We had a player like Phil Kessel ;) . Actually no idea on the why he was traded etc...but when he comes to Boston there appears to be no love lost!! Quite the grinder, excellent skater. Bruins better buckle up tonight against the Habs! Sorry, this isn't a NHL board...Bummed I never got to see JvR in the Blue n White!

You are right, HR, but we hear plenty about the DRW here. I tried to tie in my post to UNH alums, but also should have mentioned Phil's little brother.

Oh hey Snively wasn't admonishing it was more for me! I'll talk hockey just 'bout anywhere! That's right Blake played for the 'cats and I believe that their little sis is quite the player as well!!! Read a tweet this week where UNH leads NHL players which is pretty cool if that's true!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Heading to the Dog House Saturday...any parking suggestions? We don't have time to take the T. Am looking around at area parking garages; hear it's kind of tight around Matthews. Feed back gratefully accepted!
I've never failed to find free street parking for Saturday NU home games, perhaps because I arrive early to dine at Pho & I http://www.phoandi.com/. Enjoy Matthews, the old school best. I am envious!

Indeed, Matthews always makes me nostalgic for Snively, too. Great history in the old Boston Arena.

Hard for me to believe that UNH leads the likes of of BC, Mich, Minn, Nodak, et al in NHL players, HR. There must be a current list somewhere?

Enjoy the student timeout ritual at Matthews as well.

I very much doubt that UNH leads those schools. Maybe in the leagues across the pond we do rank among the top.

Nevertheless, it was a joy to see Smith, Winnick and JVR all on the ice at the same time ..... onward.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Toronto GM Dave Nonis must really like what he see's from UNH. He traded for Van riemsdyk, then his son Nick Nonis committed to UNH. He brought in Trevor Smith, Dan Winnik, and also signed Blake Kessel and Eric Knodel to AHL contracts. Looks like UNH north! I wonder when Nonis trades for TVR to complete the NHL set ;)

Great post, J34. Many thanks!

We are trying to visit all of the nearby (within 3-4 hrs) this season so going to Matthews sounds like a real treat! Looking forward to the atmosphere sitting with other UNH fans this time around 😉. No utterances of Dog Pound here!

Not sure I've ever seen the word "grinder" associated with Kessel (at least in a positive way). I think that's a large part of the reason why he's not in Boston anymore. Ditto Seguin. Just not the kind of players that organization values.

Also seriously doubt UNH is anywhere near close to the top of the list of D-1 schools producing current (or past) NHL players, but it's nice to see a few out and about there nowadays. Can't hurt the recruiting efforts. :)

Great post, J34. Many thanks!

Looks like Mr. Nonis knows a good thing when he sees it! Be cool to see TvR up there playing with his brother like the Sedin brothers!! However early reports indicate Chicago is very happy with their rookie....he could stay awhile. On another note Trevor Smith just favorited a tweet I sent last night about the announcers and the UNH connection. Eye rolling can commence right about now 😉...

Well Chuck guess that's the way it looked to me as he ably skated past our D on more than one occasion last night but perhaps an incorrect term see I am still learnin' the hockey lingo having moved past knowing what a blue line is haha. Comic relief or pure disdain...you decide! I Swear I saw that tweet and it surprised me as well. Tried to find it but no luck. Could be in my delierium of being home sick yesterday with a bad cold I was delusional....I will refrain from future postings about such things.

Newsflash: since I retweet just about anything and everything about UNH Hockey (my followers just LOVE it haha) I found the tweet from College Hockey Inc that 14 NCAA teams would be repping in last nights game slate with UNH leading the way with 3. Sigh...

And, don't call the student section "the Dog Pound," which I did mistakenly a few years ago.

Just refer to them as the "Dog House" and everything will be copacetic.

The NU fans can be a sensitive bunch; an inferiority complex is very much part of the Husky DNA. And that's coming from someone who spent the best four summers of his youth working the grounds along Huntington Ave., including Boston (now Mathews) Arena - which BTW is still by far my favorite HE destination. Hope they never replace that barn. Total classic.

Given many family ties with the school, I'm always rooting for NU to do well (except against UNH), and they are my rooting interest at the Beanpot annually. The second year I ever attended the Beanpot (1980), we were sitting in the balcony of the Old Garden when Wayne Turner scored the game-winner to beat BC :) in overtime :) :) to win the school's first ever Beanpot. Funny thing ... NU never won the BP trophy before (and now after) the decade of the 1980's. Sort it, Huskies!! ;)

Excellent skater, no doubt ... "grinder" though is a term attached to a hard-working player who isn't afraid to mix it up in the corners or out in front, despite limited offensive skills (sound familiar UNH fans?). Not something that's been synonymous with Kessel, at least not up until this stage of his career. Kessel is arguably the "anti-grinder". ;)

Appreciate the education! Smiley face.

Wonder if the UNH pep band will play "How Much is that Doggie in the Window" if/when NU gets a penalty like they did last year? Thinking this year's Bean Pot could look very different the resurgence of BU and Harvard coming on strong. Predictions for the weekend?

Agree with much of your sentiment Chuck...but...NU has become much tougher to cheer for after its last couple of choices for head coach
