UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

Re: Alexic Crossley - Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week!

FYP:p

Defenders play kick ball, or soccer, or whatever. Hockey players who man the blueline and let loose bombs on net are defensemen!

Crossley Honored by Hockey East as Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Freshman defenseman Alexis Crossley (Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia) was tabbed as the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced by Hockey East Monday afternoon.

Crossley played a vital role in the Wildcats' 4-3 victory over fourth-ranked Boston College Saturday as she tallied a pair of goals and an assist. The freshman got New Hampshire on the board in the first period with her second goal of the season at the 11:11 mark and assisted on the game-tying goal in the third period. Just over a minute later in the third, Crossley scored the game-winning goal on a power play, ultimately helping the 'Cats to a 4-3 victory.

Through five games, Crossley has a total of four points on three goals and an assist thus far and has notched 11 shots on goal from the blue line. Two of her three goals have been on power plays.

The Wildcats return to action Friday when they take on Wisconsin in the first of a two-game series. Friday's start time is slated for 8:00 p.m.

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

Nice to see UNH continue to stay in the news for all the right reasons. Crossley is playing very well and is one of many Freshmen contributing to the teams 're-birth' along with a solid group of veteran players. A big Congrats to her and a shout-out to the team as they prepare for Wisconsin later in the week. Good luck girls!

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

UNH has 29 players six of whom are seniors. After this year 23 players remain four of whom are goaltenders - whether all remain who knows. Question: With that many players returning and players getting scooped up quite early in the 'Commitments' threads, does UNH have any offensive players on the hook or any players for that matter? Just asking....anyone know?

Yeah, they have some commitments. Don't forget that Heather Kashman, who is a redshirt this year, will be back.

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

Wisconsin 2 - UNH 1: Shots 34-30 Wisconsin I think.
UNH came out slow but started to compete better as the game wore on. Good movement on the perimeter but gotta get inside and to the net more and shoot quicker. Wisconsin looked ok but not as good as I expected. The third period was the best one for the cats as they started to press harder. Decker is VERY dangerous every shift and fun to watch. Wisconsin had some strong dominant shifts mostly when Decker was on but the Cats held their own and hopefully will compete hard and confidently for three full periods Sunday. There was a nice turn-out of 1600 plus people and the new rink is beautiful and a solid group of 20-30 UNH family/fans.

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

After 1, Wisconsin, or should I say Decker leads UNH 1-0 on a 5 on 3 pp....UNH has come out much better then last game....moving the puck better and being a bit more composed with their pass selection.. ..unfortunately the refs are wicked homers allowing Wisconsin to use their body and interfere but not calling that...no offense to Wisconsin but why do all these schools except for Northeastern, have deals with online companies and continue to have students work the cameras and online broadcast? Maybe even have someone who knows hockey to follow the puck?If I'm paying good money to watch, why is the product so bad? Every online broadcast shows the scoreboard when there's a break in action...who cares online about local crap.....show me the ice...like maybe when a player gets hurt and I'm concerned about them, I can see what is going on...not seeing a big red W!! Seriously, if schools send out there broadcasts so dismissively, what do prospective players and parents think of said school.....

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

2nd period all Wisconsin...UNH just doesn't pass and hold as well yet....real nice goal by Burke!

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

Have a good stay in Madison Cats! Practice hard Tuesday and Wednesday and rest well so that you are fresh and focused for SLU Friday/Saturday.

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

Ok UNH! It is time to take some steps forward and find some wins through consistency and some 'jam'/edge in your game. After experiencing the level in the mid-west against the perennial powerhouse in Wisconsin, lets play some 'in your face hockey' this weekend and get some wins! Good luck Cats.

THIS! And please do it twice!

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

At the end of the second, Blake Bolden was defending against Jonna Curtis' breakout rush along the boards. Whether Curtis was completely facing the boards I can't say, but she sure as S*^$ wasn't facing Bolden when Bolden ran her into the boards. I thought that was a hit from behind that should have been called for the major. Bolden gets two for checking, Curtis gets 6 - 8 weeks in a sling. BC is skilled and fast enough to not have to play the goon game. Bad Eagles.[/QUOTE]

Does anyone know if Hockey East or the NCAA is reviewing this play or if they have already taken disciplinary action against Bolden/BC for that hit? It was calculated, brutal, and so unnecessary.A real low point for the womens' game.

Since she wasn't assesed a major I doubt it is being looked at.

I was disappointed in a couple calls the officials made. In one instance Hitchcock was on the boards in the offensive zone on a prolonged UNH attack. BC's Jackie Young very blatantly cross checked her in the neck / jaw area. I mean, no ifs, ands, or buts about her intention, yet she gets just two minutes. What message are you sending there?
I'm guessing the message is "no crosschecking"?

It was a body check, and was called as such. I'm sorry one of your players got hurt, but it was a physical play along the boards by a defender trying to make a play. It was illegal, but certainly not malicious. Are you kidding me? You think Bolden's thoughts were "I'm going to put this girl in a sling," not "I need to prevent her from getting to the net"? Clearly she went too far with the body check, and that's what was called.

Come on DC, I know it's your team but it happens. It's a contact sport. I expect those kinds of irrational postgame comments out of someone like, well, me; not you.

This might be the most honest statement I've ever read on this forum. And funny too. Well done, sir.

Re: UNH WildcatS 2012-'13: The Dawn of New Prominence

Hux probably answered my question. If not a major then it would not be automatically reviewed by the league. I removed my earlier post as it was not constructive. Player safety is a growing issue for the women's game and it is best discussed outside of an individual team thread.

That is absof**kinglutely ridiculous and you know it. It was a high-speed play along the boards. Calculated?? Get a grip.

Tony - ya know I luv ya, miss ya..., but a couple of the plays by a couple BC defenseman in that game were very calculated and unnecessary. You know I watch the game A LOT, and mostly in person, and rarely make a comment like that.

I just checked Hockey East's BC stat page.

#10 leads your team in penalties, with 11 in 6 games.
The closest teammate to those numbers has 4.

The breakdown: (perhaps you can see a pattern?)
10/5/12 vs BU
BC-5 Blake Bolden (2-Checking) BU 0x5
BC-6 Blake Bolden (2-Boarding) BU 0x6
BC-7 Blake Bolden (2-Interference) BU 0x7

10/20/12 vs UNH
none

10/21/12 vs UNH
BC-2 Blake Bolden (2-Tripping) UNH 0x2
BC-4 Blake Bolden (2-Checking) UNH 0x4
BC-5 Blake Bolden (2-Tripping) UNH 1x5

10/25/12 vs UMD
none

10/26/12 vs UMD
BC-1 Blake Bolden (2-Roughing) MND 0x1
BC-5 Blake Bolden (2-Checking) MND 1x5
BC-6 Blake Bolden (2-Charging)
BC-7 Blake Bolden (2-Checking) MND 1x6

10/31/12 vs BU
BC-3 Blake Bolden (2-HITTING AFTER WHISTLE) BU 0x3

I think she's a great hockey player, and have told her as much, but her body of work suggests that she plays by a different set of rules regarding body contact, at least in the majority of these 6 games.

No, no, it suggests that she plays by the SAME set of rules, she just violates them more often! :D

Look, clearly she plays a physical game and crosses the line from "body contact" to"body checking" or what have you. And maybe she flies around a little too aggressively to try and make a play. Fine. I could accept that argument. But to suggest that she goes out there and premeditates injuring other players is, really, borderline slanderous.
