UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Chairs?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Good for TvR; I think that he may get lots more ice time in the future with Oduya and maybe Seabrook leaving.

I will be fine with the Cats top two lines and PP this coming season if they consist of TK, sophomores, and freshmen. Captains and co-captains can lead from the third and fourth lines.

Love to see Oduya with the B's but doubt seriously that will happen! The 'twitterverse' is talking about him getting resigned with the 'Hawks if they can swing it...Looking forward to what will shake out for the 'Cats this season; hope it doesn't take too long to establish a workable top line and PP...talent is def there..It's really great that many of our forwards, Eiserman (Yzerman?), Fogele, Poturalski and future Dman Nonis (sooner than later? ;) ) all did dev. camps this summer...that can only help them grow as players...

DU GOT 2 years extended to make a total of 3 left. MS takes over in year 4 in writing

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Cavanaugh is protecting Souza from UNH reneging on their word.

A. Exactly how is Cavanaugh protecting Souza with respect to some future action that may or may not occur?

B. What word? Has Umile or UNH declared that Souza is the head-coach-in-waiting?

Cavanaugh is the only one making the assertion. What's he going to do in a few years if it doesn't come to pass, complain that they didn't follow through on something only he claims occurred?

Bomber seems obvious/potentially you have, shall we say, an 'inside track' into the goings on at 125 Main..will this be made official at some point; you know, like a news release? (not that there have been that many coming out of there to date! ;) )

Aerman on your point B below...exactly what I am thinking...

How does one get a 2 year extension on a lifetime contract. :-)
Truly a remarkable accomplishment. Especially when you have only won three HE crowns in a quarter of a century.

Nope, only Supreme Court appointees for life; looks like DU28+2. Besides three HE trophies, also four visits to FF and two NC games. If TK and recent recruits bring home the goods next year (2016-2017), perhaps it will be DU28+1?

I was asking myself that one too. Coach must have some pretty impressive friends in very high places. :)

Listen guys ... I know I was away for awhile, but I can only remember two.

Must be why it's taking so long. HR has to post a head coach in waiting job description.

Either that, or it will take some time to fit that on Souza's business cards.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Only time to be "afraid" is if you *play* against them in fantasy hockey. Soft-Whiner-Overrated more like it.

Happy Fourth of July weekend, everyone. Hoping for a Mike Souza appearance sometime soon. :)

How do you figure Malkin is overrated? 702 points in 587 games. Second among active players in PPG at 1.196 (Crosby first at 1.360). Now if you were to say Kessel was overrated that is something I could agree to.

According to the website (unhwildcats.com) it's two:

2001-02 4-0-0 Hockey East Champions
2002-03 4-0-0 Hockey East Champions

And..they really need to update it as 13-14 and 14-15 are not listed...FWIW dept (and esp. these two years as we battled hard to get to that point..just sayin'.)

Guess I tried to make it look good by adding in Holt's one ECAC championship 36 years ago.

IIRC ... UNH carries the '79 ECAC tourney title on their HE tourney title banner at The Whitt.

Suppose it's better that way than carrying a separate banner, but I'd rather they leave it off altogether.

UNH has a little of the B's in them, for sure ... too many banners for too few accomplishments. At least with the B's, you can understand the embarrassment of being the landlord, yet only second best (by a wide margin, too) in their own building. But I'm not sure either of those teams/programs take a back seat to the Patriots' 2007 undefeated regular season banner ...

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Anybody catch TNR the other morning when they were nominating songs that should be forever banned from arenas/stadiums? There were a couple Whitt staples on there. But relax everyone, Black Betty DIDN'T make the list. Although I thought it amusing that Flynn considered Cotton Eye Joe the Hillbilly version of Black Betty. (Hope Nick was listening for that:D) With that in mind I was thinking that perhaps the powers that be can put that there fancy new jumbletron to good use when they play CEJ and show the confederate flag waving as the song plays?

On a more serious note, I totally agree that the Gary Glitter song HAS to go, though the results of the vote don't support my opinion. How many frauds are there in arenas and stadiums all across the land who (rightly) condemn Jerry Sandusky, yet clap their hands and sing along to Rock and Roll Part Two?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Saw this posted over on the BC thread:
I was browsing through books at the Barnes & Noble in Burlington last night. I found a recently published book titled "Tales from the Boston College Hockey Locker Room" (at least, I think it's a recent publication). I must admit, it's a good read. Entertaining and informative. Especially informative regarding the recruiting that ignited the BC revival during the mid to late '90's. Also, real good stuff on The Snooker. A little light, perhaps, on the Cedorchuk to Milbury to JY transition.

Hey Chuck, how about penning the UNH edition of this series?

RE: Cavanaugh. Rookie mistake by a rookie coach.
Clearly likes and expresses support for his former assistant... gets thrown under the bus by some folks.
It's the reason most coach's lips are zipped regarding all subjects. Cavanaugh will learn to zip them up as well.
Then those same folks will be complaining about their 'right to know'.

To be fair, this is probably the most balanced assessment I've seen of the *situation* from an outside poster so far. Kudos for admitting he overstepped his boundaries. Having said that, as to the points raised in his defense:

* Cavanaugh isn't your typical "rookie" coach - high profile assistant at a high profile program for two decades;
* His lips have been "zipped" for all that time by Coach York (and apparently for very good reasons). Now he is free to "flap" them in public at his leisure, and he seems intent upon making up for lost time;
* This behavior is all too typical of the dink-ish behavior he's displayed behind the scenes for many years.

In the end ... with a guy like Cavanaugh, it's all about him. Mark my words, give him a couple more years of BC not winning another D-1 championship, and he will be starting the whispering campaign about how "hey, ever notice how Coach York hasn't won it all since Coach Cavanaugh left town?" He probably thinks he's the Belichick to York's Parcells. Even in today's bit about hiring Brendan Buckley he's yapping about UConn's future as a "national champion". Hey, howsabout you first establish UConn as a legit D-1 Hockey East program before moving on to the coronation?? Listen, ambition is good ... but blind ambition without the portfolio is foolhardy, and you make yourself look like an ***** in the process. At this rate, UConn will be eclipsing both NICC and (*gulp*) his former employer as teams I simply cannot bring myself to root for. And THAT would be quite the *accomplishment*, but this guy's wings badly need some clipping.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program ...

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Posturing and grandstanding is more like it. He's had WAY too much to say on someone else's personnel decision, and any idea that he is "protecting" Souza - who is returning to his alma mater to work for a coach who he played four (4) years for - is truly "astounding" in comedic value only. If Cavanaugh had any real interest in protecting anyone but himself, he'd have kept his thoughts on the subject to himself long ago. Or at least between himself and Coach Umile. Like it happens in 99.9% of other situations. Instead he goes running to his media mouthpiece before UNH even completes its process and officially announces the hire. "Refreshing"?? Please ... Classless is more like it, now that I think of it.

Spin it as you wish. You are way off on your "self-interest" claim, but that's fine. Live free, or pass ill-conceived judgement upon people, or die.

Congratulations Chuck...you will join a LONG line of opposing teams fans that hate a UCONN team and it's head coach.
