UNH Men’s Hockey 22-23: the start of something new, or more of the same?

UNH 1-7-0 in last eight games against Yukon at the Whitt. But in 2014/15 season, we won all three at the Whitt, including two in the MBPBEGAM round (pre-Luce, I think).

edit: Nope, I was wrong, as Luce had already replaced Bruce Parker at Yukon, but 2014/15 was also MS7’s last year as assistant coach at Yukon. So, that makes MS7 1-10 in games between UNH and Yukon at the Whitt. In other words, once Luce shed MS7, it was almost all “blue skies” (Who? What?) for Luce at the Whitt.

Connecticut owns UNH since Cav has been Coach.

Well let's be honest, other than a season or two way back when he took over, many teams have owned UNH over that span. Nothing to be impressed with, if that was your point.

I think you're overlooking Luce's amazing record at UConn - after all, it was SO impressive, BC couldn't wait to hire him the second Coach York retired, when Luce threw himself out at their feet, begging for the job he's always felt entitled to ... oh ... wait, I guess that didn't happen, as it turns out, BC wasn't all that impressed with one winning season in the conference, and one (ultimately losing) trip to the HEA Tourney in almost a decade.

In the meantime, Coach Carvel at UMass gave Luce a 3-year head start, took up a program in worse condition at UMass, and has buried Luce in every sense since (D-1 title, HEA titles, etc.) and it's not even close.

FWIW Coach Umile's first decade at UNH also far surpasses Luce's record. At UConn Hockey, the bar is set pretty low.

Got my renew the tickets email. Can we finish this miserable season first? One of the benefits is right to playoff tickets first. Um let’s see, you need to be home for those which means not being in last, and second you need a fan base.

the only thing perfected at UNH is alienating a fan base.

Maybe the purpose of the early STH renewal emails is gaging interest in the team before we learn how many of the better first- and second-year players will be heading to the transfer portal?

Nice period for the 'Cats with the nifty penalty shot and goal by the Captain. Far from over but thought we played well hold so onto to your leis (it's Hawaiian Night) .

When was the last time that UNH scored a penalty shot (not counting OT shoot outs)?

And now UNH has two (2!) double-digit goal scorers!

edit: Make that three (3!) double-digit goal scorers as Devlin beats the horn with an ENG. And, the Captain picks up 4 points on the night.

When is the last time UNH played a penalty free game? It almost happened tonight if not for the late third period tripping call. But you’re right, pretty consistent play all night.

I gauge it as a money grab now and hook people in. It was interesting the Before you go email we got said the Strafford Lot was open for season ticket holders. There was a guy there monitoring but actually in the lot not as you pull in. Maybe someone actually listened.

Should have taken NU +1.5 now that college hockey is on Draftkings....

In other news we are 46 in PWR, only 30 away from the Regionals. My guess is based on the 2nd half results MS7 will be back next year, with the conversation being look how we finished and with the next class coming in we can only go up.

It was nice to see Hockey Ref, who got the special "Lay" tonight....

To answer Snive's q about shootouts: The last time the Wildcats took a penalty shot was Nov. 12, 2021, when Jackson Pierson was successful on his attempt vs. Vermont. (info from story about the game) Hats off to the Captain; he said in the presser he was 'so tired' after the shift he wasn't sure he had anything left going into that shot.

Speaking of penalties I don't recall ever watching a Wildcat game where we were only in the box once. I think tonights going to be another story...bet Cav (well shoot I know I could watch him directly from my seat and he was def not happy on a few instances) will be looking to even that score tonight! But I'll enjoy the W for now as we don't get many against them...

Ps nice to see you too Norbert and yes, I felt special wearing my two LEIS..... :-)

All but assured that MS7 now stays through next season, although I would have been surprised if he got the boot next month even if we had broken the 1984/85 least wins record. Will be watching on NESN this afternoon.

Despite stupid OT shoot outs, I still think that penalty shots are the most exciting events in hockey, with the ref (lower case ref) puck in hand pointing to the center ice dot.

The sound you're now hearing is the sound of my heart not breaking for Luce.

Hope he gets crappy brunch service at the local no-tell motel hosting his team today ...

OMG ... sitting down for breakfast here at the WIS Estate, almost snorked my OJ halfway across the kitchen!!!

Did not realize USCHO had become a soft porn website lolol ;-)

Au contraire. Luce was 0-4 against UNH in the 2014-2015 season.

And we whooped them in the HE qtrs...our last time holding first round ice. (well if you wanna call 5-2 and 2-1 a 'whooping') No doubt tho, score sheet doesn't lie
they have had our number over the years and would LOVE to see the 'Cats sweep. Obviously for the points but just to close the gap some.. I expect it to be a very physical game with a lot more time in the box...hopefully them ha!
Go 'Cats!
