Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Terrence Wallin had a goal and three assists in Gunnery's 10-2 win over Winchendon. Wallin now has 19 points (9-10-19) on the season.

Tyler Brickler had two assists for Westside in their 4-0 win last night. He was the game's third.

Julian Melchiori had no points in a 5-2 win for Newmarket.

Will Rayner was a -1 in a 4-1 Lincoln loss, with 4 PIM.

Derek Arnold had no points in a 3-1 Waterloo loss.

Josh Holmstrom and Chad Ruhwedel had no points in a 3-2 Sioux Falls loss.

Colton Saucerman didn't play in a 3-2 Des Moines shootout win.

Joe Pendanza had a 1-2-3 (second star) in the Jr. Bruins 5-2 win. TJ Massie didn't play.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

UML recruits results from yesterday.

  • Tyler Brickler had a goal in Westside's 7-3 win.
  • Julian Melchiori's Newmarket Hurricanes lost 3-2 in a shootout. Melchiori had 2 PIM.
  • Derek Arnold had a goal in Waterloo's 5-2 win.
  • Chad Ruhwedel had the lone assist in Sioux Falls tying goal, and they went on to win in OT 2-1. Josh Holmstrom had no points.
  • Brockville's record win streak finally came to a halt as they lost to Pembroke in a shootout 6-5. Shayne Thompson had 2 assists, and was one of three Braves to miss their shootout bid.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Wow. This kinda reminds me of Maine's recruit list two years ago, which has completely fallen apart (including Arnold who's coming to Lowell now).
According to the Heisenberg site, Maine just lost another recruit as Matt McNeely (G-USNDPT) is now heading to UMD.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

No idea about a pure sniper, but I'd doubt it ... as the snipers usually aren't available to us sadly. My guess is Thompson or Curry might have the opportunity to add up some points during their Lowell careers.
Monty, Why can't Lowell get a sniper?

I guess I'm just frustrated with the results of this past weekend and the lack of offense. This seems to be the same old problem over the past several seasons.

To be honest, there are very few snipers actually available yearly. Those few are picked at by the top level teams. Lowell then competes for the next level down players (and according to some, even another level down than that). You might steal a Falite from Maine (he wanted to stay local) but in general the high-end snipers don't even know where Lowell is.

Maybe sniper was the wrong word. Looking at some of the other teams in HE they seem to be able find players with good offensive skills. I realize Lowell can't compete with BC, BU and UNH on the recruiting front but they should be able to compete with the rest of the teams in HE.

Terrence Wallin had a goal in Gunnery's 4-1 win over Trinity-Pawling today.
Gunnery is now 13-3-1 on the season, their next game is Wednesday. Wallin is fourth on the team in scoring with 20 points (10-10-20).

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

The EJHL Southern Division All-Stars scored fourteen seconds into overtime to beat the Northern Division on Monday. Based on game summary, it looks like Joe Pendenza had a goal and an assist in the game. His late goal sent the game into overtime. I couldn't find a boxscore of the game.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Terrence Wallin (10-13-23) had 3 assists in yesterday's 7-3 win over Millbrook.

Stats for UML recruits through last night.

Please note, Scott Wilson is committed for either 2011 or 2012. I'm listing him below as 2011. Also note, Doug Carr and Nick Curry are both injured and not playing for their respective teams currently.

Players in bold were named (if not played in for various reasons) league All-Stars.

*Pendanza's 9 PPG are tied for the lead in the EJHL. His current point total puts him in a tie for 18th.
*Thompson's 65 points have currently 9th in CJHL scoring, even though he missed a few games due to a knee injury.
*Melchiori's 23 points have him tied for 15th amongst all defensemen in the CCHL. He missed four games playing for Team Canada East in the World Junior A Challenge. He's been quiet offensively recently, with 3 assists in his last 12 games.
*C. Eiserman is currently 8th in the EJHL in GAA and 11th in save %.
*TJ Massie has moved up to fourth in the EJHL in GAA and is still fifth in save %.
*Brickler was traded to the Westside Warriors on November 18th. While with Sioux City, his numbers were 0-3-3 in just 5 games played.
*Wallin's Gunnery team is 14-3-1, but I'm not sure how many games Wallin has played as he might have been out due to injury for a couple of games.
*Boulanger is 10th in the AJHL in GAA.
*Rayner was placed on the 45 day IR in mid-October and missed almost two full months.
*Curry is 7th in the NAHL in scoring, but hasn't played in a bit due to a concussion.
*Carr is third in the CJHL in GAA with a 2.46, and is second in save percentage. Also, I've noted his 1 OT loss and his 2 Shootout losses as ties. He has currently missed a few weeks and is expected to miss at least three more due to a groin injury.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

From the Oakville Beaver:
(Jan 14, 2010) - Wilson lands Div. 1 hockey scholarship.
White Oaks student Scott Wilson has accepted a Division 1 hockey scholarship to UMass-Lowell for the 2011 season.
Wilson, 17, is currently in his rookie season with the Ontario Junior A Hockey League’s Georgetown Raiders. He ranks third on the team in scoring with 13 goals and 32 assists in 38 games.

“I talked to several Division 1 schools but really liked the coaching staff and hockey program at UMass- Lowell,” said Wilson. “Also, Lowell has a small-town feel to it.”

Lowell is located approximately 25 miles north of Boston.

Wilson came up through the Minor Oaks Hockey Association and was part of the Oakville midget AAA Rangers squad that won silver at the Ontario Hockey Federation championships last season.

“My time with the midget team last year provided me with great experience, which allowed me to take the next step forward,” said Wilson, who plans to play for the Raiders again next season.

do any of these junior teams have any real legacies... I know they have them for short windows of time so turnover is high... are certain teams better than others for producing players?

edit: i mean, obviously some must be better than others, but are there like legendary junior programs or prestige programs?

the green bay gamblers of the USHL turn out good-to-great college players all the time.

off the top of my head: ty conklin, justin braun, jeremy dehner, mike sislo, eric gryba and i think brian roloff.

also from the WCHA adam burish, blake wheeler and matt greene played there for sure.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

three years. i know you're going to look it up.

From the way you asked the question, it seemed like we were going back to the 90s. I was going to say Godoy, but I doubt that was right. If it was three years, then I'd say Pat nailed it with Bergeron.
