UNH 2024/2025 Goldberg Edition

So you're saying RIT are the cupcakes, and UNH had better eat both cupcakes next weekend, Snives??

Yeah, I think so. As you said a few years ago, if you cannot beat the cupcakes, YOU are the cupcake. I forgot to note that RIT is 57th out of 64 in PWR, and I do not think PWR lies, even at this time in the season. Also revealing to me is how HEA basement dweller UNH is tied in PWR (with an even slightly lower RPI) with Atlantic Hockey leader Bentley.

As I remember from last season (without checking) we.got killed the first.night and won easily the second. 'Cats really need this weekend or like you say PWR abyss awaits.

Both one-goal games in Rochester last November, losing 4-3 first night and winning 5-4 the next night. But that was much better than our third period total collapse and 6-2 drubbing at the Albany regional in March 2010. I believe that RIT is the only AHA team that holds an advantage in wins over us, although Bentley is close.

Edit: Oops, we are 0-3-0 all time against Niagara, including 4-1 loss at Midwest regional in March 2000. Also, 2-2-0 all time against Army since 2017/18 season.

Wow guess I should have done my research about the scores..I do remember tuning in thinking we'd win easily and being fairly disgusted...

So anyway ... in summary, 'Ref hit the nail on the head, this is the kind of game winning teams find a way to win, and struggling teams find a way to lose. Before I forget, HR ... what is an FOTG, and who is/was Scott?!? Was this some kind of obscure "fan of the game" thingie???

AH-HAHAHA Chuck!! You're funny!! Forget me already? LOL!! :D

Just SO UNH ... "RIT may be the only AHA team with an edge over us" ... edit, oops, well then ... there is also Niagara, Army, and maybe Bentley is pretty close, too. As in ... "We're UNH - We Own You (we think so anyway)"

It's been almost a quarter century since the Niagara NCAA debacle, which launched a flotilla of really bad boner meds jokes aimed in our direction, resulting in the "1949" retaliations against Bandwagon Nation (or vice versa), and preceded by endless *asterisks and retroactive financial aid barbs at our friends to the North. Little did we know that 2001 would bring the end of BC's 52 year drought, as well as the untimely passing of the Downeast Dark Lord a few short months later.

As the saying goes, the old place hasn't been the same since ...

So, that's half the mystery solved then! Can you provide the rest of the FOTG details, Scott??

You are never forgotten, mon ami. However, as you may recall, once in awhile, we have another visitor who shares your first name ...

In fairness to our Cats in Rochester this time last season, RIT was 7-3-0 and on their way to a 27-11-2 record, after running away with the AHA regular season in first place by 10 points. Contrast that r3cord with this season in which the Tigers are 3-10-1, 57th PWR, and only out of last place in AHA by 2 points, which is unlikely to stand for long as Bobby Mo is trailing the Tigers by only 2 points with 4 (four!) games in hand.

Anything but a sweep by the Cats at the Whitt this coming weekend could be a lower point in program history than anytime since the mid-1980’s.

It was the Dunkin' Donuts Fan of the Game. A young lady from the Whitt staff came over to our seats and asked both me and my girlfriend if we would like to be honored. Not sure of the selection crtieria - perhaps we were a bit over-exuberant with the infamous Thunder Stix?? Anyhoo...my girlfriend politely declined but told me to go for it, so I did :D Received a couple of Dunks gift cards, my mug on the 'Tron, and lots of kudos from my "section mates" LOL.

And yes....the other Scott (Bobo) is missed these days......

UNH picks up two players from the QMJHL and one from the OHL. Two defense and one forward. Sam Oliver is the tenth leading scorer in the QMJHL.The two defensemen look like puck moving defensemen. Jack Sadowski has been pushed back to 2026.Injured in the preseason has never gotten on track.

Yessir. From C.Heisenberg: 11/25: DeAngelis (UNH/Sudbury-OHL); Oliver (UNH/Drummondville-QMJHL); Carr (UNH/Rouyn-Noranada-QMJHL)

Looks like somebody has been on the road in Canada. "A" for effort...

Yup, and a lot less travel time than chasing recruits in British Columbia, although would be nice if these eastern Canadian recruits could make me forget about the Lanny Gare’s and Hemingway bros in our past.

... or Jason Krog, Derek Bekar, Nathan Martz ... or even the mysterious Travis Banga for that matter.

I see Sadowski has apparently been pushed back another season. I say it's 50-50 he never arrives, at this rate ...

All true. And you can add Krog to that list...

All three are Major Junior prospects newly eligible for college hockey? If so, this is history for UNH recruiting irrespective of the ability level of the recruits. Interesting, and encouraging if true, to see UNH take advantage of the new recruiting rules. In reality, absent the long promised renovations of the hockey facility, the future for UNH looks shaky at best without more creative and efficient ways to bring in talent.

Plus two are captains and the other an assistant captain.

In his first season with USHL Cedar Rapids Rough Riders, Jack Sadowski has just one assist along with 10 pen mins and a -6 in 13 games. But he just turned 18 this past July so probably another year in juniors would be appropriate.

Maybe the MacPherson bros also would have benefitted more by playing another year in juniors rather than sitting on the pine with the Cats this season?
