I love this. This should be a great final.
I don't think another win is too much to ask for.

Billb, as a frequent malcontent on these boards, I am curious for your opinion . . . will you be satisfied if UNH plays their asses off and loses, 2-1 or 3-2 or even 4-3 in OT? They're missing two of their best offensive players . . . and UML is without question the hottest team in the country.

Of course I WANT UNH to win this game and go to the Frozen Four; but losing this game is not a choke, or an indictment on the system or the coach. This is not another RIT in Albany situation . . .

Mookie is really conflicted with this game today :(

Fascinating match-up tonight ... from my standpoint, last night's UNH victory was important for the program, in what was the first real postseason experience for about half the squad. That it came against a Denver team that was similarly struggling down the stretch of the regular season/early postseason is noteworthy, but a win is a win, and no one gets style points for winning against "hot" teams vs. "slumping" teams. The task at hand is to find a way to win. Nothing else matters. And UNH found a way to win, and for the better part of the last 45 or so minutes finally looked very much like the team that finished 2012 so strongly. Let's hope they pick up tonight where they left off last night.

The injuries to Goumas and Downing are unfortunate, but everyone has to deal with injuries at this time of the season. UNH *found* five (5) goals last night from among the rest of the squad, so if they can even find another 2-3 goals tonight AND (more importantly) continue with the same all-around defensive effort, they've got a chance.

UML looked like a well-oiled, focused and determined machine last night, but Wisco looked like they were (surprisingly) "just happy to be there" after their surprising WCHA tourney success. I'm sure Lowell would like nothing more than to pay back UNH for the early-season pain the 'Cats inflicted on them in the 3-game season series sweep, and there's no question that over the last two seasons, UML has a huge advantage in "big game" experience, which I put a lot of stock in. IF Lowell gets ahead in this one early, they will roll to their first-ever appearance in the FF, and if they do, I like their chances of at least making it to the Finals. BUT ...

... IF UNH can keep this one close, or even get themselves a lead, you have to wonder how Lowell would react to that? Sometimes certain teams just match up better with others. Providence was *that* team for UNH this season, but maybe UNH will prove to be *that* team for Lowell?? Obviously, I'm hoping that proves to be the case, but it will take complete focus, total determination, and an extra emotional lift for UNH to pull this off. Lowell is the type of team that has shown it can win a 1-0 game, so there can't be the early game "gift" or "feeling out period", which UNH got away with last night.

Coach Umile and his staff have a great opportunity to prove their postseason naysayers (myself included) wrong tonight, and I'm hoping they find a way to pull it off. :)

Unfortunately UML has been behind in many of the big games recently.

Why do I keep hearing people say this was UNH's first win in 5 postseason tries in Manchester?

UNH is the only team in the country to win its first round matchup each of the last 4 times they've made the tournament. Although they have they have frustratingly been unable to make the Frozen Four, the phrase 'one-and-done' is factually incorrect.

2009, beat UND IN MANCHESTER. Lost a thriller to BU.
2010, beat Cornell in Albany. Forgot to play RIT.
2011, beat Miami (OH) IN MANCHESTER. Forgot to play ND.
2012...
2013, beat Denver IN MANCHESTER.

So, they can win in Manchester. If we lose tonight, how can you call it a choke? Playing the hottest team in the country. And making it to the "elite 8". I'm saying this is good enough--I want them to return to the Frozen Four--but stop saying one-and-done.

Oops, my bad. You are right, of course. I somehow forgot about their last two successful first games in Manchester. I stand by statement that this team and coaching staff can be proud of their valiant effort against PC in the HE quarters and their heroic win against the DU goon squad last night. A couple of additional freshmen will get a chance for some big-game experience tonight.

Btw, whomever talked about playing "kill hockey" with Tim Burke, I talked with him yesterday and he remembered those days and the hockey fondly...he's out at the Grand Rapids Regional......
That was me, zoofer. Ask him to reimburse me for the window he broke but we all had to pay for . ;-) Would love to find out whatever became of Jim Harvie after he graduated. He was a good guy. (And an unfortunate occupant of the car in which Warren Brown was killed.) A story for another time...

Re: Unh vs lowell in manchester saturday march 30 , is four wins to much to ask for .

How is the fish not a penalty? I guess I can see how it might not be at Lake Whitt, but an NCAA regional game? Really? I'd hate to be sitting anywhere near the guy that brings that in.

Just a few more hours! Please keep it going, Lowell!

I agree.

It's interesting how perspective changes things. When BU went out to Denver in January (first game back after break), it was the game where Noonan went nuts and Escobedo was hitting everyone after the whistle. I ripped them up and down for their "undisciplined" behavior. After watching last night, now I understand why. I didn't realize what a bunch of thugs Denver was. They completely mauled BU both physically and hockey-wise and I'm sure a lot of the BU players "losing their cool" was due to the baiting from Denver...

Is Goumas concussed? If so, he won't be allowed to start. :-(.

If my teammate took a five minute major in a one goal national championship playoff game with a deliberately brutal hit, he would not want to have the post game locker next to mine.

And Denver's coach is chirping to the refs after the call instead of ripping the guy a new dietary process exit point? "This is something that's been a problem for us all year". Please define your job responsibilities to me.
