Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha
Let's not sell them short.
You know, U.Conn aspiring to excellence and selling a fast rise is half the selling battle. (To repeat what I've said the last 10 years and where UNH has slipped and lost as a selling point). I want Souza to sell the hell out of that when he finally gets annointed by the godfather as worthy of taking over.
It seems to be working. U.Conn just beat BC and other HE teams (presumably UNH, too) to one of the top 2000s, Drew Elser, who played on a line with UNH's Joel Farabee last year. As this was right in UNH's wheelhouse, needing the 2018 class to replace the big class of freshmen, I can only conclude Cavanagh's goal of winning HE is more realistic than other schools'.
UNH's top Defensive recruit just fell into their laps. And two of the three of U.Conn's other defense recruits are better than any UNH D recruit. Wisocky is above a decent number of UNH forward recruits.
I can only hope Souza was a big factor in U.Conn getting those kids.
We all knew a shuffle was happening, and one of the benefits that I talked about was UNH making its transition before other programs in order to get a jump start. We now have BU, U.Conn, Providence making their moves, so by the time UNH's change happens in 3 years, it could be a tiny ripple already behind the other programs. That challenge will be even more unless Souza can start selling the 2000s (2018 recruits) on being part of the UNH jump-start. I tell myself that Souza was the selling point for U.Conn for Elser, Mayer, Wisocky and Karashki, and that he is merely abiding by the promise not to poach U.Conn recruits, and that is why Elser didn't follow Souza. Right?
