of course, just to support the team. I mean, throw in a couple of food vouchers and let me pick my own seats at the Verizon games, etc... Hopefully there will be some decent bennies for STH's that come out of that survey...but guess that remains to be seen. Also curious to see if the prices for said tix will be less than last season. hmmm....Go Pens!?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2016 Offseason Thread - Searching for Direction

Last week marked the one year anniversary for Marty Scarani's bold succession plan.

Random observations. UMass has hit the ground running with a plan, cutting loose many underperforming recruits, attracting previously committed recruits who want to follow and join the new coach, and locking up the top kids who were committed to UMass and who are excited by the new coach.

Wisconsin's new coaching staff has cut loose a ton of flotsam filler that Eaves recruited. They saw holes in the immediate roster and got a late commitment from the us national program (Greenway) and because the North American market had been scooped clean, brought in a Swedish defenseman. They are now in month three and sending the message that they are pursuing top end kids and not mid-level fillers.

And speaking of alacrity in addressing immediate needs, Robbie Baillargeon from BU - eligible immediately as a senior - has chosen to be a top 6 forward for Arizona State.
Now listen, those rounds of golf over at Pease aren't going to play themselves you know.

Really, hockey, hockey, hockey, that's all you seem to think they should be focused on, and right at the beginning of beach season, don't you know what the inside of a hockey rink does to a tan? Come on now, let's get serious, there'll be plenty of time for hockey once turtleneck season hits.

Yes -- did the "Survey Monkey" thing, which is amazingly appropriate, considering the source of the request!

My selection of upgraded perks was limited to narration in "other". First, not renewing tix. Secondly, GIVE ME A PRODUCT THAT IS WORTH WATCHING AND CARING ABOUT. Not interested in this smoke-and-mirrors-feel-good-crap about free hot dogs or hanging out in the Cat Zone (or whateverthehell they call it...) It actually feels like an apology from them (or should be...)!

Told them when the product improves, I'll re-up season tix; until then, I can get cheaper/game tix at the gate.

And lastly in the rant, begged them to dump that goofy, nascar souvenir jersey font they "invented" in 2000(?), and go back to the classy, traditional, "we got some history here!" font that should epitomize this program. Yes, I remember well the big, national, marketing campaign (like, we're Red Sox Nation??!!). What a joke.

Would be interested in reading the results of said survey; and also, just how many STH will not be renewing this year. Doubt if there will be any opportunity to see those and I hope people do fill out the form (as stark as it was to really give any real feedback) And like you it bugs me too that you can get in for so much less and heck, sit wherever. Not sure if we are renewing both tix...that remains to be seen...Anyone got the inside scoop on what's it gonna cost this season?

That can't happen soon enough. Hated it when they changed, even BC saw the error of their ways, but here we are 15 or so years later, clinging onto the same stupid mistake. Typical UNH.

My guess is Souza brings them back when he moves into the top job. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think he never wore the jerseys with the current fonts. Let's pick up where he left off in his playing career then. :)

Otherwise, EJ's sarcasm is in midseason form :D And "Shrink-The-Rink" is the least of our worries.

That's right, now that we have our Jumbotron, time find donors to shrink the rink to a normal width.

I did the survey as soon as it hit my inbox. One of the first observations was Sunday and weekday start times, there should have been an option for no games on those days. I know its a scheduling thing there has to be some but there should be full options.

As for the benefits of being a STH, my answer was short and said nothing. Even getting my current seats (4x ugh) really is not a big deal to me. I would rather do the 4 for $44 and then just watch for good seats in the vacant building. As some mentioned, the on ice product is what matters to be. I prefer to watch a good team play or let's start with one that is close to competitive. I rarely buy anything at the Whit ($$$) so food/merchandise does not matter.

One thing I mentioned as a benefit is parking. The alumni lot is 3/4 empty now. How about giving those spaces away to ticket holders or even for a nominal charge, not the $100+ they get now.

Me too and said that the Alumni Center should be a STH option even if it was once, twice a year (not sure of how many can fit there) it does irk me to walk through it ...agree with all that has been said regarding this. For anyone who doesn't like the tron stuff you can bet there will be more of it this season..hope we don't turn into (and we aren't that far off now) an arena that constantly blares music that is TOO LOUD (you know who you are :p). Me personally that doesn't bother me too much unless it is on the excessive side. I know I am in the minority here on this but get it too what others are saying about it (Libra in me). Have a good weekend folks off to see Ringo Starr and his band which has my 70's fav Todd Rundgren playing in it! Hello, it's me. (wicked dating myself ;))

Looks like 4 v 4 OT this season...

NCAA Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Rules Committee approves 4-on-4 overtime for 2016-17:

Awesome. Another OOC patsy to help Coach with his "Pub Crawl to 600" campaign.

Ha, ha, ha! Brown just released their schedule, with the Cats visiting their barn on January 7th. Next thing you know, the Cats will be hosting AIC or Bentley again; or maybe Sacred Heart? Trivia question: who is Sacred Heart's AD? Be careful what you wish for.

Awesome! I am sure that if we had this rule last year, we would have won all 10 of our OTs, especially the four on our big sheet at Lake Whitt. Instead, we were 0-4-6 in OTs.

EDIT: Cats were 0-4-6, not 0-2-8 in OTs; 0-2-3 at home and 0-2-3 away.

Wow..didn't know it was that bad (all those ties...had forgotten) ...you are right tho..I think we would've ended up on the other side of things with this rule. Not that we were that speedy mind you, but had the talent (Pots, TyK) to put it in the net. Speculation, who would be our top 4 we'd put out there this year? My amateur guess: TyK, Vela, Eiserman, Cleland.

WE DO HAVE SOME NCAA PARTICIPANTS AND FINALISTS .....

I watched the semifinals and it is great to see UNH Athletes on ESPN. Watch it .... you will enjoy it ........

Saturday Night Live: Purrier, Donegan Back on ESPN

Friday was a transition day, a chance for pool recovery time, an opportunity to get some laundry done and then turn towards preparation for the NCAA 3,000-meter steeplechase finals Saturday evening.

UNH sophomore Elinor Purrier of Montgomery, Vt., and senior Laura Rose Donegan of Melbourne, Australia, raced impressively to All American honors on Thursday night at historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

They are back to where they finished the season last year and Saturday compete in the finals of the steeplechase. Their events starts at 6:54 Eastern and will be televised live on ESPN.

I'm half-expecting an appearance by the Oyster River Bobcats on the '16/'17 UNH schedule at this rate.
