Watcher.. or anyone else in manchester.. Durham, NH native.. Evan Shultz.. moving from the moving from the Portland Jr. Pirates last yr.. Metro Jr.B's 42-28-33-61 line. played a whole 11 games for the Empire squad for the Jr. Monarchs w/ an 11-6-12-18 line and now 1-1-0-1 with the EJHL team..

What's the scoop with him? He's moving up quickly for a 16yr old.. gotta be getting the attention of some.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

I too am interested in Schultz. He is pretty short too, which is good for my personal entertainment.

I wouldn't be surprised (if he does get a lot of interest) if he gets scooped up by Maine, UMV or BC. UNH gets kids plucked from their backyard yearly.

Would of liked to of gotten Gacek.

I was noticing another guy on the Monarchs.....

I think he'd have to be an '11 recruit, given Laleggia, Knodel and Agosta already in the fold.

I see all these "targets" on the recruits blog, but we keep getting people who are not on that list.
If you guys don't mind my asking, what blogs are you referring to? I follow recruiting for Lowell, but in 9 cases out of 10, I have no idea who Lowell's going after till they get him (if Lowell doesn't, I don't usually find that out either). :(

I'm pretty sure this is the blog he was referring to.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Random observation: UNH is only graduating 2 forwards and 1 d-man after this year and there are basically zero flight risks. However, there are 3 d-men (Laleggia, Knodel, Agosta) and 3 or 4 forwards (Reid, Downing, Sorkin+Silengo listed as a 10/11) slated to matriculate in the fall. I realize that they are playing this year with only 7 d-men plus AIA as a f/d, but could it be that they are preparing themselves for a scenario in which not everyone ends up in Durham in the fall? It would make sense that they staff would not want to end up in a tight spot like last spring when they lost Bourque, White and Dries.

Exactly, '11 at the earliest. Interesting that he came East to play, rather than the USHL.. He's alredy 18.5.. Spend a yr in the USHL after this one?? People posting certainly seem to be bullish on his possible upside. I'd like to see a 6'2 D man who can skate and handle the puck and too..

Hardowa, Knodel, Agosta and TVR would be one mean looking D core. BIG!

you also expect Kessel to depart after '10? I'm still not buying it.. for whatever reason. I see him as a 4 yr guy.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

So I checked out the Indiana Ice game tonight as Indiana has two UNH recruits, Goumas and Agosta and Fargo has Campbell in goal.

First player I noticed on the ice was was McDermott from Fargo. Looked pretty smooth and in control on D. Noticed St. Clair for Fargo as well. Wideman and Dowd for Indiana also looked good.

Now for the UNH folks: Goumas had two goals while I was there. He didn't get much ice time in the two periods I watched. His goals were a result of great positioning. He was right where he should have been, stick down and in position to receive the two passes. No one on D picked him up although he was camped out on the weak side post. I will keep an eye on him as he looked the part.

My first impressions of Agosta - the kid is big - not only tall, but he is wide as well. I am not sure that Lake Whitt is going to be the best ice surface for him to play the majority of his college career on. I will have to see him some more, but he did not appear tonight to have great wheels for an Olympic size rink.

Campbell came in about half way through the second to relieve the starting goalie. Did not see much. Made a great save on a 2 on 1. But Goumas must have been pleased as his second goal was on Campbell. No D took Goumas and Campbell tried to slide to the far post to get there, but could not make it in time.

I'll try and keep going to games to see what happens. Was expecting a better quality of game. Fargo looked like they had bus legs.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

So, does Agosta skate as bad as advertised or is it oveblown? As long as he can stand his ground and put a few guys on the ice when needed.. that's ok!!

Goumas supposidly has some wheels?? confirmed?

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

I know there was a good deal of talk about his skating when he committed, but I did not see anything that made me think he was completely out of place. I just did not notice a great deal of speed last night. Maybe he just didn't need the extra gear last night. I'm no scout.

On Goumas - as I said he did not have a ton of ice time, but he looked similar in play to Wideman - who I did notice was out there a good deal an in some key times. I haven't looked, but I think this Goumas's first year in the USHL and if he is there for two I think he will develop very nicely.

I'll try and go tonight and get another look. I think Campbell will get the start in net tonight for Fargo.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Goalie will be a big wildcard next year. Campbell has potential, but his save percentage is below average.

The D will be very competitive if Kessel returns and if Laleggia shows up. Kostalansky can handle the puck, and suddenly you have at least three skill guys back there. Add a further experienced Kipp and 6'6 Knodel, and you've suddenly got a pretty good D corps.

Up front offense will be a problem, as you lose two best forwards. For the long you are bring in three guys of equal talent (though the production won't be the same sr vs. Fr.). The improvement will come from this year's frosh. Hopefully henrion and speelman and burke get it. If everything stays together, next year could be interesting, and the year after even better. After all the years of elite forwards and goalies, they'll now have elite D but no elite F or G.

I have the impression that they think Wyer can be an elite goalie.

speaking of the Monarchs and goalie's.. Out of nowhere... 16yrs old and steeling the show from Billett? 10-1 as a rookie in the ECHL? Yikes.. tell me that he's always dreamed of going to UNH since it's like 25-30 minutes from home. He must have seen plenty of K.Regan!

Nope, apparently he always dreamed of backstopping UMass Lowell

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

I thought I has seen an 'Eiserman' committ to them.. Kid pulled the trigger pretty early. I guess he could have gone to MC if he really wanted to be close to home.

Ummmm... Billett was out with an injury and hadn't played for over a month, just coming back this week.

Things worked out great for the kid, BB gets hurt, he comes in and does well, gets his scholarship and commits before BB comes back.
