UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

Couple of points Snivs, with all due respect. They are winning the games they should. They went 2-0-1 with NU. They are 8-1-2 since the Providence losses (without N. Jenson who has been arguably their best defenseman since returning). They have improved significantly since the start of the season and the only cupcake OOC has been RPI, all others have winning records. Sweep UConn and look out for the Cats

I disagree, as UNH should have won their tie games against Mac and NU. And, please check cupcake RIT’s record, which is perhaps the worst in their history. Our nine OOC wins are against teams with much worse PWR and SOS numbers than our own. Quinnipiac 17/33, LIU 21/43, Dartmouth 25/26, Bentley 29/54!, Princeton 32/35, RPI 48/57!, RIT 62/62! If Dick had an OOC cupcake schedule like this year’s, he might have made his elusive NRR.

As I posted earlier, we need to sweep Yukon, UMass-Flagship, and UVM if we want any hope of our first NCAA’s in over a decade. Splits with any of these three teams will not get it done.

More of what Ferrrao and Jellsy are pitching and less of whatever the rest of you smelly curmudgeons are stewing in around here. Agreed that that the real season begins now but this team is playing great hockey and has only played two less conference games than the likes of Maine, BU, Lowell, etc.

You call us “smelly curmudgeons” I call us realists. Hope I’m wrong!

Someone gets it

but to be fair, at least uhn beat the teams they should have beaten

172 people at last night's basketball game. (Not sure if that number includes the Albany fan who got tossed out of Lundholm for the show he put on after his kid got ejected from the game.)

Either way, Yikes.

Sorry Snives but sweeping UCONN, UMASS and UVM just ain't going to happen!

I think we are in about the same shape as last year, with a very similar record, maybe even a bit worse off, IMO. This year we are in the cellar of Hockey East (albeit with games in hand) compared to 4 Hockey East wins last year to date. Last year you could argue we were equal with Maine, but have been leap-frogged. BU, BC are in a different class, Providence is solidly better, and UML a tick better. Trying to be optimistic, but UNH has a huge hill to climb if they want to make the NCAAs.

UML "a tick better" ?

How far UNH has fallen when even the most hardcore fanbase is critical (when they are winning). They have only played 7 HE games people. The talent is there, if you are watching the games. They need the fan base to get behind them. (forever optimistic).

Analyzing the upcoming strength of the schedule and making results-based predictions is being "critical" of the team? If you want to believe UNH will win 10, 11, or even 12 of the remaining games that's your prerogative. I'm 100% "behind" the team, I'm just pragmatic. The 'Cats have been on a good run starting last season, and sure there is talent, just not top-tier championship-level skill. UNH still needs to improve its pieces to compete consistently for the top of Hockey East. I'm not criticizing effort, it's there. But, UNH has one scorer in the top 30 (yes just one) and only 2 more in the top 75, goaltending is 20th in the nation. UNH's talent is nowhere near top-tier, excluding maybe Conmy. If this is "critical" so be it. As a fan, I'm not satisfied with mediocre, like it or not that is what UNH is.

Well exactly this! I see myself as a pragmatic fan as well and couldn't agree more. Love the optimism tho nothing wrong with that. But to really contend...we all know what it takes...top tier goal tending (Da Whale has done better than anticipated) not to mention consistent scoring from more than 1-2 players...lock down D....I mean...we have a few of the pieces but you need more. Still love 'em!!!

If this team makes it to the Garden to me that's huge...and/or the Regional...Ill die as a happy fan...ha!

Go 'Catttsssss!!!

Maine has only one scorer in the top 30 (yes just one). Providence has only one scorer in the top 30 (yes just one). Most of the higher level scorers in the conference have played more games. One could argue that Leclerc, Devlin, and Conmy are all top tier players and Conmy is a star. The defense is, in my opinion, the second best in the conference. PK is 7th in the country (yes in the country). The fish will be flying early tonight to continue the countdown to 20 wins. This is far from a mediocre team. Top recruit Macpherson cant crack the lineup because they have talent going 4 lines deep. My opinion is as pragmatic!! (and forever optimistic)!

I think d.gerry said it best.

A lot of us have been season ticket holders for many years. You ask "How far has UNH fallen?" If you have been a fan for many years, then you have answered your own question. If you're a new fan, then study UNH's history over the last ten years and you will understand why us "smelly curmudgeons" tend to be pragmatic when the team is doing well. Trust us, we have seen this movie play over time and time again.

But know this....if this team succeeds and makes it to the NCAA's, ALL OF US will be cheering loudly :-)

One can argue neither of those teams (especially Providence - Maine is making leaps and bounds getting there) has yet to reach the upper echelons of Division I. Sorry, but LeClerc and Devlin are very good no question, but hardly top tier. 17 pts half way through the season, c'mon Krog, Mowers, Gare, Haydar could have that many points after a good weekend ;). Conmy, IMO, is the only one who is close.

As Scott said, "if this team succeeds and makes it to the NCAA's, ALL OF US will be cheering loudly" 100%

Cheering loudly now might actually help them get there ;)

Hey I'm dragging myself to this game but might not cheer too loudly! Of course I want a calendar not gonna lie haha!
Now if I can convince them to let us park in alumni...

Just tell them "do you know who I am"?!?. Also heading over there tonight.

No more cupcakes, the real season starts tonight. While I consider myself less optimistic than some, I acknowledge that UNH is playing well. Before the season began, someone predicted that Jared Whale would post similar numbers to Jakob Hellsten. I was very skeptical of this prediction, but it has proven to be spot on. Kudos to whoever predicted that, and apologies for being too lazy to scroll back to give due credit. UNH does an excellent job of limiting opposing shots, which seems to benefit the goalies. Based on my observations, I'd still choose Hellsten between the two, but the statistics show they are essentially equal.
