UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

I do think we need to find someone to replace Reid for sure. Anyone have any info on David Killip?
Will they look for a late commit at forward? (David Killip please).
Killip was the 11th leading scorer in the British Columbia Hockey League with 32 goals and 42 assists in 60 games. I wasn't able to find anything about college or NHL interest in him, which doesn't make sense given his outstanding season as an 18 year old (he turned 19 on March 31st).

At 5'10" and 155 pounds, maybe he's a Micflikier or Moses type.
According to the Salmon Arms Silverbacks website, David Killip's ambition is to earn a NCAA Division 1 scholarship.

Can he pass the entrance exams?

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

Yes.. - And I'm sure there was reason that he was enticed to arrive 1yr ahed of schedule. I'd be surprised if it was to collect splinters.

Rumor is that the coaching staff thought Campbell could use another year, then possibly take over for 2011. Wyer didnt exactly tear it up this year, I don't think he will see much if any playing time this year. I hope Tyler Scott gets a chance.

I've always been of the opinion that Campbell is the future. It would make sense to me if Wyer only got the 2010-11 'invite' once it was decided that Campbell would play another year in the USHL...

I'd think it has to be the Digirolamo show this year - of course, if they can't score it wont matter who is in net...

Would be very disappointed to see Downing defer to 2011 - no Laleggia, Downing or Campbell makes for a pretty bleak 2010 class. INCH's pre-season #9 ranking already seems awfully optimistic...

JVR has wheels....Burke not so much.....listen to the annoucer..

Never said JVR was slow - just not that fast, there is a big difference in those two statements.

I would estimate he is average to just above average for a NHL forward (not shabby at all), I have never put a stop watch on any NHL player, my estimate is from watching game situations. Certainly never seen elite speed out of JVR - by elite we are talking Pavel Bure type speed.

Some of what you see in the video is JVR coming off the bench fresh vs guys that have been out there.

I would agree Burke is not nearly as fast as JVR.

Going to need another top 3 line center….DeSimone and Borisenok are 2……Manz can handle the 4th line…..need another center…who?
Perhaps the plan is for Grayson Downing, a center with a left shot, to come this fall and compete for the 2nd or 3rd line center position.

looked at the jr Warriors roster a while ago and their D crew was made up of almost entirely rookies and older ones at. I translated that to mean that they we're very good and that Wyer was there to get a lot of rubber thrown at him, which he did. I come back to, why would a kid come in early to ride the pine when he could be starting and playing almost every game and getting better?

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

because jr hockey is a grind and some kids want to move on and start college

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

The Campbell-Wyer switcharoo was mostly a product of Campbell having an awful first half of the season with Fargo (3.19 GAA and .846 Save % on a great team). This was when the decision was made to accelerate Wyer and give Campbell another year in the U. Campbell was traded to Cedar Rapids at the midway point of the season and played fantastically (1.90 GAA .933 Save % on a mediocre team) for the Rough Riders. There is no doubt that he is the goalie of the future for UNH.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

...and playing D1 college hockey and maintaining a full course load is less a grind than juniors? Brilliant.

as usual you dont get it and try and add to the discussion with a useless post

The grind is going sideways and playing jr hockey only. Almost every kid would benefit by playing another year or 2 or jr's but many want to go to college and enjoy the experience. Many kids have decommitted and gone to another school because they were told to play another year. The D picked up a couple days ago by Northeastern is the perfect example

UNH recruit Casey Thrush (5-5-92) was the 6th player chosen in the United States Hockey League's Entry Draft this morning. He was selected by the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

Maxim Gaudreault (7-15-92) was the 19th player selected. He was chosen by the Sioux City Musketeers.

Mike Vecchione taken in the 16th round by Tri-City.
Prior to Mike Vecchione being selected at #233, the various USHL teams had "passed" on 77 other selection slots. Does that mean that Vecchione was selected as the 156th player overall?

Yes. In today's draft, once a team got to the point where they had 23 players on their roster, they had to pass on their picks until each team had 23. At that point, the draft continued until each team had 30.

Re: UNH commitments/recruits for 2010 and beyond

They know he is finishing up at MC first and will be heading out for 2011/2012 season and maybe but probably not one more.

Tri City is a good spot for him. Fast team with an open style of play.

Nice!

Although.. I'm assume the city/st is either a home town or a place of birth.

2 kids from NH(one, a '95 playing out of California) Not too bad for a '95.

2 or 3 from NC.. ? IS NC youth hockey on par with NH? Really?

I don't know how youth hockey in the Maryland/D.C. area compares with New Hampshire but there seems to be some steady progress being made by Team Maryland:

If Nick Sorkin, Casey Thrush and Maxim Gaudreault end up having accomplished college careers, then someone will deserve credit for scouting out a new source of quality prospects. Time will tell.
