UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

I just hope that we get a rematch with Umaine in the quarterfinals. The blackbears are not the strong team they were to begin the year, I could see UNH having a great chance to beat them to advance to the semis.

I can tell you right now that if it shakes out that way we would gladly welcome you guys to Orono, may the best team win.

Except, the games would be in Orono which has always been a house of horrors for UNH. Not sure I would "hope" for a rematch.

I believe that there would be only one (single elimination) game in Orono, as the best two of three games in the HEA (and AHA) quarterfinals have been thankfully dropped.

True..but any time we play away it's a house of horrors...or can be.

Like tonight at Tsongas? The Ospreys will set their low point with wins at home tonight whether they win or lose, as they stand at two wins this season with their previous low at four wins (twice).

Whoever locks the 3 seed this is highly unlikely but say they lose in the first round of the Hockey East tournament, would that mean we would have to play one of the top 2 seeds in the quarterfinals? Want to avoid playing BC or BU as long as possible.

No worries there. How does next November work?? 'Cuz that's the earliest you can expect it to happen ...

Unbelievable....welp up 1 zip early in here's hoping our Friday Nite is better than it has been...but believe me I've been to a few games here where we got killed...

Go 'Cats

So its a Friday night AWAY game...what could possibly go wrong? UML has 2, 2 W's at home this season...will the 'Cats bring their A game? Or struggle from the get go,
never get going like they have been known to do on Friday night away games. (except for Yukon...that was an amazing game).

UML has nothing to lose, 'Cats need to show they are for real getting a W at the Tsongas which I assume, will be Sr. night for them.

HR's predicts:

Friday: UNH 1 UML 1 (UNH wins SO)
Sat: UNH 3 UML 1

Come on 'Cats! End the RS with a bang!

You were the only who had the guts to predict scores this weekend, HR, but thankfully no need for shoot out tonight. :-)

They reseed after each round in the Hockey East tournament. Highest seed gets lowest seed, 2nd highest seed gets 2nd lowest seed ...

If we win at the Whitt tomorrow night, we will tie our highest number of wins since 2014/15 season. If we also win the MBPBEGAM game the following weekend, we will tie our highest number of wins since the 2013/2014 season. Hard to believe that either of these milestones does not get MS7 at least a two-year contract extension. And lest we forget that MS7 has put fannies back in seats at the Whitt and attracted “big time” donors.

Dunno, Chuck, you proposing a Fan Forum conspiracy here? Grouchy joined the Forum on 11-10-2018 (is that “long-time old-time”?), does not reveal a location, and last posted on 3-01-2023, so, yeah, maybe overdue for a post, although not as easy to be grouchy this season. Contrast with TwoStep93 who joined the Forum on 1-16-2022 (is that “long-time old-time?), reveals Jackson, Wyoming, as a location, and posted this week. Need a link to the Twilight Zone soundtrack here.

I may not be long-time old-time by forum standards but long-time old-time runs in my blood! Great win tonight!

So lets play this out with the last day of the regular season upon us and it was mentioned on the broadcast UNH could still get a bye.

Top 3 seeds are set, BC, BU, and Maine

Let's say Maine beats UMass and Northeastern wins against PC while UNH takes care of business and there is a 3 team tie for 5th with 36 points

UNH would be 12-11-1-1-0-0
PC would be 11-10-3-3-1-2
UMass would be 12-10-2-4-2-0

UMass would be 4th as they have a higher winning percentage. UNH would sneak past PC I believe setting up a potential game in Amherst next weekend.

Congratulations to Coach Mike Souza, who with tonight's win clinches his first-ever winning record as UNH head coach.

Two more gets him to 20 wins ... three more (or possibly just two more, after tomorrow) gets his team to Boston, for sure.

I'm still not ready to even give him a one year extension 'til I see how his team performs over these next two games ...

It just boggles the mind where UNH could be right now if they won/tied one (1) more winnable HEA game last month ...

Once they heard you were all in they went ahead and prepared the papers and inked him to a long term extension.

I'm very happy to get the W at Tsongas tonight. They locked us down in the 3rd but that is a Norm Bazin trademark.

Congrats to Jakob Hellsten for the shutout and Harrison Blaisdell potting two. That line was great tonight..
The 'Cats got right to it and hoping for more of the same tomorrow!

Wrong on the score but that's ok...

LOL. You mean the "long term extension" that has yet to be revealed to anyone except you, right?? ;-)

Hard to believe any UMaine-iacs are threatened by the possibility UNH might do what UMaine did, i.e. get rid of a long-time mediocre coach and take a swing at a new guy who might resurrect a key rival. What's the worry, sparky??

I mean, I wouldn't really say we "got rid" of the guy before this one...
