UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

38 is better especially if it (mostly) fills in the Christmas break and makes a "bye" week 1 game instead of 0.
I can’t see them eating into winter break more than they have with tournaments between Christmas and New Years etc. My guess is you will see more of the random mid week games (usually seems like Tuesday is the most popular). They will be lightly attended, but I presume the same could be said with winter break games with students being off in break etc.

I also agree though that complete bye weekends would mostly go away. And those would turn into a one game weekend on Friday/Saturday.

Compared to some of the junior leagues/CHL, the college hockey schedule is pretty light in terms of number of games.

It may benefit UNH, as I imagine coach salaries would largely stay the same, but you’d get increased revenue from the additional few home games. This assumes a certain number of butts in seats though. And with mid week games/sparsely populated I don’t know what the “break even” number is.

Gameday! And I think we all hope it won’t be the final gameday until October…

As we have talked about. This should be (on paper) a winnable game against a NEU team on neutral turf. While the playoffs are probably not the best time to try substantially “new” things, the team has to realize what they have been doing offensively since the BU series has not been working - especially on the PP.

I said earlier in the week I predict 3-1 in favor of the huskies, but I could easily see it flip with the same score in favor of UNH. I believe it will be 1-1 heading into the 3rd, and whoever pots the go ahead will win by way of an additional ENG in the closing minutes.

As with many recent UNH games, it partly depends on how they come out in the first 4-5 minutes. I just hope it won’t be like what we saw at UMA, where the game was pretty much over after the 1st period…

Looking forward to tonight. Second season starts tonight. Let’s hope it lasts more than one game!

Was counting on my fingers this morning to Oct...7 months!! Here's hoping we can at least get a W tonight...it's on NESN fwiw dept.
Who's gonna be the hero tonight!?!?!

I'm less concerned about the first 4-5 minutes and more worried about the mid second period fade when their legs get tired and they then panic when the puck is in their own zone. It is at the PRECISE moment, their game goes to hell.

Yup this is when things get dicey.

The Uconn announcers had an interesting note 2 games back when UNH was hanging around, I will add my exceptions/notes in parenthesis. Essentially, if UNH could find offense they would be freaking scary (plus keep their legs all game). They play a hitting and forechecking game in your face (more early in games - see legs). They play solid defense (issue inconsistency over 60 minutes) and have a goalie that can steal games. They are comfortable in close / tight games (the issue has been the second it starts getting away). They can control the game by being dominate at the dot, as the 6th best faceoff team in the country.

KC tied for lead in shut outs with five so UNH will need a sixth from him for any chance to win, but who on UNH can score a goal? Buehler?
Well I have no idea. Just saying we need a hero. At this point...that's all we have. Good points jb and Grouch. When you are constantly playing D it's just a matter of time before that gives way.
Fun fact..their top 3 goal scorers put in 40 goals this season our top 3 score 27. Any coach who has a clue will tell you the thing you struggle with all season bites you in the post season...so with that knowledge...

NU 3 UNH 1

You know what else they say tho....offense wins games, defense wins championships ;) :ROFLMAO:

I can agree with this sentiment. I bring up the first 4-5 minutes because there have been a number of games where they come out very flat and dig themselves a 2-3 goal they can never get out of. This hasn’t happened as much late, but earlier in the year I thought it was more common.

Given the comments regarding tiring in the 2nd/3rd (I agree here) - why do we think that is a continued issue? Are they not conditioning enough during the week? Max 2 games a week is not that much when you look at some other leagues… It could also be it is more tiresome for smaller guys to go max effort when going against 6’6” big guys that other teams may have.

Curious what others think - if it’s just conditioning that’s sometime that should have been addressed by the coaching I would think…

Game Day! Northeastern essentially started UNH's downfall with a sweep in January (the boys were 11-8 at the time). From that series we went 0-6-1. Conversely, however, NE proceeded to go on an 0-5-1 stretch. Both teams have had similar struggles in the second half (NE with no home ice and UNH not sustaining their momentum). I still like our chances tonight. I fully expect the boys to continue to play hard. I am going to predict a 2-1 UNH win, then onto Providence (unless VT upsets BU) for a shot at getting to the Garden. Go Cats!!

Conditioning has been a systemic issue through the tenure of MS7.

UNH is a small team compared to its Hockey East brethren, and historically has been. Once upon a time, when we had the Olympic sheet, we could offset the size differential by having a roster of water bugs like Saviano or Collins who could wear out the opposition on the big sheet with speed and agility.

Now that we are playing standard size, the roster isn't overly big with only as handful of thumpers while our competition has 3.5 lines of Paul Bunyons and Siberian bears.

That UNH is tiny compared to the "thumpers" around them is no longer accurate (thanks AI, unless there are errors then damn AI)

UMass Lowell6' 0.5"191.5 lbs

Merrimack6' 0.3"189.6 lbs
UConn6' 0.3"189.4 lbs
Northeastern6' 0.2"188.7 lbs

UNH this year is just below average (sorted by weight) and the difference top to bottom isn't that great. Heck the middle 7 teams are with in 2 lbs (191.6 to 189.6).

As if those numbers have been validated. Cy lists himself at 5'10 when he is closer to 5'6. I used to bust Cafarelli himself about listing himself one year at 6'1" when he is 5'9" on a big hair day. Take the "official" heights and weights with a major grain of salt.

My eyes don't deceive me when UNH looks absolutely tiny compared to other teams.
