UNH Wildcats 2014 Post-Season Thread: "Maybe Dick" Hunts the Great White Whale

Going to disagree with almost all of this. Not a single senior has graduated from BC since 1997 without going to a Frozen Four. That's pretty much a continued run without disruption. One rough .500 year due to 3 late summer departures by NHLers. 2003 was a good team that easily was FF material but of course they had to go to the NCAAs without another NHLer due to an unfortunate incident that wasn't the kid's fault. 2009 didn't have the guns but still battled to a +.500 record. 2011 was a wagon 1 seed that somehow got Umiliated by CC and easily could have and should have contended for the title. Last year probably the worst team of the bunch in my book with no real identity to speak of and still made the NCAAs as a 2 seed I think. No seasons under .500.

Basically most 2-3 year spans in that timeframe could match what most teams do in their entire program's history. Ahem.

And really in the modern era, it's a stretch to say it's been matched by other programs when you consider the totality of the titles, title game appearances, FFs, wins, conf titles, etc.

Cry me a river about all of your NHLers leaving early or whatever, on our thread even. It is this type of whining that prevents me from ever rooting for BC, under any circumstances. What does UNH have, two NHLers in the past decade?

On another note not a bad first week out for Kevin G: (from phantoms.com)

Saratoga Spine Player of the Week
Kevin Goumas is our Saratoga Spine Phantoms Player of the week. The newest addition to the Phantoms made quite the splash in his Glens Falls Civic Center debut with his first career professional goal on Saturday night in the third period to give the Phantoms the lead against Springfield. Then, to top it off, he added another in the shootout on a slick move in the second round. The speedy center from Long Beach, New York was signed as a free-agent by the Phantoms out of the University of New Hampshire just a few days earlier. Goumas scored 19 goals and 52 points in just 40 games with UNH this season. Welcome to the Phantoms, Kevin....and congratulations!

"Sterlippo's one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. He loves BC hockey, Hockey East (well, except for Notre Dame), and college hockey in general.

thank you for the nice words and not to form a mutual admiration society but UNH fans I'm sure know that they are very fortunate to have some one like you feeding them information. You are awesome. Anyway, other than my team, FWIW :)I root for the other HE teams in this order.

1. UNH
2. (tie) Northeastern-UML-Providence
3.Vermont
4.Merrimack
5.UMass Amherst

As for BU, Maine or ND, If any of them were playing The Taliban, I'm rooting for The Taliban:eek:

Echo your sentiments about C-H-C...he's a true, loyal fan who isn't afraid to call a spade a spade too! Have learned so much about UNH hockey from him. Not only that...he's a great guy to meet!! :D Think what's underneath some of these comments is the 'we are not in this' right now and that smarts alittle. Or a lot, over the past 10 years, for those who have seen the 'Cats come oh so close...In a perfect world we'd be supportive of all teams without being a jerk about it...some people...are jerks about it. You, Carmen, and a few others who come over here, aren't in that category. Those who ARE...you know who you are! Anyway...good luck to BC and to ALL the teams playing...I just want to see some great hockey!

For what it's worth, here are the current "tiers" of WIS approval for the other HE schools:

1. Northeastern (family ties, used to work summers there)
2. Providence (great town, good fans, babysitting our future coach ;) etc.)
3. UMaine and UVM (northern New England vibe, Walshy *just* edges it for UMO :D )
4. Merrimack and UMass Lowell (Merrimack Valley vibe, closest road trips)
5. BU (used to be #2, dropping rapidly with the departure of Coach Parker :( )
6. UMass Amherst and UConn (HE speedbumps - past present and future - stick to hoops)

666. BC and Notre Dame ... question: Is it worse to be the "real thing" or the wanna-be's???

The ultimate dilemma. I choose neither. But Coach York has proven his mettle over the years, which I respect. And BC sure does have some entertaining contributors on this site - past and present. Nothing personal, guys - strictly business. :)

Maybe because we are college hockey fans and we are in Hockey East and have a long time relationship with UNH hockey so maybe we are interested in what you guys say? Maybe that's why we read your thread?????

Why are you using so many question marks? Why are you using question marks to begin with? To be completely honest I don't think you are actually asking a question at all in your statement. Golly, I knew there was a reason Johnny Hockey and myself got accepted into BC but not UNH (The school we really fell in love with)

JvR notched his 30th goal against B's.

Trivia question (courtesy Josh Seguin/CHN): Has any UNH alum ever scored more than 30 goals in an NHL season?

Good to see all the love for Sterlippo. Should we make him an honorary member of Wildcat Nation? Lets vote on it. :)

Yes. Of course, I just read your tweet and know the answer. Let's see if anyone else gets it. :)

I got two:

Steve Leach 1991-92 Bruins 31 goals

Dave Lumley 1981-82 Oilers 32 goals

Yes, Sterlippo is a Genuine Good Guy, and a fan of college hockey in general, not just of BC. He is one of the exceptions to the rule about BC fans. He convinced me of this a few years ago.
