Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

The hiring of Greg Carvel at UMass is a negative for UNH- big budget and backing from the head of UMass system who helped Lowell turn it around

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

Nice '98 pick up for Michigan State today - a team with garbage facilities, a dead coach walking and in even more dire straights than UNH. Though, maybe Khodorenko visited East Lansing during the Wildcat weekend and thinks hes joining a juggernaut...??

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

Khodorenko has played hockey in Michigan (Honeybaked & NTDP) for the last 4 years. He is a center who, if he actually enrolls at Michigan State, would be a freshman next fall. He was not a target of UNH. He was considering BC, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. The Silvertips of the WHL have been hot on his trail for 3 years and probably haven't given up yet.

Am really, really excited about Patrick joining the 'Cats in the Fall...do you expect him to make an immediate impact??

A line of BvR (left shot LW), Liam Blackburn (left shot Center) and Patrick Grasso (right shot RW) would be fun to watch.

Easier said than done. Unless UMass Amherst hired Coach Bazin, I really don't see this hire of a just over .500 ECAC coach being that big a deal. Hopefully UNH is focused on getting back to the top tier of HE - not just staying ahead of traditional cellar-dweller programs like UMass. If this is even on Souza's radar, we are in deep doo doo.

I wouldn't look to much into Carvel's record the first 2 years. The cupboard at St Lawrence was so bare before he got there. The last 2 years should be something you should look more at. Two top 4 finishes with trips to lake placid each year. The program was well on its way back.

There's a big difference between the cupboard being bare, and the well being poisoned.

A recruit might speak 50 languages. Doesn't matter. The admissions requirement is a number of high school years studying a second language.

Not only getting North Americans, but DU also lines up late impact kid from Finland. Too bad we're not allowed to get them.

Excellent point! I saw that on Twitter, too - who cares where they come from, just find the best kids. What an off the wall strategy! I've mentioned before that the coach I wish had been slotted to replace Umile is/was the Penticton coach. But that would require of an athletic department with knowledge of the NCAA hockey landscape, the work-ethic to network and research potential hires, as well as the foresight and patience to host an open search as opposed to simply bowing to the whims of the person who dug this hole in first place...

If UNH had made that move, I'd expect we'd be seeing VERY similar recruiting strategies AND results to those of DU. Even if I was off-base with my hopes that Jost, Fabbro, Conway and Mendel, etc., would have followed their junior coach to Durham...

We may have covered this topic before, but are we the first to have such a succession plan?

Re: UNH Commits & Recruiting: 2016 and Beyond

Gotta admit it's challenging to read all the "DU" references in this thread, and figuring out which ones apply to the school out west, and which pertain to the current UNH Men's head hockey coach.

I look at it that the ones that make sense refer to Denver and the ones that don't refer to UNH
