UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Every year we wonder where UNH's goals are going to come from and every year someone (or several) step up to shoulder the load

they will be fine, finish in 3rd or 4th in HE and around 11th nationally, make the show, and watch BC hoist yet another HE and NC trophy

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

total wasted pick, zero chance he would go there

I don't think there's any chance he would go there either, but it's not really a huge waste considering it was the end of the draft. I see it as more of a good sign that they would value him enough to select him.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Just got back from the Indiana Ice camp All-Star game, some good players out there. I'm a goalie dad so I watched them more so than the forwards and Defense. I don't think there were any UNH recruits out there but there sure should be if not.

Jon Gillies came out to the camp, wow! Northeastern will really love this kid, I can't see him waiting till 2013 this kid looked ready for Junior A now. Gillies was very mobile for his size and had very good goalie sense. Anyone know if UNH was on his radar at all, Darn shame we didn't get this kid. Talked to Bruce a bit at the end of the game, nice guy.

If UNH is looking for a goalie for 2013-2014 they need to be going after this kid Eric Comrie now. Comrie is a 95 birth year 15 year old from the LA selects and he was out there with 18-19-20 year olds and looked strong. A year behind Gillies this kid will be as good if not better in goal.

Some of the defenseman looked good, but not ones that I expected. I was suprised to see Tim Smith-D out there, didn't he play for Providence last season? Three D that are already recruited looked ok to me but really didn't wow me like I expected: Sam Rendle - Bemidji, Nick Mattson - North Dakota and Luke Juha - Clarkson. The defense pair that impressed me the most was Patrick Pollock from the Indiana Jr. Ice U18 team and Ryan Obuchowski from Detroit Catholic Centeral. Neither seemed too keen on making rushes but both were solid defensively. I know Pollock because he is a local Indiana kid but I have a feeling he will be noticed soon, this kid is solid on his skates and finishes checks well and is a crisp passer. He just turned 17 so has a couple years to mature but he is a sleeper to keep an eye out on.

Offensively I didn't see much. Alex Wideman and Frankie DeAugustine from the Ice last season both looked good very good skaters and seemed to be all around the puck making plays. DeAugustine has more size than Wideman but Wideman seemed a bit quicker. Two other kids to look for are Cody Bradley and Sebastian Romeo. Romeo has good size needs to work on stick skills but as a 16-17 year old he did not look lost at all out there. Bradley is another Florida kid, think he played in Ontario this past year. He also was solid even though a bit underaged (he just turned 16) he should be on teams radars now.

Mattson gets by on reputation and previous hype. A solid player for sure but not close to what they want you to think

Have you had an opportunity to see Cody Campbell play (e.g., in a Cedar Rapids v. Indiana game)? If so, how does he compare to the goalie prospects who have impressed you? Thanks.

No I didn't get a chance to see him this past season but I'll make sure to go to one of the Cedar Rapids games here this coming season. Campbell sounds like a real solid prospect especuially if he builds upon his 2nd half of his 2009-2010 season.

In this article from the Valley News on Martin Ouellette (the incoming goalie for Maine), Kimball Union Academy in Meridan, NH is portrayed as a potential source of youngsters from Quebec who have their eyes on the NCAA rather than the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League:

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

The NHL draft ended today, with zero UNH prospects being selected despite a number of them being mentioned as late round possibilities (Thrush, Sorkin, Downing).

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

If UNH is fortunate enough to make it to the Frozen Four over the next few years, it won't be with a lineup of numerous NHL draft picks on their roster. It will be with prospects like Joey Laleggia, Grayson Downing, Nick Sorkin, Casey Thrush, and Cody Campbell - guys who were mentioned in scouting reports as having a chance of being drafted in the late rounds of the NHL Entry Draft, but were not selected. Assuming that these players will not give up on their dream of playing professional hockey, what would be the best case scenario for them and UNH? The path that Bobby Butler followed. Work hard as an individual and team player and distinguish yourself over a four-year NCAA career.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

On June 5th, the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League selected UNH recruit Mike Vecchione in the 12th round (214th overall) of the QMJHL Entry Draft. Vecchione is now listed as a player "expected" to attend the Mooseheads Training Camp beginning August 18th.

Does anyone have any further information?

Its because they are borderline retarted up there. He has never spoken to them and in a million years would not go there.
They have blogs up there disussing what line he is going to be on

Is not going to there camp. Didnt even go to Tri Citys camp this year, which is where he will be skating next season after he graduates this year at Malden Catholic

His dream his whole life has been UNH. Family is very close to Serino and him and Umile have been life long friends. UNH all the way

Thanks for the info. I noticed that he (Vecchione) played in the Bay State Summer Games last weekend but doesn't appear to be participating in the current Junior Chowder Cup.
