UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

UNH in 6th now since Providence got a point and they lost tie breaker with UMass even if UMass loses to Maine. The tie breaker ended up being conference win percentage, slight edge to UMass. So win Wednesday and we will welcome you to Alfond next Saturday!

I am good with UNH locking up 6th. Now the pressure is on MS7 to lead his team to wins tonight and in the MBPBEGAM game on Wednesday for a 20-win season. Considering that I predicted only eight wins in a UNH friends and family pre-season pool, I remained amazed by the results this year.

From the fans watching at home … how was Stiven’s interview? He tried to blow by her. (insert big grin face)

I think he said Id rather be a Wildcat in Durham NH than a black bear in Orono ME or knifed in Lowell MA.

Devlin being Devlin. Man this guy takes so many stupid penalties.

Watching some of the NESN replay angles, I was surprised that Cafarelli did not get five also.

Nice interview by Morgan Winters. And excellent replay of the classic Ralph Cox vignette.

Speaking of the PK, BC scored two shorties late in second to tie up Mack 2-2.

Legendary. Like the Slavic version of the old SNL Chico Esquela baseball skit. "Ockey been bery bery goot to me".

Natalie asked two creampuff questions; Sardarian picked the key word in each question, and basically responded by repeating it several times. Talk about ESL. Both seemed happy to get the "interview" over quickly.

LOL. I don't think SS7 gets to that part of his Rosetta Stone Russian-to-English course until next season, e.cat.

Senior year will be dedicated to "Show Me the Rubles", "Shuffle Off to Buffalo" and "Make America Great Again".

My understanding is Cy Leclerc will be helping him with the last bit ... ;-)

20 wins now well within reach ... lots of quality discussion during the broadcast about the trite cliche "it'll be hard to beat the same opponent three times in a row". To his credit, MS7 avoided it in the NESN postgame by simply invoking the other easy out, which is the greatness of the opposing coach, postseason accomplishments, etc. Speaking of which ... this is only Bazin's second losing season out of 13 seasons at Lowell, and really the first outright bad season he's ever had in charge. One does wonder if he's starting the "Umile fade" section of his career??

But kudos to Normie, UML locked it down for the final 35+ minutes to salvage another 4-0 waxing (j/k 'Ref). I've never seen a UNH team push a Bazin team around like they did this weekend, reminiscent of how UNH pushed UMaine around during "White Out" weekend. If this is the kind of intensity and focused physical play that UNH can turn into a habit, I can be talked back into the pro-MS7 camp. "Just win baby" indeed.

Before I forget ... I noticed while watching the replay of Friday night's game, there was a huge amount of space behind both nets at Tsongas, not unlike the trend a generation ago to expand the area behind the goal lines. Is that a thing in Lowell? Is there an HEA accommodation that allows it to be different than pretty much everywhere else? Nigel??

Funniest thing I saw behind the goal in the student section this weekend:

Low
Lower
Lowest
Lowell

Great wins this weekend 'Cats! Can do without those penalties...

But hey how's 'bout that PP with 2 goals? Just keep winning 'Cats...and yeah you can beat a team 3 times.

Let's gooo 'Cats!

Good weekend for the team against a team that is bad. This is UML 20 years ago. Here are my questions/thoughts

1. Is 20 wins so important you play the #1 goalie in HE tonight?
2. Can you set expectations low for Wednesday after the back to back shutouts?
3. When hopefully the playoff game is done, can you maintain composure and not get bounced for Saturday?

Tonight was a perfect chance to rest guys and MS7 I believe was more concerned with the paycheck than the good of the team. Give Moose some real reps, play the seniors, and protect players from potential suspensions.

Gotta love LeClerc

That's all good stuff Chuck especially the "Show me the Rubbles". Who could be the lead? I'll go with Adam Schiff in the starring role in that one. Haha
