UNH Men’s Hockey 22-23: the start of something new, or more of the same?

I continue to come on here because of the insight and passion that the posters have for UNH and the hockey team, but this only reminds me of how far we have fallen. The passion is not because of ANYTHING that has been done in the last 10 years, only from long before that.

At some point, wouldnt it behoove the AD to give the fandom, coach, players, admin, etc at least some small message that better days are ahead? Doesnt have to be some lengthy press release or letter, weave it in at a press conference or public appearance. Hell, just leak something to the press. The crickets coming from Durham are deafening to the people who care the most about the team, and paid a lot of its bills over the years thru Season Ticket and game ticket purchases.

We received the most recent plea for money from MS7 this past week, since we give to the 603 Challenge. Not sure this went to STH's...Outlined the positive things they are doing with the team, kind of non de script and obviously, not about the current season as you'd expect. Also a blurb from the captain about what UNH hockey has meant to him. Didn't mention what the 'wish list' is but (and I don't have the letter in front of me) looking for funds.

As per 'better days are coming' are you implying that this message would somehow indicate a change in the coaching regime? Or 'we are taking a strong look at the future of UNH Men's Hockey' (which to me would seem more likely if indeed such message were sent). Agree 100%...it would be nice.

Bummed I'm going to miss this weekend...will watch from home due to illness. Hope we can get a break this weekend we (and esp the team) need a W!!

HR's Predictions:

Friday: UNH 3 ASU 2
Sat: ASU 4 UNH 1

Short answer, no. What can she say at this point? It's becoming apparent nothing is going to happen until the offseason. In the meantime don't send me a nice email blowing sunshine. Instead I'll wait to spring and then say "do something", anything that tells us the current situation is unacceptable and change will be happening! Please no boiler plate emails or other communication until real changes are coming, I don't want or need to be placated.

There's actually 4 holdovers from the club days (and then the D1 recruits that played there last year while they waited to go D1)

There's a few kids from NH on that team too that could have helped the Wildcats offense. Zombo would help also. LOL. Guy's a great coach. They have more wins in their first season then UNH has this year - just to put things into perspective.

One of them went to "Virtural Learning Academy" which in NH is aka VLACS...an online charter school that I currently teach partime with. I've had a couple of ice hockey players take the PE course while they are in jrs but I do not recognize that one name.

Fair enough - but the point remains. There is a wide gap and that's why only four are holdovers...

Of this, I have no doubt.

A couple 10-bell saves in that 2nd period. Probably game over if Fessie doesn't get a glove on that.

Both goal tenders have been the story this evening...

EDIT: Fess is going to want that one back...(unlucky bounce of Huard)

A few rounds of "fuck Mike Souza" from part of the student section after the 2nd ASU goal
EDIT: And it wasn't the paper bag guys, either

From the Insider today:

UNH has hit the halfway mark of its 34-game regular season schedule with a 3-13-1 record and is counting on bouncing back after the break.

"This is why we're optimistic here, we know that it can turn on you that quickly in a positive way," said head coach Mike Souza. "That's all we've talked about, that this thing is going to turn and hopefully it starts Friday and if it's not Friday, hopefully it starts Saturday."

Then...just to cover if we lose tomorrow:

"I'm optimistic the fruits of their efforts will be shown in the second half."

I'll give their goaltender former NU transfer a ton of credit. But I cannot for the life of me understand, oh, I do understand. I just feel for this team...

Speaking of feeling for the team....

Souza looks pretty dejected at that presser. His comments:
UNH’s Head Coach Mike Souza after the game: “I feel like a broken record, we do a lot of good things. I feel for the kids, I feel for everyone associated with the group, it’s tough but you’ve got to find a way to score goals… it’s clearly not our effort.”
