UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

People forget the current roster is 26 (last I heard Ivens-Anderson left the team) but there are only 18 scholarships allowed in NCAA hockey. I know scholarships get broken up, so one guy might be a 3 for 4 etc. So the equivalent of 8 guys paid their own way this year, and this roster size is pretty typical for UNH.

Kinda lets you know where hockey stands with the pigskin and roundball crowd that run the NCAA. D-1 football teams get 85 scholarships, D-1 basketball gets 13 and most B-Ball teams have less than a 13 man rotation. Hockey doesn't get enough to dress a team.

Joe "I Only Know One Story Line" Meloni has his latest rewrite up at CHN:

I would love to hear the players say, "* the legacy. * the history. We're going out there to play on Saturday. We are the 2011 Wildcats. We're not the 1999 'Cats. We're not the '02 'Cats. We're not even the 2010 'Cats. We play on Saturday, and win or lose based on that, not on our program's 'history'." And, I'd like them to mean it. Just go out there and play, and stop worrying about the past.

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

We've only been season ticket holders for three years, but we probably won't renew next year. Why bother, when Marty $carano and the rest of the ticket department got an extra $250 or so out of me? You know how many games I paid full price for at $24 a pop (so, $48) and then had friends purchase tickets for $11 and sit with us? In this economy, perhaps UNH would learn that 4,000 seats at $15 is the same as 2400 seats at $24 (give or take). And then you have more noise and more concession sales . . .
I'd be pretty interested to see the results if STH's were polled on things like how happy they are with the pricing scheme, game day experience, responsiveness of AD to their concerns, etc. There seems to be some discontent with at least some portion of the fan base, but I honestly couldn't tell you how pervasive it is - maybe it would do them some good to attempt to reach out and solicit concerns and address them proactively. Even more interesting would be the results of the poll if issued to those who have not renewed over the past few seasons.

He had me questioning that though, isn't it set by the 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 regardless of the location of the regionals?

Actually no. The East winner plays the Northeast winner and the West winner plays the Midwest winner, so a UND-BC matchup would come in the semi's.

I don't know about everyone else I am ready for game day!!1 I see a big game for Digi today!! With 1 #4 seeding winning and the other bringing Yale to OT gives me more hope then I all ready had. I don't think what happened yesterday in Bridgeport or St Louis has any bearing on what we can expect this afternoon in Manchester, however, having said that, I do agree with your last statement. A full 60 minute effort from the Cats doing all those things is what we'll hopefully see. Win or lose, if they leave it all on the ice that's all we can ask. Bring it boys!

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Tonight's post post game(s) plan revolved around watching BC. Tomorrow's pre-game plan revolves around driving my daughter back to Durham, she's attending the final only if UNH plays. Hmmm... Go 'cats!

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

best of luck tonight guys, go get 'em!

I was critical of UNH for their performance at the garden so let me start this off by congratulating them after a great performance today.

UNH responded with the best game i've seen them play in a long time. The first line still wasn't as dominant as they can be or we'll need them to be to win 3 more games...but, it's big for the confidence to win a big game against a good team without relying on those guys. Could have been 5 or 6-1 by the time Miami cranked it up the last 6 or 8 minutes.

Moses' line was great again, and it was a great game collectively for our defensemen. Kessel obviously with a great assist to sislo, but in their own zone, i'm not sure i've ever seen unh play that well.

At the same time, being realistic, UNH also didn't get miami's A-game...but definitely credit UNH for their role in that.

Congrats and good luck tomorrow!

Re: UNH Wildcats - 2011 Playoff Quest

Hey guys just want to say congrats on the victory. Best game plan anyone has had against us all year. I haven't seen Miami this disoriented all year. Miami's star players looked timid and lost at times. Miele was a non factor and that surprises me a little but UNH did a great job bottling up the middle of the ice and capitalizing on the chances given to them. Goaltending came up big when need.

Good luck the rest of the way, definantly a win that was earned.
