UNH Off Season Thread 2011

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

There's a new website devoted to college hockey - http://www.collegehockeysource.com/home.

I don't know who manages or contributes to the site but at least one of them has a soft spot for UNH. They predict that:
~ UNH will finish 2nd in Hockey East.
~ Blake Kessel and Matt DiGirolamo will be 1st Team Hockey East All-Stars.
~ Brett Kostolansky will be a 2nd Team Hockey East All-Star.

They also list BC at finishing at #3...I'd be shocked if BC wasn't #1 or #2 next season. Putting UNH @ #2, with all of that offensive talent to replace is a stretch, IMHO.

I browsed the web page and found a few things you missed. Apparently, you are drastically understating just how much praise this web page gives UNH:

- Matt Fornataro returns to coach UNH - diverts much of the first round selected talent from the OHL and convinces them to play at UNH for 5 years.
- Umile’s hair will grow back and exceed Coach Lucia’s
- UNH gets a instant replay big screen for center ice
- UNH will beat BC in the national title game next year.
- Hockey east guide admits to their utter dislike for Freddy Meyer.
- The UNH mechanical engineering department unveils its plans to build a roboshark prototype and announce it at the first exhibition game of the year.

Pretty heavy stuff I know. Let it sink in…

UNH at Fenway? Personally I'm not excited. Outdoors, January, minimum of 100' from the ice surface, crappy sight lines. I guess if Maine give up a home game it's not so bad, but other than that . . . . . ycch!!! The novelty has worn off IMO

I think Fenway might be the only place less comfortable than the seating in Orono. Wonder if they are able to serve beer.

just an fyi, coming from someone at both fenway and ford field last year - the closer you are to the rink - the worse the view is

I have three connections to Sox season tickets - looking down on the third base line, behind where the third base ball girl sits, and grandstand behind the Sox dugout. My guess is none of those would be any good for watching a hockey game. A year ago New Years, when the Bruins played there, I had offers to go but passed. I talked to people who actually sat in the center field bleachers for the game. They admitted they went for the party, not the game. I just hate the idea of a UNH/Maine game, the best of the regular season, being thrown away at Fenway. Don't get me wrong, I am huge, huge Sox fan, and I love the Fenway experience every time I go, but for baseball, not hockey.

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

I think that UNH would be giving up its one home game against Maine next year for Fenway.

Season ticket holders already have a fragile relationship with the athletic department; hopefully Scarano has the testicular fortitude to push back and say "no".

Well that would be completely moronic. So it is probably a lock.

I can’t see how this makes any sense. With BC-BU it is in city and people can go for the party, plus a novelty. Add in the NHL was paying to put the ice down. For UNH-Maine people need to travel in; it isn’t going to draw the casual Boston fan. Sounds to me like cold-outside-empty-with bad sight lines, yeah sign me up…

Talk about breaking news - Biz Jacobs just tweeted this a few minutes ago and the few websites who have posted all show the same three paragraphs. No details on whether he is staying with the Islanders or being traded. In any event, Good Luck to him. He was fun to watch and he appeared to enjoy himself while playing for UNH.

Next move - Does UNH bring in Ryan Randall this year or is there another, new recruit waiting in the wings?

"The 'Cats advanced to the Regional Finals for the third straight season, becoming the only team in the nation with tournament wins in each of the last three years."

Perhaps just a coincidence? Glad that he came back last year for his junior season.

Raise a banner! :D

Seriously though, I always thought he was a bit overrated (though still good).

Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

you have to be up high . i was at 3rd base in the second row of the skyboxes (for the rink set up it was between the blue and red lines) and you could see as well as anywhere else in the park from there. not perfect but pretty darn good. if they do this it may be worth the $90/ticket that i paid for BC-BU

He wouldn't be traded. He's either signing with the Isles or he becomes an unrestricted free agent in July because it's been 4 years since he was drafted. Same thing Blake Wheeler did when he left Minnesota, didn't sign with Phoenix and then signed with Boston.
