UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Don't know if we missed this, but Scout Truman named to the AJHL South Division All-Rookie team.

Also, Neutral Zone put up an article today for the Mass Festival Final 40 Tournament. The premise was "With over 30 years of playing at the college, pro-level and coaching Bantams to NCAA to Pro, we decided to pick the team we would like to coach. We obviously would win but the group would be fun to coach and also fun to watch develop. Our team was picked only based on those two days."

The list included 3 forwards and 2 dmen for each of the '04s, 03s and 02s from the group of players that's hoping to go to the National Camp. Lowell commit Owen Fowler was listed in the '02 group.

Owen Fowler (F, L, Governor’s, 2002)-Owen is the most skilled player on this team. He is electric with the puck. Fast, elusive and can break down defenders in lots of ways. He is great on the rush. The Umass-Lowell commit will help Team NZ Mass in the transition game. His first step and speed are obvious. What isn’t as obvious is how hard he fights for pucks and how well he can maintain possession through contact. He also showed some real bite. Can really lay opponents out, especially in open ice. We loved it as a fast player with a physical element is tough to play against. He made team NZ on his snarl, compete, jam and physicallity. He was there to go to Buffalo. While he may very well get to National Camp, when he gets back we want him on Team NZ Mass.

There was another '02 who's uncommitted but from Billerica, named Matthew Livingston. Local kid, defenseman plays for Billerica High.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Andranik Armstrong (currently with Brooks, AJHL) was picked in the 8th round of the NAHL draft by Minot yesterday.

Northeast Generals took a shot on Ben Meehan in the 15th round. He's most likely going to be in the USHL next year though.

When Andranik committed NZ had him rated at 4 stars. Have they since dropped his rating?

I saw this tweet about Ben Meehan who was at the Cedar Rapids (USHL) camp.

This looks like another high quality recruit. I like what Coach Pagliero is doing.

NeutralZone rates him at 3.5 stars.
NeutralZone said:
A smart, two-way forward who competes for pucks in all 3 zones. We like his attention to detail defensively and his ability to find teammates in open spaces. A solid 200 foot game, he supports his defenders down low well and transitions to offense quickly. Not the most creative offensive player you will see but did produce a number of goals this season with a good net presence and willingness to go to the net.

Dauphinais committed back on May 3. Surprised no one noticed it for so long.

I noticed that too when I searched his name on twitter. I typically search for mentions of @riverhawkhockey when looking for news and I don't think any of those tweets from May 3rd tagged the school account.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for 2018 and on

Engum is listed as a 3.75* recruit by NZ. 6'2, 203 from Burnsville, MN.

He was given a B- ranking in the January 2018 Minnesota HS Holiday Tournament.
Brehdan was defending a lot on the weekend as his team was outmatched against their opponents. His strong skating and thick frame helped him to be physical and separate players from the puck. He then used his first couple steps to skate out of trouble and break the puck out. He was able to clear out traffic in front of the net and clear the crease for his goaltender to see shots.

And one more scouting report (2017).
Very valuable due to his size, strength and skating ability. He is a powerful skater who can go back and get pucks under pressure and break them out. He moves the puck up ice well with good reads. Defensively his strength and skating ability help him to defend top forwards very well.

A good breakdown of his first game in the USHL is available here.

Last year for the Waterloo Blackhawks, he posted a 3-12-15 in 46 games.
