Enthusiastically pitch a resurgence, that the recruit can lead/be a part of, etc and you can win recruiting battles you're not 'supposed' to win. I've done it. So, the right person at UNH can certainly get it done (even with Umile hanging around for two more years)...

Perhaps this is all part of the great recruiting push. "See that crap out there... you think you can play first line day 1? You know you will."

Another weird realization is how both Geddy and Coach Umile are notable for operating at the high end of the vocal pitch (?) range. They're not too far off age-wise. Long-lost brothers  or *gulp* separated at birth??

Definitely. Between the hair, and the similarities in their world views and infectious positive enthusiasm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL_7pVb2lI0), they are basically the same guy.

Hey! We got one - Corson Green of the Northern Cyclones/Chicago Steel. Be a difference maker Corson...

Edit - looks like a D / drafted by Soo Greyhounds in OHL as well / 6-1 '99 from Potsdam, NY

Looks like he has some puck moving ability - http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=315248

Would like to see him playing in Chicago and not the E...

Good. Maybe his skating is already much improved!

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2018

From that clip, not a lot of acceleration, doesn't have to use stick much (boy, the Eastern league is weak, no wonder Colin Bourque/Cefalu scored the way they did), but a physical force. Father was 6'4 with Clarkson http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=94299. 12 goals in 17 games (with few assists) suggests not a lot of playmaking/vision, but a shot that can beat Empire goalies. A Knodel clone?

With 4 D needed in 2018, he can be Chanter's replacement. Still need 3 puck moving skill guys.

He's one of those **** foreigners we don't get in Melrose. Don Cherry warned me about them chicken swedes. Will never go into a corner. Never had one, never will. I remember when Brian first took the job and told me he wanted to recruit out in British Columbia. I told him we could only recruit in the north shore, and Ontario. Well, he took out a map and surprised me by showing that British Columbia was actually part of Canada, not England or South America. Imagine my surprise to learn they actually played hockey outside of Arlington (Chebator), Reading (Thomson, Sullivan), Waltham (Perry), Lawrence (Cooper) and Southie (Donovan, Malone), I even got a foreigner (Jim McGrath) who was from New Jersey but fooled me because he played for Cushing.

(Actually, my hiring of Brian is a funny story. I typically only hire guys like me who know the neighborhood (Serino, Tortorella) or guys I worked with at PC (Lassonde, Borek), but I had learned of Brian through Scotty. I thought Brian was a Boston Mick, and only found out he wasn't one of us until after he showed up. I never made that mistake again.)

After that embarassment about Georgraphy (or geometry, I always get those confused) I decided to leave all the recruiting to one guy who would speak the foreign language that they speak in Canada (not sure what that is. As a further aside, imagine my repeated surprise when admissions keeps rejecting my recruits because they refuse to accept "Canadian" as the foreign language requirement.).

Funny thing, we've never had foreigner here, but I see Scotty's now brought one in at Providence in his first month there. I always thought Scotty wasn't a true American - we got to look after our own.

Luckily I've got three more years to impart on Mike all the recruiting and coaching wisdom I've accumulated.

After reading this I did a quick look into the players Umile brought to Providence. My understanding is McShane was pretty hands off, though that might more refer to the post Umile years. I also don't remember Borek being mentioned much, at that point he pretty much was a coach in training. It was also a different era, he was PC's first full time 2nd assistant, Sterling did not even have one and Lou had a part time assistant his last 3 years.

Anyway PC brought in 27 players in the 3 classes Umile brought in. Of them 5 were not from Ontario (actually only 3 of them Andy Mattice, Paul Saudrcook, and Lyle Wildgoose), the other 19 were New Englanders, only Jeff Serowick not from RI or Mass. 13 from Mass, though 2 went to Mount St Charles in RI (one was Jeff Robison whose younger brother ended up at UNH). Also coincidently one of the RIers was Dave Berard, who was the last class Umile and Borek and who actually arrived after they left, however Berard would be Borek's assistant at Colby and Lake St.

