Tough loss. Tough crowd (att: 800?). Watched 24 NHL Draft choices and one of the top draft eligible North Americans play on an Olympic surface in Minnesota instead...

Uh oh, poor Dan has finally snapped, just looking for the accompanying hostage video next ...

I'm scratching my head on this one, stats sure make your team look better than the Sun Devils.

Stats Schmatts unfortunately. You got a team on a 13 game losing streak (yes, I count that shootout loss that HE/UNH call a tie) that put on a bunch of low percentage shots while giving up a lot of high quality chances. Add to that a coach who doesn't adjust to what the opponent is doing and try to get creative and you lose. UNH is doing a lot of that L word this year, to quote the hockey coach from Letterkenny, it's "F*#$ing embarrassing"

Well over 800, probably 2,000 or so. Unfortunately a good portion were ASU fans. Souza actually tried turn off the lights (portion of the lights on one end of the ice went out at the start of the second period and never came back on) to avoid further illumination of his complete incompetence.

From the Insider today:

UNH has hit the halfway mark of its 34-game regular season schedule with a 3-13-1 record and is counting on bouncing back after the break.

"This is why we're optimistic here, we know that it can turn on you that quickly in a positive way," said head coach Mike Souza. "That's all we've talked about, that this thing is going to turn and hopefully it starts Friday and if it's not Friday, hopefully it starts Saturday."

Then...just to cover if we lose tomorrow:

"I'm optimistic the fruits of their efforts will be shown in the second half."

“We are on to Schenectady.”

”But, coach, what about game 2 against the S Devils tomorrow night?”

”We are on to Schenectady.”

And now here's something we hope you'll really like!

Hockey East Team’s Pairwise Rankings after tonight (out of 62 teams)
6- Merrimack
8- UConn
9- Boston University
11- Providence
12- UMass
14- UMass-Lowell
22- Boston College
28- Northeastern
36- Maine
49- Vermont
54- UNH

Speaking of Merrimack, nice interview of Scotty Borek by Billy Jaffe on NESN after Bruins loss in Tempe (where?) tonight.

Merrimack vs Providence on NESN this Saturday night in case the Whitt is sold out.

“or more of the same”… guess I was being optimistic with the title. Oh how low we have sunk. Players must have zero confidence, and the head coach has no idea how to instill any. Someone on a social media post said that now (semester break) is the time to let Souza go. Couldn’t agree more, maybe give the players the feeling someone wants, or is at least trying, to improve things for them.

Bruins lost on a weird "was it icing" no call that AZ took advantage of. They played in ASU's new arena correct? In a pre game interview ASU's Mastrisimone said the facilities there are top notch. Wonder why hed leave BU...would think he had decent enough facilities (BU fans know the reason I suspect and obviously, players leave for a myriad of reasons)

The announcers last night said ASU has "be the tradition" culture building which they think is their recruiting calling card. Players wanna play here and create a future legacy. We sort of thought that Souza was recruiting on that; "we are building something great here that you can be a part of". In interviews that CHC gets in coming players cite our past so its not something they aren't aware of.

Our calling card had been our illustrious past which we've hung our hat on but with hockey we have pretty much rested on its laurels. I can still hear Marty say that when he mentions UNH people always bring up the hockey team. That was in the past, not now. This ALONE should be enough for Dr. Rich to be doing some SERIOUS soul searching as her 'flagship sport' flails away in abyss.

Anyway I know its not for lack of trying these players Im sure have been versed on 'Excellence Pride and Tradition' til it comes out of their ears ( sorry if I have that out of order). But as of now its all they have to hold onto and hope that they get a break tonight!!!

If not, at least, we have Schenectady to look forward to!

Say what you will but the effort was there most of the night. Very tough way to lose! db is correct on shot quality but something more should have gone in. All but the first ASU goal was a gift.
The Lights did actually come back on in the third. Was an interesting situation as Miller, or someone else, noticed that the concourse lights where out at one end. Poor ice level guy didn’t know what to do. The Assistant AD (I think) came down as did a young suit. Who knows, but they did finally figure it out. Hard to believe that the concourse lights could make that much of a difference but they do.
The worse news for me as we finally have disgruntled players. Not frustrated, clearly grousing about who knows what. Could be a real tough second half for our Captain and the coaches, you never want to lose “the team”.

Saw you on the the broadcast last night! And I think that most of us here feel that the effort is definitely there. Harrison Blaisdell is a good example of that; he has been giving his all and you can see that in other players as well. UNH was in this game until the unfortunate miscue by Fess, who, I hope will stay home in his net for future games as he's had too many close calls and last night well...(not saying the team lost because of that but it sure put the game out of reach).

And say what we will about Souza with his "I sound like a broken record' comment about scoring goals is of course, the bulk of the issue, giving them credit for effort. But that's up to HIM to fix that issue on the ice, or by recruiting players who CAN score goals. I believe we have these players...look at Liam Devlin. What's happened to him?? He was on fire. Then.....This has been the on going issue; player is decent as a freshman, then, doesn't develop much past that it seems/ snakebit I guess as he started out so well. They always seem to 'start out so well'. This is not new to this season. It's obvious what the real issue is. Everyone on this board knows what it is, and now most people in the stands know it. Hiow many paperbags on heads will there be tonight??

It already IS a long year..and its only going to get tougher I don't care who they play. Hoping the hockey Gods throw us a puck tonight; the team desperately needs it.

Students are stupid. They should be shouting at Umile and Scarano, not the poor guy put in over his head. Let him leave with dignity, and maybe when he's in his 50s he can apply his knowledge like another guy who killed a perennial champion program in five years, who licked his wounds for 15 years, and then returned to a HC job (Borek).
Getting knocked down by a painful learning experience is not the end.

And no, you don't fire a coach mid-year unless there's misconduct. Failing with dignity is a skill the HC will also be learning.

I can't help but feel Borek's joy at sticking it to Scarano (and Umile). He certainly was stung by being passed over, but got the last laugh.

He was a second liner in HS, a fourth liner in the USHL. Expecting more is not reasonable, despite his strong first year.

This team is rapidly becoming unwatchable. There is no hope that someone can turn it on or carry the team.

Fire Souza came out early today from the guys in my section.

Happy for the team!!! Did the autograph sesh to put names to faces and you could feel the outward relief.

We are indeed...onto Schnectady. Wishing all of you Happy Holidays!

I think my point here regarding Devlin is yes...I do expect to see growth here because he has shown he is capable...pointing out he isnt capable due to past stats makes sense..But when he shows he can score some goals going forward and then this stalls just speaks to me about player development under the current coachung staff.

This has been on going as has been pointed out here. Sure..if he had come in with a ton of points (I was not fully aware of his prior work being honest) then perhaps my analysis would be more valid and I get that.

So lets use this example with a player like LeClerc...who had a great weekend and contines to score consistanty. Players have up and down seasons to be fair here but lets just say he doesnt do much next season. Same point.

The team deserves a ton of credit for coming from behind last night and pulling off that win. Not saying they are going to rip off 10 straight W's but it was encouraging to see. This is still a young team not built of superstars but players who work hard and that paid off for them.

I re watched the last 10 mins of the game when I got home last night. I saw a determined group and that OT goal by Chase was amazing. He catches the puck that goes off Gagne? to score just beautiful. Good for them.
