UNH Men’s Hockey 22-23: the start of something new, or more of the same?

A W is a W nice to turn it around tonight. Happy for Ryan Black getting his first goal as.a Wildcat. Cy LeClerc adds a few more to his early collection. Army slowed us down and their goal tender had some decent saves. Liam D picks up his 5th point in as many games. Looking for some O from Dmen Gagne and Huard.

Fezzi held up well and imagine he gets the nod for Sunday. 5 on 3 needs some work (they didn't look at the goal once) but at least noone went behind the goal haha (Snively 65 your favorite play!)

Could really use some HE points boys....

Whew! Glad to hear that MS7 is done with that ridiculous 5-3 PP approach. :-)

Happy for Ryan Black. For those that didn't see it, this is from Mike McMahon's weekly column:

https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2022/10/20_McMahon-This-Week-in-College.php

"Hockey East: Ryan Black doesn't have a goal yet for UNH, but he does have three points in three games. Black is one of the few D-III to D-I transfers in college hockey this season after he committed to UNH in the portal this summer. Prior to this season, Black was a four-year player at Babson and captained them last year. According to one scout, Black was a "Definite D-I player out of prep" but he wanted to go to college right away rather than go through junior hockey, and D-III was the only option for him at that point. In 26 games last season he had 38 points (18g, 20a), he had 111 points over four seasons, and so far he's proven that his D-I potential was there all along."

Nice to see in this day and age. Good for him! Also nice to see local talent lighting the lamp last night. Football ‘cats rocking their 8th uniform combo of the season today!?!

FWIW dept I did mention a uni change for our ice 'Cats in my email to Dr. Rich, which, incidentally, I got a reply from yesterday. Mentioned all the things I talked about but no mention of possible uni change. Gotta keep tryin'! Agree about Ryan Black; he's a versatile player who almost had another goal last night. As Coach Souza said in a Union Leader article the sad part is we 'only have him for one year'.

Well, he could have offered a scholarship right out of prep school, right?

No, no, no, we want our recruits to spend more time, not less time, in juniors. :-)

For the moment, UNH tied for 7th in HEA, as reported by NESN during NU-UML game.

Last place performance from a last place team. Apologies to those who had the misfortune of attending. HR definitely made the right call, missing out on this one today ...

Well..had to go to a memorial for a good friend of my husband who had just lost his wife.

Feel badly enough after this event...their (UNH) loss is miniscule in comparison.

And here comes Providence. What happened to that team we saw just what...2 weeks ago? Let's gooo.

Freaking disgusting!

Pardon the football analogy but you are what the scoreboard says you are. Speaking of football, maybe Souza should ask Santos of the first place UNH football team how to build a winning team.

As you well know, Santos was a huge part of what turned UNH Football around early in the MacDonnell era, after a series of losing seasons, and playing in a sub-HS standard (NH HS even) "stadium". I bet Santos has some interesting thoughts on MS7's demands for the re-sizing of the Whittemore Arena ice sheet, supposedly holding the key to a program turnaround LOLOLOLOL ...

Yeah. You know who recruited Santos? Tony Trisciani from Manchester NH and the Elon head coach. Truth be told I think Giuliano is the problem. I don’t have a good feeling about him. JMHO but he just strikes as mailing it in biding his time for a head coaching position. And isn’t he the head recruiter?

HEA 15, UNH 3. Just sticking with the football theme.

CHC’s posts on the other UNH thread more upbeat and encouraging.

Only for hockey season do I subscribe to the UL as there doesn't seem to be any real info coming out anywhere else regarding UNH hockey. Here's the quotes from the game yesterday, if you don't get/read that paper:

"All the seniors were the guys that competed,” Souza said. “We’ve got to get more guys to compete at that level.” (HR comment: well, hopefully that will come, but, tell me, they did seem to compete pretty well opening weekend. I know...the competition wasn't BC, who, despite what some say is a 'weak team' by BC standards. To that I'd say they (BC) will compete easily in the top 4 of HE as they get deeper into the season... Our guys are still fresh outta jrs I guess and need to develop a stronger compete level? Can this be developed?)

“I just didn’t like the way we lost today — the second and third goal, especially,” Souza said. “You’re still in the game and then you give up two quick ones like that. It’s unacceptable.” (HR comment: glad I missed it...welp, if we can improve on that kind of stuff for this coming weekend???) We don't like losing either, but, can stomach it if effort is there?

And:

“They’ve got more skill and then they outcompeted us,” Yep, I guess they did...and guess you'll have to develop the talent you have? So much I wanna say here but I will just leave that right there.

To your point Snively65 about reading the recruit pages yes, they are more upbeat and encouraging. And personally, despite where we are right now, I remain hopeful that as the season progresses there is true development in this team that is visible. Maybe it shows itself in the W column. That's my current bar. I guess.
