UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

Can we just hire Borek?
It does make one wonder how differently things would have played out for the last decade-plus.

Fortunately OR unfortunately, that ship has long ago sailed, when Blue Skies gave Umile the opportunity to pick his own successor, as a quid pro quo to retire.

I still think the biggest coaching "what if" in UNH history is, what if Coach McCloskey was still in the U's good graces by the time Coach Umile's downslide was under way ... would Coach Mac have been offered a chance to switch over, and if so, would he have accepted it? As is stands, we're not likely to ever know.

Other big (and older) historical "what ifs" would include, "what if Bob Kullen never got sick?", and "What if Coach Bjorkman never left for UND?". C'est la vie ...

I misspoke, as NPI now replaces PWR for 2025-2026 NCAA postseason brackets. At the moment, UNH is #1, once again champions of early October.

Looked up NPI. No list. Just an explanation of it.

Looked up NPI. No list. Just an explanation of it.

One of the "Collar Up" boys (a reference from long ago on this forum) over at The Heights has coded an NPI look-alike that matches the changes to PWR now being incorporated into the "official" NCAA-wide NPI rankings not yet released:

"Here's the men's NPI, which will of course be pretty noisy until we get more of a sample size for everyone: https://www.bcinterruption.com/bost...50462/2025-2026-ncaa-mens-hockey-npi-rankings"

Since the PWR rankings the last few years all but mimiced straight RPI once components like "Record vs. TUC teams," Record Over Last 10 Games,"
etc. were eliminated over time, it seems that the NCAA push to adopt a standard ranking across all its various sports has all but succeeded. College Hockey was a pioneering innovator when it chose to use the PWR rankings (whose components were constantly in flux in response to perceived slights to various teams) vs. the dreaded "smoke filled room;" I'd like to think that decision helped pave the way for objective ranking systems to become the norm ...
