UNH Men’s Hockey 22-23: the start of something new, or more of the same?

. As per that first goal even I could see it from our seats we were just waitung for the next stoppage of play...

was right in front of us and was so clear when it happened. The ref on the goal line had a very clear look at it have no idea how they missed it. Then again about 5 mins later missed a pick up in the netting that was very clear.

I only brought it up in the first place because someone said (and I paraphrase because I don't feel like going back to get the exact quote) "What's it like being cancelled by a BU fan?" But it wasn't I who did the cancelling...otherwise I would have said nothing (which I will be sure to do from now on).

My comment on the game: This is the first time I have seen UNH this year and I am CERTAINLY not going to offer an opinion on the MS7 tenure. To my eyes, if UNH played with the same intensity and effort every night as they did last night, one would think they would have a better record. Of course (and as I BU fan all I have to do is go back to the "Albie years"), we also realize that part of coaching is to try to ensure that a team DOES maintain a more consistent level of performance. Great coaches emphasize that all the time...some coaches believe they should just be able to write out the lineup card and everything else will take care of itself.

Quite personally if you ask me this has been the single most important piece that has been lacking in the time I've watched the 'Cats, and particularly under MS7's tenure; team is not always prepared. I get it that teams have flat nights/starts but this has plagued UNH IMHO. I was not surprised we were behind 2 zip in the first; not a very inspiring period (surprised it wasn't more that top line of BU is excellent and of course, they have the depth we wish we had)

The second of course was much better for them (UNH) and the better team put it together at the end. Now I do not wish to demean the team per se regarding talent (I know; recruiting is a huge piece of this as well) that's not in my repertoire as much as it is for other seasoned fans like yourself but, I will give the 'Cats a ton of credit for the fight considering losing their goal tender. They definitely brought the fight and would agree with Cloud9 that our record would be much, much better than it is now. Too bad we don't have a killer PP as BU was in the box alot (we were too). At least we got a couple of goals on the PP last night...

Like I said Agganis is not our friend so I'm thinking 5-1 tonight.

Cy LeClerc on pace to be only the tenth Cats freshman in the Millennium to score double-digit goals.

1. who was the last?

2. who was the first?

3. who were the only two in the same year?

4. who scored the most?

5. why so few (open-ended essay question)?

I didn't see what MS7's reaction was, but I can tellya, only Jack Parker could lose his **** on a par with Dick Umile to shame the refs into cutting things a little more closely to even-up on something like that.
...

JMHO.
Not always -- I remember a UNH -- BU game from long ago in Durham when JP was incensed at the ref, called him over to the bench, and tugged on his shirt. He was thrown out of the game, to the crowd's delight. (My hockey memory used to be so much better -- I believe it was at Snively in the 70's, but I could be wrong about the decade. I do remember the incident well, otherwise.)

Chuck (or anyone else who is more knowledgeable about soccer than I), I'm just curious to get your opinion about the World Cup, your being a soccer coach. I'm not a soccer aficionado; however, when you watch sports your entire life there are enough commonalities to make a general assessment. IMO, a lot of the "problem" (if one perceives that it is indeed a problem) is that the game is simply not embedded deeply in our culture. Not to mention that most of the better US athletes play other sports. Also, is it me or does the US team look "small?" I look at the size of these teams in the back line and the US seems to get smothered. Perhaps they don't move the ball quickly enough. The hockey analogy would be a power play where the five players are stationary. Sometimes it seems as if there is no off ball movement by the US and they seem to wait until they are completely surrounded before getting rid of it. None of this is particularly surprising to me, since we all know that it takes years to develop instincts for a game and that usually results from playing it every day from the time you are a kid.

BU was so obviously the better team last night. Stay out of the box and they cruise to any easy 3 or 4 - 1 win. NESN announer said BU is the most penalized team in HEA. Great result for Pandolfo. Won the game, but much that they can improve on. Tonight could be ugly.

5 shots in the first with them all coming in the second half of tue period. 0-1 on PP and 1-1on PK. Not a very exciting effort so far

Just got in and am watching the third...love the 'strangely last place 'Cats' from the announcers. How have we been playing tonight? Looks pretty tight with BU up 1-0...

Like I said didn't see all the game but still hard to believe we are going to the Christmas break without a W in HE. The BU announcers seemed pretty generous with their compliments...If someone could come up with an objective view of the weekend (esp tonight) I'd appreciate it. Worried we'd get blown out tonight so glad that didn't happen.

Well believe it. Out shot 2-1. 2 short handed goals. I don’t think if the 22 shots we had any could be considered high quality.

2 more games and none of this crap for a month.

Really? Two shorties? What the heck happened there? Fessenden must have played well enough the keep the score down? Glad he wasn't suspended. 10.in.a.row.

2 power play goals by BU. Fessenden played well and the other positive is that it’s over , we are on to losing to ASU
