UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

The "too" much passing happens to be instances of trying to make highlight reel passes between the legs, drop passes and the like. That said, watch when the puck is skated across the blue line, comny and cy hold on to that puck like saviano on a penalty kill

LOL absolutely fair take. Sometimes you gotta let the alpha dogs alpha, Grouchy ... :p

I predict Trump will win the popular vote and Electoral College putting democrats hair on fire. I'll give you my prediction on the Maine game Saturday.

I'd ordinarily be tempted to ask for your stock market tips after that, e.cat ... but I think the former Speaker from the other side of the aisle (D - Baltimore/SF) seems to have a pretty solid handle on that kinda stuff. Polite pass :D

Ah yes. NP the wolf of K street. Lol. The e.cat family trust is sitting in a 4.5% money market fund for the most part at the moment. As goes January goes the year then back into the major indexes if January is up. We'll see.

Hey maybe Jim Montgomery will be available...that's about as likely as MS7 being replaced....if you ask me. I should rephrase that...it IS likely that Monty will be fired unless the B's turn it around...while
it IS unlikely that MS7 is going anywhere. But like you, I'm down for that list.

Good call on Monty, HR. The embarrassing loss last night may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back, thanks in part to JvR in his first game back after being a healthy scratch the previous five games. Firing NHL coaches a lot easier than not extending contracts to UNH hockey head coaches. JvR has played in 13 games now, and with 23 more NHL games will surpass Rod Langway for UNH alums in total NHL/WHA games played.

From there’s no chance department call to Jim Montgomery? He’s paid out his contract from the Bruins so cash should not be an issue.

Montgomery is now an established NHL head coach, and this time it appears he even kept his sobriety.

He's never gonna want to be a D-1 coach, not at this age, and not with a list of successful NHL stops ...

How much do nhl assistants make? I would think it would be close to if not more than Souza and Monty probably doesn’t need the money anyway. I could see him going to a Denver type program that has plenty of resources but doubt he would go someplace that is completely skint like UNH.

Yup, my understanding is most NHL assistants are making $250,000-$500,000 annually, depending on length of service and other variables. Really not all that far removed from what most run-of-the-mill D-1 head coaches are making these days, and probably with a whole lot less in terms of job security/longevity. I wouldn't go making any assumptions on how comfortable Monty's financial picture is, though. He's had some hard falls, and some of those falls correlate with irresponsible behavior that impacts things like saving money, etc. He really never cashed in as a player, and probably only started to make financial headway when he was at Denver, which he parlayed into the Dallas HC job, but he wasn't in Dallas for long, crashed out, and spent 3 years in St. Louis after that remaking his reputation. I don't think he ever got beyond his initial 3 year deal with Boston, and my understanding is he was paid under $2.0MM annually. Not bad overall for most of us, but assuming his agent worked out a $500K-ish buyout today so Monty can seek new employment immediately, I'd guess Monty is one more decent contract (and continued sobriety) away from the "working for the fun of it" stage of his career. I think he's in his mid-50's. I honestly hope he ends up in Detroit, either him or Gerard Gallant, ASAP.

Wouldn't surprise me to see the Blues move on from Bannister and bring Monty back. He played there, was an assistant under Berube, and is apparently well liked by Armstrong.

Could very well be, tyler. I don't think Monty will find himself wanting for NHL opportunities, especially considering how the last B's fired head coach fared at his next job. He literally has pretty much won everywhere he's been, certainly as a head coach. Stanley Cup is all that's left, it will be interesting to see where he winds up next. I'm sure teams like St. Louis (and DRW for that matter) need him, more than he needs them.

Just to get out ahead of things for the coming weekend ...

@ UNH 1

If our Cats do not win against Maine AND NU, they are doomed to remain in the HEA basement leading into the New Year. Fortunately, the Cats will have some HEA games in hand to begin calendar 2025.

team, HEA games played, HEA points, HEA games remaining in calendar 2024

Mac, 6, 8, 3 (2BU, MU)
UMass, 8, 6, 3 (UVM, 2BU)
NU, 6, 6, 4 (2BC, UNH, Mac)
UNH, 5, 5, 2 (Maine, NU)

That was going to be my prediction!

It seems like the last 4 games the score was lopsided in each game with each team winning two apiece. UNH appears to have a veteran defense and they play well on their home ice. My guess is we are due for a tight game between these two teams. I’ll predict a 2-2 tie.

Should be a fun one tonight, always great when these two teams tangle. Game will be on NESN, so hopefully it is a great show for New England fans. I hope for not just a sellout but that all the fans attend so it is full attendance.

If UNH doesn't get at least a win and a tie out of these next two games, my prediction of a 4th place HEA finish (which admittedly is probably already on life support) probably flatlines to a DOA.

Wish I was this optimistic Sparkee - and I think really you're just trying to be polite ;)

Anyhoo - UM 6 UNH 2.
