It took five and a half games before someone realized they should just throw the ball. Just whip it downfield. You will have a chance to win. Trust me, just try it.

Are you talking about the Vikings or their opponent? If the latter, remember that Winfield was hurt early, the Vikings went to a 'prevent' too early in the game and if the DL disrupted Flacco as often as they usually do a number of those long passes never happen.

I don't have a good feeling about this week...if Winfield doesn't play, Rothlisberger might put up Brady-like numbers on the Vikes' depleted secondary. And for some reason, Frazier and/or Chili seem to ignore the issues or refuse to correct them. If the team lacks the personnel to execute the schemes, maybe the schemes should be changed? Just a thought...

Strib had an article on Asher Allen today, and how he is getting close to getting on the field. All I could think the whole time was: "Is it possible to play worse than Paymah did?"

Probably not...but I heard a quote from Chili yesterday or the day before about how Allen isn't quite ready to go. Not a good sign considering what we saw from Paymah, but I suppose it's all based on practice performances, which don't necessarily translate to game day.

Still, if the problem is that Paymah can't single-cover the WR, then why don't they roll the safety over to help and leave Griffin on his own? Griffin has his own share of mental lapses, but he's definitely got more experience at CB.

Since the Vikes are so into bringing old prima donnas out of retirement and seem to be pretty good at it, maybe they should offer Deion Sanders a contract.;)

He could probably defend better than Paymah.

A strib commenter suggested Ronde Barber in TB...passed his prime, but his experience more than compensates for any step he may have lost. Of course, this week's trade deadline was yesterday, so wishful thinking at this point.

This game could get ugly, if the vikes don't put a lot of pressure on big ben. When I saw this game on the schedule I knew it was going to be tough for our defense because of Miller. Pass catching TE's can usually split the seams in cover 2 def's pretty well... Also has anyone heard about how sapp is doing I remember he was taken out last week with a potential concussion, but I didn't see if he came back.

he's not listed on the injury report...the question is, do you stick him at corner or keep him at nickel? He's done really well in the nickel position...

Vikings Access Blog said:
Vikings Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield is not practicing for a third consecutive day because of a sprained right foot and isn't expected to play Sunday against Pittsburgh at Heinz Field.

The Vikings will issue their injury report later today and my guess is that Winfield will be listed as doubtful but considering he was still wearing a walking boot on Thursday the odds of him playing would appear to be almost nill.

During the brief portion of practice the media was allowed to watch, the Vikings worked on their nickel defense with Karl Paymah at left corner and Benny Sapp playing in the slot, as he usually does. It will be interesting to see what the Vikings do on Sunday. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Vikings use Sapp at the left corner and then have him move inside and Paymah play the outside in passing situations.

well this could be a scary week with paymah covering either ward or holmes, my guess is he will be on ward..

You gotta like those four-point penalties.

Other than that, the Vikes need to figure out this Steeler defense.

Re: (un-) Official Minnesota Vikings 2009-2010 season thread

Two dropped INT's and the Steelers get a TD because of it.

Re: (un-) Official Minnesota Vikings 2009-2010 season thread

91 yards in a little over a minute? Sound familiar?

Re: (un-) Official Minnesota Vikings 2009-2010 season thread

The poor pass coverage would've been a non-factor if they managed to make the plays that are presented to them. The Steelers are going to make plays, the Vikings have to take advantage of the mistakes that the Steelers make if they expect to win this game. They didn't do that on the TD drive.

Benny Sapp you are an idiot.

This game has been entertaining if nothing else. Although I did think there would be more scoring than 13-10.
