If the TNH twitter information is even close to true, we are likely days (or even minutes) from DeSmith being suspended from the team and school indefinitely... and likely the end of his UNH career forever (and deservedly so, if the allegations are true).

So disappointing. I really liked Casey's on ice demeanor, thought it was great to have a NH native starting in net for 3+ years, am adjusting to the appropriate reality of his never playing for UNH again.

and Nick? That was funny. Too soon, but funny.

It is very close to the account given by the victim to the PD.

Disappointing news to say the least.

In search of the "silver lining" to this latest development ... I guess if you're going to have to endure a rebuilding year, you might as well go whole hog on it. Hope no one was planning to see any March hockey at The Whitt this season.

For our BC *friends* who may be visiting this thread in the near future ... the over/under line for UNH wins before Winter Break this year is 4.5 (out of 17 games). And I'm leaning hard towards the under. It was always going to be a challenging start to the season, but wow, it just got a whole lot more challenging.

Don't see any way back for the assailant. He'll be lucky to stay in school at this point, much less the program. What some kids would give for his opportunity ... and he just went and ******ed it all away.

Sad, as he seemed like the kind of kid you could root for: All-academic team student, local kid.

If true, and all indications are that it is true, then he is done. And he should be. Given my hope this is not true, I'd be curious about the bruises on his face, but I suspect those are likely from the "resisting" arrest.

And three far secondary thoughts.
Danny Tirone. Too late to get him into school?

When I was at the U, the in-state goalie regularly smacked his girlfriend, Bonnie, around. Glad we're more sensitive to the issue today.

Agreed, Chuck. And Forget hockey.... This kid's whole life trajectory just changed. Really stupid/sad.

Hope the victim is well-protected by the administration. Retaliation in these cases can be brutal.

If all of this is true, (and I hate what I'm about to say), the faster this POS gets out of Durham, the happier I'll be. Just a disgusting, gutless crime.

Yowser, go away for 12 hours, and return to this awful news. I feel much worse for DeSmith, his victim, and all their friends and family than I do for the team. Very sad situation.

I am old enough to remember when freshmen did not play on Div 1 teams, but now UNH freshmen will be getting a lot of ice time at every position this season.
 
Having been the arresting officer on this type of stuff in the past, I have seen it both ways, remember innocent until proven guilty. It doesn't sound good but I believe in the process. We have only heard one little piece (really ****ing).

I personally hate that this stuff is tried in the press, and it is a race to tweet instead of getting more details. I am honestly not sure my opinions on the practice of suspension based on accusation. There is a long way from arrest to conviction.

Sorry soap box.

On the other end heighten awareness and lower tolerance for domestic violence is a good thing.

+1. Not to countenance any of the alleged acts but, so far, we've heard only one side of the story.
