Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

Comfortable having a first line of Foegele-Kelleher-Poturalski the next three years.

Absolutely!

And for Chuck, I stumbled upon this statistic. Randall at +5 in just two games. Best defenseman on team? ;)

That would be sweet:)

Ya there were a bunch of failures to clear the zone!! Agree they'll improve on that as we move forward. BTW I looked for you in !01 to say "Hey" but couldn't find you. The eyes are the first thing to go I guess;)

Well dang! We sit in row D seats 10/11 Right in the corner...let me know if you're coming to the NU game! I normally catch the warm up on the other end of the ice before we settle in...

Ok. I do plan on going. Funny you mention watching the warm ups cuz I usually do too. Hope to catch up with you then and say hey.

Maybe it's just me...but it seems to me that the 'Cats play much better at home after The Rev has sung the National Anthem. Coincidence?

I think it was the Rev AND the new PA announcer (Improvement) ...........

Yeah, the new announcer was a refreshing change.

Pep Band however was uncharacteristically weak....missing a core of brass instruments. Did they send the UNH Marching Band down to URI for the football game?

Yes that's what we were thinking about the band. As per the announcer that caused some issue at the end of the first period when the fans who sit near us usually say with one min left "hey John how much time is left" and there was no answer! The rest of the game they used "score keeper" instead. I agree there was more enthusiasm with the introductions.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2014/2015 - Wait 'Til Next Year!!!

+/- is the most meaningful individual stat in hockey, even more important than team SOG.

Hey, at least +/- is based on GOALS - you know, the things that actually determine W's and L's. :)

Kidding OR serious, a +5 in limited action is not exactly hurting Randall's outlook for more ice time. Certainly ticks many of the boxes in the Coach Umile "Who Gets to Play?" handbook. Not going out on a limb and predicting storybook "Late Blooming Townie Leads UNH to the Promised Land  Makes All-Hockey East   Signs Free Agent Deal with Bruins to Shore Up Decimated Blue Line Entering Stanley Cup Playoffs"   headlines come April, but you gotta give the kid credit for working hard, and showing well when he's gotten his chances. Long may it continue. Suspect if that does continue, one of the frosh defensemen will be spending more time in the stands than he probably thought he might at the start of the season.

Hey, if we have to trade a few trumpets and trombones for a #1 ranking over at Cowell (NDSU lost), I'll take it. Sounds like Goldrich had quite a showing in his first game back. That, the women's soccer team making the NCAA's, all topped off with last night's win, makes for happy times in 03824.

Chuck, agree with your favorable assessment of a 3-5 record. Play last night's brand of hockey vs. the Matthews mutts and Proviced, and not let our guards down against Rennselaer, we could arguably be 7-6-ish heading into popped-collar weekend.

I couldn't be more bummed about missing live action this year... With zero expectations, it's as if every game gives us something new to think about. Box of chocolates, if you will.

TvR with first pro goal!! V Sharks first period! Big blast from the point!! A great article here:

http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=737386

Breaking: Goal is under review...waiting for the news from Toronto!

Here's the goal, still stands at the moment:

Scoring update on the TvR goal FWIW dept:

Scoring change: TVR's first NHL goal has been credited to Versteeg. The good news is, he's still got his first point as a pro.

Thanks for that news on NDSU. Say it ain't so;)

No kidding here; UNH site lists Randall at +4, with only Willows ahead at +5, and Downing at +4; Thrush at -2. I think that Randall deserves more ice time next weekend, schollie or no schollie.

A five-game run would be nice; remember when we talked about those possibilities routinely? But, next five games are all winnable, including the two against Proviced.

Gotta love when The Rev comes out!!! I heard that this game was optional for the band because of the holiday weekend so students could go home if they wanted to, and that's why the band was short.

At 49th (2 of 24), should Cats need to work on PP during practice this week?

Admire the optimism dc ... but every bone in my body tells me 4 wins out of 5 for this very young and still-developing team is a mite too optimistic. I don't expect PC to continue to play poorly, and if UNH can somehow drag 3 wins out of the next five games, that would be great. I'll guess a slightly less optimistic 2-3-0 or maybe even 2-2-1. Either way would put UNH still way ahead of my own personal projections for the season to that point.

Especially with Gillies in net, Saracino feasting on the 'cats, NU being desperate and our traditional ECAC pre Thanksgiving clunker.

NU has something to 'prove' according to the gang on their board 'coz of the bad call of the HE playoffs? Trying to remember that...they had a goal called back, as I recall?? Anyway all the games are going to be a challenge and we have lots to work on and get better at...like, clearing the D zone, puck possession time, and of course, our 'woeful' PP as Snively65 pointed out. Still, it will be an interesting run and I hope we will be competitive in each one. I'd also like to see us pull less penalty minutes; 14 mins in the box in the last game isn't going to cut it against a Providence offense led by that Saracino kid who gives us fits et al. Gilles is a great goal tender; he has struggled somewhat but he's capable of being lights out so I'm sure he'll bring his game. Ugh, ECAC pre Thanksgiving clunker...still trying to forget last year's 6-3 loss to Harvard :p