Another RIer was actually a baseball player, Tim Allen, whose son is a PC commit. Another bit player was Ken Sweezey, he was from Abington, who was a recruited walk on, his sister was already at PC and on the women's team, his son Billy is a Yale commit and in the USHL right now, a good size Dman. The north shore/boston players he nabbed were mostly in the first class Tommy Fitzgerald from Billerica, tag along Dman Steve Higgins from Billerica (both actually Austin Prep) Dave Guden from Watertown (he actually had been drafted). The next class had Larry Rooney from Southie and Paul Flaherty from Dorchester. I wonder by the last class if he hadn't abdicated the recruiting to Borek as they did not fit the mold, 4 Players who played high school in RI (including Robison), 2 of the 3 Minnesota kids, and Michiganer Mike Boback. The only Mass kids were Sweezey who as I said was a bit player, and Shaun Kane who played for the Springfield Pics to which it appears Umile did have a connection as Ricky Bennett came from there

Also Watcher I don't really see a direct PC connection between Lassonde and Umile. Lassonde graduated spring of 84, Umile arrived as assistant in fall of 85. My memory says Lassonde went back to NH to teach and I assume coach. The best I come up with is Lassonde played for Lou as did Umile's older brother

As far as Borek goes at PC, its a different role. First it's a veteran voice to bounce ideas off of. At Union he had Bennett, at PC he has had even more veteran voices, Russell who had just been a head coach (though from appearances Benny Barr was actually more involved especially with recruiting, as a side note if Murray doesn't step aside first don't be surprised if someone in Hockey East scoops him up), Steve Miller and now Borek. A Lowell person posted for you the Divver tweet about Leaman himself having gone out and seeing Duhaime right off playing UVM. Borek was the last to see Conway play, there for the back to back hat trick games just before he signed, but Leaman from my understanding was doing his due diligence from the day PSU said adios which was before Borek came on board. Even Mulera of the Skipjacks had been on their radar before Borek as they were interested in his linemate who ended up at BC. My guess is Borek has input (which is taken seriously) but Leaman is the keeper of the list and all the coaches lay eyes on the serious candidates they are recruiting

Agreed - that was the least exciting end to end rush I've ever seen. He's not getting great competition at that level. Nice to see he is in Chicago's system and was also a 5th round OHL pick, at least. Way to many EC juniors on the roster and in the pipeline and not enough USHL or BCHL prospects...

That said, early reports indicate he's a 2017 - that could easily just be assumptions based on birth year, etc, but he may HAVE to be a Maller replacement don't you think? Unless they can find a late diamond in the rough they're currently looking at the four would be seniors, Dawson, Nonis and Darcy in 2017. Green would make eight - and they really need eight with those SRs, Dawson, the slow, if not questionable development of Darcy, and a walk-on in Nonis...

So I hope he's closer to what the one OTB tweet describes him as - and ready to jump to, and contribute in, the USHL next year - than how the SBN article describes him...

Fingers crossed on Mendel & Harrison leading the 2018 class of defensemen. They should get good looks at Harrison every time they go watch Blackburn...

Here's a kid they could add for 2017, pushing Green back to 2018. Watcher, any thoughts on Reilly?? Consistently touted as a puck-mover and getting stronger in his own end, with high-end potential. Green seems solid - I'd like the pick-up even more if they could grab a kid like Reilly and give Green two years in the USHL...

An athletic, skilled rearguard making his debut in the OJHL this year with the North York Rangers .. a talented puck carrier, driven by a fast change of pace .. thrives when operating at a feverish tempo, proactively spearheading the rush or supporting the attack .. possesses excellent passing and shooting skills, and continues to mature as a puckmover, developing better patience and improving the quality of his decisions .. still prone to rash giveaways and blind clearances, yet the progression is there .. still working on developing his defensive structure .. needs to work on his angles and positioning, learning to back up and stay square when defending the rush .. tends to get impatient and gets drawn out of his lanes .. more than willing to inject himself into physical battles, yet will need to continue to add strength and mass to a tall yet lean frame .. a player who intrigues due to his progression over the past 18 months .. might just be still scratching the surface on his long-term potential .. courted by Ontario Hockey League teams yet is expected to explore the U.S. collegiate NCAA route, which should give him more time to realize his impressive potential .. a rookie on the North York blue line, Reilly is expected to log quality minutes with the program, aiding in the power play and continuing to develop the defensive side of his game.

McKeens review of Green, had him ranked 26th for the OHL draft last spring (higher than most).
Big raw mobile defensive with intriguing tools…enjoys jumping into the rush and owns some underrated and
developing puck skills…utilizes his size well to shield off checkers and also contain attackers defensively…able
to read plays unfolding and identify the smart passing option on the breakout..very competitive and active
defender who's always looking to make an impact...ceiling is very high ..Green is one of my favourite
defenders of this draft class as his ranking indicates.

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2018

Looks very encouraging looking forward to tracking his stuff over the next couple. He's what, 2 seasons out from joining UNH, maybe 3?

Translation: "Should Green take it personally when the current HC ignores his progress the next year or two?"

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2018

Father played at Clarkson, was a very good player, unfortunately he got into a bad situation and took his own life about 10 years, all of Potsdam is rooting for Corson, a great hockey player and a great kid!!
