Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

It is very close to the account given by the victim to the PD.

Kudos to you GoUNH. I feel like I am the only one on this forum not surprised to read about DeSmith in yesterday's newspaper, since you had posted about the incident a day or two earlier. I'm sure you had your reasons for taking the post down. But you definitely had the scoop before Fosters of TNH did.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

Completely agree. He has been charged with two MISDEMEANORS. Obviously not good ones but he has not been charged with felonies. Why is he suspended from school? I know plenty of people from when I went there who were charged with MISDEMEANORS (simple assault and resisting arrest included) and never got suspended/expelled. Absurd. This happened off campus. Not the school's business (athletic department not included) IMO. As for the hockey team, if they want to revoke his athletic eligibility/scholarship I'm sure they have the right. Otherwise why throw him out of school? He will pay the legal consequences in court if found guilty. Why is that not enough? Let's not deny a kid who made a mistake (and it looks like a good one) an education. How will that help him down the road?

Jesus. H. Christ.

Get your head out of the gutter. He's a UNH student athlete. More than a regular student, he represents the university. UNH has a student code of conduct and jurisdiction is not just for on campus areas:

Generally, University jurisdiction and discipline shall be limited to conduct which occurs on University premises or at activities pursued under the auspices of the University which adversely affects the Univer*sity Community and/or the pursuit of its objectives.

Notable rules and regulations from the UNH student code of conduct:

C. Conduct Rules and Regulations

Any student found to have committed the following misconduct is subject to the disciplinary sanctions outlined in Article IV:

3. Conduct which results in:

a. Physical harm,

b. Threatening or endangering the health or safety of any person;

f. Unwelcome physical contact.

13. Failure to comply with directions of University officials or law enforce*ment officers acting in performance of their duties and/or failure to iden*tify one-self to these persons when requested to do so.

If you're a student at UNH, I would suggest you brush up on this (even though it seems like common sense, it's apparently not that common).

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

I saw the post early yesterday morning I guess and then later when I checked back it was gone. Checked the news outlets and couldn't find anything and figured it was either a hoax or a premature breach of privacy since it was not yet public. In any event, not a complete surprise but it is very disappointing to say the least. Not passing judgement until more facts come out.

punching a female student, spitting on her than haing to be wresteled to the ground during arrest??
absurd to think he should be walking around campus when she is a student there. If cleared he can go back and get degree.
He is in this mess because of his actions and a semester off while cleaning it up wont kill him. She is the concern and focus, not him.
It doesn't matter or change anything, but for accuracy, as of last semester the campus buzz was that his girl friend was not a UNH student.

He has been charged with two MISDEMEANORS.

It is not hard to upgrade these to felonies. Generally you don't get arrested on the spot for felonies unless the officer sees it happen. Not saying they will upgrade saying they can.

Thanks, JB, for that insight. I was wondering about that. Is it a matter of severity, or intent, or what?

In assault it is severity. Felonies are major crimes and are done via indictments. There are some odd rules about arrests without warrants for misdemeanors and then domestic violence rules add some must arrest twists. I have been out more than a decade so I would have to look it all up again.

Might come down to the definition of "serious", to JB's point about severity.

Probably end up being easier than defining what the meaning of the word 'is', is.

President Clinton, you have a call on line 2....

I've known since Monday morning. CHC suggested I take it down to respect the privacy of both parties involved, and I agreed. These things seem to take on a life of its own with the peanut gallery and I don't want to contribute to that.

I think this is a long time from being resolved. With that said, we have a freshman (stats from last season are not impressive) and a traditional 3rd goalie. Does anyone know if it is too late to get Tirone in this season? 19/20 years old, I am sure he is ready.

.......along with a very inexperienced group of D-men in front of the net.

Good thing you have the best coach in college hockey to help paper over the holes in the line-up. ;)

Ouch that hurts ;). Hey no one on this board is kidding themselves about the type of season we expect Casey or no Casey. Like it or not these are the cards on the table and I plan on making the most of it (famous last words). Drop the puck! We might just surprise ourselves...stranger things have happened :)

If DeSmith is not on the roster, the starting job, in all likelihood, is Adam Clark's to lose. An article on Clark will be posted soon on the blog. Also, wouldn't be surprised to see Danny Tirone enrolling early - possibly for the second semester. He was impressive in his rookie season with Cedar Rapids (USHL). Played in 2/3 of Rough Rider's regular season games and all 4 playoff games. The Rough Rider's backup goalie was Chris Birdsall, a BC recruit. At the end of the season, Cedar Rapids traded Birdsall to the Youngstown Phantoms. Obviously, Cedar Rapids is counting on Tirone being their starting goalie - as herbts20 exclaimed ;-). Tirone turned 20 in June. Adam Clark is 21 and 1/2.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

As much as I like Casey, was excited to see him play his senior season, wish for a do over/reset button and recognize that for a few games at a time he could be the best goalie in college hockey, his body of work at UNH is that of a very good, not yet great goaltender. Unfortunately he won't have this season to improve on that, but right now we're not talking Conklin, Matile, Ayers or Kevin Regan.

We have a month to prepare. Unlike the Digi situation there is no Senior being given time to (not) come out of his funk resulting in lost, in more than one way, games. Regan's pre-UNH statistics are decent and Clark? Well.... he's 6' 5" 220 lbs. Perhaps one shines early and is given the job or we have a healthy competitive rotation, always fun to watch.

Pesce is the real deal, Maller looked good last year, Cleland and Quast both improved as the season progressed. We'll need younger D-men, like last year Freshman not red shirted Sophomores, to step up, but when isn't that the case? Hopefully they progress quickly so we don't repeat last year's blue line playing time minute imbalance.

One of the news reports referenced Jamie being Kevin's younger brother. Is that true? Did their parents move to OH?
