UND @ MN: Jan 15-16: Overly Hostile vs Underachieving

Re: UND @ MN: Jan 15-16: Overly Hostile vs Underachieving

UND has a few players out with injuries, but I'm not calling every team we play a bunch of goons.
Why would you call your opponents a bunch of drunks with poor grammar? :D

As for injuries, yes they are a part of the game - thanks for pointing out the obvious. :p The issue being made here is that when a team loses more than one key guy for an extended period of time, the likelihood of that team struggling goes up considerably. This isn't the WCHA of 5-6 years ago where the top tier of teams had two dangerous lines and at least 3-4 solid defensemen to deal with the inevitable lineup shuffling. The depth of talent to overcome this problem simply doesn't exist anymore for the vast majority of teams.

I can see why, since your team is the goons, calling other teams a bunch of goons would be just plain wrong.

GOOOOOOOOOOONS!!!!!!!!!!

;)

Anyway, nice to see the Gophers finish off the win after what I thought was a disappointing tie that in the past would have been a 3 goal loss leading to another loss. It doesn't mean "they're back" but at least they're not done yet and have given themselves a chance to live another day.

Re: UND @ MN: Jan 15-16: Overly Hostile vs Underachieving

Can the Gophers do enough to earn a pairwise ranking without finishing in the top 3 of the WCHA? Because imho they probably have to play the play-in game at the Final Five which means winning the auto berth is a huge longshot. Either way, it was a fun weekend and I was proud of their play for most of both games.

btw - I really hope Chay is able to make it back for UND and **** it would have been nice to see Blood and Kristo in Maroon and Gold.

It was disappointing in hindsight, but if you told me a week ago that we'd have tied UND last night I think I would've been more happy than sad.

I love the hunger that they showed this weekend. Looks like I was right in saying that Cepis provided that spark that the Gophers needed. They looked more energetic, more in sync, etc. They are feeding off his energy.

Re: UND @ MN: Jan 15-16: Overly Hostile vs Underachieving

The sad part about Chay Genoway's concussion is that over time it may prove to be more severe than suspected. In my opinion, this is very serious and one of the reason's I am a strong advocate on the NCAA developing clear rulings on any hits to the head. Cumulative effects of concussions are poorly understood. Studies have had conflicting findings on whether athletes have longer recovery times after repeat concussions and whether cumulative effects such as impairment in cognition and memory occur.

Cumulative effects may include psychopathological disorders and loss of long-term memory. For example, the risk of developing clinical depression, Alzheimer's disease, memory deficits later in life is higher for concussed victims.

Well, Marvin did get an extreme punishment from the league. That one game taught him his lesson pretty well I would think. :(

Kind or ironic that the goon team loses their leader by getting gooned on. I don't wish a concussion on anyone, but it shows the mantra of what goes around comes around. Sioux are in for a dive this year, their goalie is broke and may not recover in time for the post season. At the end of last nights game he was froze there and his team had to come over and slowly guide him off the ice like a fragile piece of glass. The best was when he left the ice after period 2, skating for the door off and he slams his stick on the ice right in front of the ref like it was their fault. You suck buddy, it was you who played like crap. Where did that #4 ranking come from? It was absolutely made up.

You're funny! Who was the last player UND seriously injured with a goon hit?

Thanks man, I needed that humorous post. Hilarious!
If the Sioux are in for a dive this year, what does that make the Gophers? The Sioux are in front of them in both the WCHA and the all-important PWR rankings.
BTW, when was the last time a Sioux illegal hit took an opposing player out long-term? On the same token, opposing illegal hits have really taken a toll on UND with Genoway, LaPoint last year, Bina, etc.

One game suspension is not extreme.

Exactly. :(

For the record, our fanbase does not claim this clown. I apologize, guys.
