That law makes no sense to me. It's off campus at the Verizon so I don't see why they wouldn't sell beer (Personally I think the should sell it at the Whitt too). I don't know the exact wording of the law but just because it's a college event and underage kids (college kids who show up drunk anyway) will be there, they can't sell alcohol? (Will that many students even show up?) Meanwhile the Monarchs will have a game there and the place is filled with really little kids and they are able to sell beer. Doesn't make sense. I don't know why people are so quick to censor 18,19,20 year olds from alcohol. Are people just living with their head in the sand?

Just one man's opinion....

Yes, during the Vietnam Nam War, during the time of Wipeout and Santana on the sound system at Snively, the legal drinking was 18.

Great article Mike. MALLER will only get better. Looks good already though. My heart goes out to the kid. That must have been tough for him.

Yes Mike thanks for your great stories about the team; was impressed with Maller v Princeton. He is already contributing in a big way! Sorry for his loss; Coach U mentioned it in a Union Leader article yesterday as well.

Some well-deserved recognition for Justin Agosta:

Interesting, first public comment on the possibility of him playing for UNH again next season (i.e., his 5th year, redshirt season).

It would be awesome to have Justin Agosta for another year! Knodle too but that's not gonna happen obviously. I think the D is really clicking right now and it's just in time! Keep it going 'Cats! (And thanks fOr sharing this article)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

For those who haven't seen it there is a bunch of stuff in Fosters today regarding the McCloskey situation.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Thanks. Wow.

90 is the (Manch)Vegas, over/under on the number of quiet days before an undisclosed settlement.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Seeing the "other side of the story" in great detail in today's Foster honestly made my day. It all pretty much falls into place with a lots of bits and pieces of information that have come my way since this whole incident unfolded. If there was ever any question that Scarano took this as an opportunity to get rid of Coach McCloskey due to the recent on-ice downturn of the program, I'm hoping this pretty much settles the issue for any of those who may have remained neutral, or even in Scarano's corner regarding Coach's dismissal.

And while Atty. Studen may technically not have an "Ivy" background professionally ... let there be no doubt she is at the top of her profession and a long-standing leading advocate in her field (employment law), and is working for a high-profile and highly reputable firm, and no doubt has her "pick of the litter" of cases that might come her way. That she even took on this case speaks volumes.

Good to see the Friends of UNH Women's Hockey solidly behind Coach McCloskey in this debacle.

If "Blue Skies" isn't wetting his pants just yet, I guess that would just goes to prove the adage "ignorance is bliss".

I only wish they had a pay-per-view for his future deposition, I'd pay $$$$$ and enjoy watching the little git squirm. Not that it would ease the injustice already done to Coach, his family and his players. Karma, as they say, can be a b!tch ... :D :D :D

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Scarano is on a roll.... No new football stadium, no new hockey scoreboard, hoop team has lost 13 straight, they can't even give away hockey tickets, and he soon will be involved in a lawsuit up to his neck... I personally can't wait....!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

While I'm not privvy to much of the UNH Athletic Dept. past I can say I was extremely impressed by the email sent by the coach to his fellow coaches. Plenty of integrity here. I'm extremely disappointed as a parent of two who have gone through UNH (one still there to graduate in June) that this matter was handled as it was. Here's hoping Coach McCloskey receives total satisfaction and complete vindication.

Oh yea...that hoops coach just got a 3 year extension then promptly hired his son to his coaching staff! 16 straight losing seasons by Herrion but lets renew his contract!

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Time for some heads to roll at UHN.

I don't know if they will or not but they should.

This is going to get ugly for UNH.

My opinion, UNH wanted to get rid of him and felt like this was a good way to get it done now. It's not easy to get rid of a guy that has been around for such a long time (see Umile, Dick). Opportunity presented itself. Clearly their PR stuff about inappropriate contact was meant to frame this as sexual. There is intent there... it's malicious. However, it was obvious that it had happened on the bench during a game and it's kind of tough to do anything of that nature through a facemask, hockey pants, or shoulder pads.

It's amazing to me that academic institutions employ so many dumb people that can make such bad decisions. Penn State, UNH, etc.

I was under the impression this guy McCloskey was well thought of as a recruiter, some having given him credit for the talent on the better UHN teams in the late 90's and early 2000's. Is his record that bad with the women's team I wonder? Good recruiters with an eye for talent are not born every day. Tell ya, glad I'm not a coach nowadays , dont think I could tolerate kids disrepectful behavior ......some think the world revovles around them......little bahsitds, er beetches. :D

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Yes, so maybe Coach McCloskey got conveniently railroaded ... but worry not!! Our boy "Blue Skies" is diligently on the job, and due to his determination, dedication and hard work (*cough* groveling *cough*) earlier this week, Coach McDonnell won't be leaving for UMass Amherst as had been rumoured. So we still have that going for us here at Complacency U!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Re: UNH Wildcats 2013-14 Season Thread

Ummm, Nick, a little much don't you think? I would not even remotely lump UNH with what happened at PSU. Besides, all of what you said is pure speculation aimed at nailing a team you hate.

First, I lumped them in and stated why, they are two academic institutions that employ dumb people that make bad decisions. Nothing more. Nothing less. Two examples that apply to the above... particularly in the way they've handled an athletic issue from legal to PR to the university presidency. Maybe Rutgers is more appropriate to lump in with UNH given that neither school has ever won anything of athletic significance in their entire athletic department's history (and both dealt with alleged abusive coaches). Would that make you feel better if I said UNH and Rutgers?

Second, I really don't give a crap about UNH women's hockey. Or any women's hockey for that matter.

And third, if I did hate UNH (false), why would I differentiate between the school and their already fired coach? If I hated their "team" wouldn't I support the administration on this one?

Fourth, I don't think it's speculation at all to state the obvious, that someone crafted the press release to imply sexual misconduct without saying so much. There is no report anywhere refuting what physical contact was made. Do you have a brain that can do any independent thinking regarding this point? Or are you sticking with blurting out the word "speculation"?
