Congrats to UML - just a gritty impressive team. Defense was simply awesome - every UNH transition and rush seemed to be like groundhog day everytime they crossed the blue line being pushed to the outside. Best chance they could ever seem to get off was a weak wrist shot into Hellebuyck's chest and even those were rare.
The few loose pucks that looked like they had chances near the goal UNH didn't seem to get close to finishing on (blame half on UNH's lack of finishing ability that's plagues them and UML's solid defensive play).
A few notes:
UML came out BUZZING in the 2nd and although UNH survived the attack it was yet again an example of an opposing coach making some adjustments that worked while Umile made no adjustments. UNH was very fortunate UML didn't bury anything in that first five minutes of the 2nd. Seemed UNH won a fair amount of faceoffs in the Lowell zone and EVERY time they did it was a quick wrist shot through the crowd from behind the faceoff dot - must have happened at least 6 times in the first period - did it ever occur to Umile to draw up more then one offensive zone face off play? Maybe a pass back to points and attempt a slapshot mixed in rather then the same exact wrist shot everytime they won a draw?
Its this kind of thing that drives me nuts about Umile (and the reason I believe he gets outcoached in the postseason so often).
Enough ranting bout the same o same o with UNH already - UNH did play a good game and left it on the ice, I have my doubts that Downing or Goumas make a huge difference against that defensive showing - after all they were out there playing throughout the lifeless 2nd half of the regular season and HE quarterfinals right?
Bottomline is UML played a stellar defensive game and did what they needed to win which seems to be something UML has mastered for the last few months repeatedly.
Good luck Riverhawks in the FF - your fans showed up, your team and coach have been outstanding and certainly a well deserved visit to Pittsburgh - will be rooting for you.

Congrats to UNH for keeping us on the edge of our seats. Gritty hockey game. I thought it was more impressive than the other games against us even if this time we won.

Indeed, we couldn't have lost to a better team. I'm excited for the evolution that Hockey East is going to be seeing with the rise of 'mack/PC/UML. Who knew that we'd be seeing a HEA Playoff game that was the battle of the defense?
In spite of the loss, I'm happy with how the 'cats played tonight. At one point deep in the 2nd, I said that it seemed that the game was going exactly as both teams would want it - both seemed dominant at the same time, which made it fun to watch. The outcome might have been more in our favor without the injuries - it seemed like a lot of blue line setups went on net to a forward line that was just a bit out of sync, but I am in no way wishing for what could have been.
The performance tonight ensured that I can blame Denver (not the cats, unlike so many games before), and congratulate Lowell for the outcome. Given the way the last couple of months have gone with the team, that's darned near a dream.

Great season, UNH and great run. Thanks for the clean, classy game! Sorry you had to endure the goonery of Denver ... would've rather seen you with a full squad.

Once the disappointment wears off (which is quick at my age), I give thanks for another good season for UNH. While Mr. Umile has his weaknesses, he runs a clean program (I wonder what he as a coach would do to a player who tried to injure an opponent) which always represents the University well.

Congrats to lowell , however think the outcome would be diffferent if UNH didnt have to shuffle there lines , difficult adjustment night before the most important game of there lives ... yes henrion looked lost out there , but it effected every line . I think UNH style of play gives Lowell fits in evidence of there threee wins , however we will never know the true outcome with a full squad as injuries are a part of the game...Lowell we represent H.E. well with there NEW JERSEY DEVIL DEFENSE.

Last night's game was probably the best game I've seen these two teams play in against one another. Had me on the edge on my seat for most of it. Thanks to all the UNH fans who are being classy about this. Hope you guys are all rooting for us in Pittsburgh.
